Welcome to Better Science Teaching! This is a place for educators, students, and parents to improve science education. Science Fair Friday is a series about how to create a unique, prize-winning science fair project and is uploaded each Friday. Other content is directed at reviewing products of interest to teachers, including all fields of science, science fair, science olympiad, and teaching in general.
@BetterScienceTeaching and anyone else viewing this post, did you ever experience mistreatment from colleagues who didn't have a PhD? I have experienced what can only be described as bullying from teachers placed in a position of power. Any advice?
Yes, I’m sure that has happened. I will not air the details, but in each situation, it is important to document what you can and then reach out to people who also have a position of power. In my cases, I had the Union President involved; I also was plagiarized by a colleague and that involved the editor of the journal and the society President. In one case, I let it go under the advisement of my supervisor, and ultimately that was the best route, even in hindsight. But that was difficult at the time.
I am still a bit confused on what the research plan section entails. Should I put a summary of my methods in the research plan and also a brief synopsis of how I will be conducting my experiments?
I recommend you follow the guidelines in the current ISEF rules and guidelines. And be thorough, not just a summary. This is the document your fair SRC will use to determine if you followed ethical standards.
@@BetterScienceTeaching Thanks for your response! I'm particularly confused about the procedure section of the research plan. In your experience, what is typically written in the procedure section? I read the description, but I'm not sure exactly what they mean. is it procedures for the user study or how I designed (or methods for) my device (the device is my research)?
@@zappist751 Both. Describe all your procedures (in enough detail that another person could do it themselves) and describe your device. Diagrams are good too! Are you doing an engineering project, or scientific method?
Great review. I purchased my first TB, a Brain Bag, in 2002. That bag long ago left my collection… a fact I remedied this afternoon. I don’t know how often I’ll use it, but I’m excited to have one back in the fold.
I has the first one and I kept getting feedback. But it dropped so much and the plug in wire for deteriorated. But I have been thinking about a wireless and see if it’s worth the extra money.
I have a bunch of Lands End bags in various sizes and have stuffed them with books, etc. They've never failed. When one of my bags got dirty a year after I got it - literally minor scuffs, I was told I could return it and get a replacement for free as they have a lifetime warranty. Lands End does offer a zip top version and customization. I love the inside pockets. Never had an issue with mine other than my smaller one with a black print fading when I washed it. I've used them for work, play - even MOVING! Keep an eye out for the Land's End sales. I got all of mine on the cheap - literally half price or less on special sales.
Thank you for your video. I am a Ph.D student (2nd Year) and i teach at a private school for children with behavioral and emotional disabilities. I am currently attempting to get my NY state licensure as well as complete my Ph.D. This is encouraging that other people have taken the path that I am choosing. God Bless.
Hi. I'd used Shidu in my class for 2 years. For the 1st year, it was amazing dan shidu really help me in class. But when 2nd year of using it, the function was dropped. I'd chareged the speaker and it appear 100% fully charged. When i using it during my class, less than 1 hour, the battery drop to 40%. So that i have ti recharge for another class. Anybody know is there any solution to repair it?
Not yet madam. I bought it from shopee. Perhaps i could buy another one of this model. Shidu is the only one clear and not have distraction even though i was outside my class.
Very good and very helpful review. I like the 3rd one better only because of the sound output givss a more reaiistic voice representation. I also understand why you prefer the 2nd one. Thanks for the time, effort and expense you put forth.
Lol. Thanks! I use this regularly and it’s one of the items that “lives in” my work bag - I switched schools and don’t have my own room this year. I still love it!
Maybe start here and add things as you can! Science Fair Emergency! What to do if science fair is TOMORROW? | One Day Science Fair ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yMRa1oSsiSI.html
Thank you. This video was the most helpful video regarding voice Amplifiers. Is there any way you could do a walk through on how to play/record/audio and switch between these devices? That would be super awesome and helpful. Take care.
Ooh. That’s cool! I looked at a wireless system too, but that could have been tricky due to expense and the possibility that I’d pick up signals from other teachers nearby.
How wide is that laptop? I want to get the medium zip top land's end bag, but my laptop is 11 inches wide, which looks smaller than what you have. Would I be able to fully fit my laptop in the medium bag?
I think this laptop is 15”. The specs on the Medium LLBean boat and tote are that it’s 13” wide- so your 11” laptop should fit with no problem. I could get my 15” in if I carried only minimum stuff, so I usually just put it in so it was taller than the bag and that worked ok. You should be fine with the medium bag.
