Excellent step-by-step information on how our ancestors used to make this essential little item for the making of their clothes. Thank you so much for showing the process. Very enlightening. Cheers
Maybe l would understand better the process of second pin needle, if l'd see properly on close. So is there a small hook in main needle body, which you wrap around the circle? But why would you file it, doesn't it make it weaker?
Very insightful video. I am recently curious about how sewing needles is made in pre industrial era. I tried making stainless steel needles, which the punching didn't work quite well. I ends up bending the flat part into an arc and use a triangular file to thin down both sides the area that is meant to be punched through to make the needle eye. The results of filing makes punching more precise and less like to skip and easier to punch through. I initially started with 0.9mm which is the size for embroidery needles, and then tried making 0.55mm needles with the method. The filing resulted in depression around the eye that resemble a modern needle. Here is my latest work making really thin needle. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1R2CwTZZqTU.htmlsi=0_TOiv8DiMMPfZTc
