Tacomas major problem is the body mount behind the front wheels by the side view mirror. Toyota did not want to TSB the body mount because it will cost them alot since its ALL OF THE Tacomas have this issue. You can get Energy Suspension $38 and replace the OEM with better/stronger/Rubber material and replace them every 50-60k miles. Also, if you live in CA theres a shop called Beast Fab and I recently took it there for a Tier1 and they retorque, regrease all your suspension parts (UCA, LCA, etc) for $100 bucks. I think all Tacoma owners should complain to Toyota about this problem and issue a recall.
They eventually got easier but I just liked the board to free up my hands. The spreader bars had me puzzled first time for I don't recall the instructions saying to take them apart and turn it 180 degrees.
They replaced a body mount that was bad and that fixed the issue. I haven't noticed/heard the issue since. Once they pulled the old mount out it was clear it was bad. (not drive train related which i was surprised, scared me for sounded like a front axle)
Just returned from camping trip where I used this cot for fist time. It almost killed me but, I did get it set up correctly. I thought I had done it wrong because it was so hard to set up. Was nice to sleep on. Hard to disassemble. I’ll be shopping for a cot that’s not so hard to set up and take down.
Thanks for the vid; helped A LOT! But - I can't get the other ends of the two long poles into the sleeves. What's the trick to that one? By the way I got the hooks to close by standing on the thing.
I figured out how to get the poles in. You have to start threating them in from the correct end; only one end is the correct end. It has a special opening for that process.
Don’t push directly on the metal bar - put your weight on the black plastic piece slowly (use the heel of one foot) and wala... it will transfer the pressure and click into place like a lego block. I weigh about 110-120 lbs just in case anyone needed that for reference. 😎💃🏽
Yes! Which is very nice so you can jump from one area to another. I have since switched to using my InReach device and downloaded satelite imagery onto my phone for where I hunt. I still have the huntview as a backup if i go to plan D or E.
Did you make sure the poles are sliding all the way together when putting them together? 30secon to 45 second part of the vid. Before putting the side poles in lay them out to see if they actually are longer. I am thinking or hoping that one of the poles just isnt going all the way inside of the other pole.
Huntview SD is just plug and play into the GPS receiver. Tech has kind of exploded with phone apps now and may want to look into that too. I currently use an inReach paired to my phone and have sat imagery that way. It does NOT cover an entire state though.
It is a micro SD card so from my knowledge there is no time limit on it. I have since tried the onx subscription for my tablet and it is rather nice. Sierra Trading Post has some states on sale for 75.00. I am just not sure if those onx micro sd cards provide satellite imagery. Right now since I tend to hunt the same area so I have downloaded satellite imagery for use on my inReach device and will resort to my phone to view it. I still carry an old garmin 60csx and leave it on 90% of the time for i like to know how far i travel.
If I recall I don’t believe you can see the topo lines. I will need to double check and see later this week. I have since switched to carrying my old 60CSX (great battery life) along with an inReach device paired to my smartphone for satellite imagery. IF I need to bail to a different unit though my 60st with the huntview chip will get used for I don’t have everything loaded on my smartphone for satellite imagery.
I just picked up a used 60csx. Do you know if the huntview plus maps work on this device? The Garmin website doesn’t list it as a compatible model. Curious if it will work anyway.
Thank you for your video. We couldn’t figure it otherwise. We did discover that you don’t need the piece of wood if you open up the black tab-it gives you more area to press and then the wood becomes unnecessary. Thanks for doing this video!
NP. I agree you don't need the piece of wood either I just found it easier the first time, I was afraid of pinching my fingers and or something breaking. Glad it helped!
Sorry never replied to this. You able to get the spreader bars to ever pop in? Hope so, i have used the cot numerous times now and love it for the tent I have.
It was a pita. Then trying to release the pressure so you can unhook it is another feat. Overall I am still happy for the cost of the. In a bigger tent a higher cot would be nicer. (Wall tent)
Don’t push directly on the metal bar - put your weight on the black plastic piece slowly (shut the plastic piece first then use the heel of one foot) and wala... it will transfer the pressure and click into place like a lego block. I weigh about the same as you. 😎
Thank you. This was hard to assemble but I lay on an assembled one in the store and I could disassemble it easily so once used a bit it pops in and out easy. So I'm using it a lot before taking a trip with it.
I’m getting that clunk sound too on my 17 Tacoma trd off-road. I’ve had it for 4 months now and took it into Toyota to see what it was but they can’t figure it out. I get the sound when I’m going up hills and reach a stop, some turns. And some bumps. Sometimes I can’t tell if it’s in the front or back but pretty sure it’s in the front. Some videos say it’s the front break pads, another said it was the “ lose cam bolts”
I haven't heard lose cam bolts before. When I think of Cam I think internal unless they are meaning something else. I don't drive truck mush if at all and need to get it in and see if they can try and find it again. I am leaning towards a bad body mount. To me it sounds like a front axle clicking. I'm able to duplicate it locally if I drop off a curb at an angle or if I pull into a steep driverway at some speed. My issue I don't feel it is the front brake pads for I think it would do it all the time not when it 'flexes'. Get it documented when you take it in is all I can suggest for now.
Bob Xziang I checked back with my local mechanic and he had me checking the u-Joints to make sure they were tight. The drive shaft carrier, and the transmission mount. All of these can make those sounds if loose
Any progress on it so far? Also if you lift up the hood and have someone hit the brakes to make the noise does it sound like it’s coming from behind the drivers headlight? Cause that’s where mine sounds like it’s coming from.
I haven't driven the truck in a couple months.. Sorry and I haven't gotten it back into the dealership. I'm able to re-create it if I drop off a curb at an angle so they should also be able to recreate it though. (positive thing) Once weather gets better here I'm going to take it back in. (I'll have to remember to add an update) Sorry for no progress
No i have haven't . I don't drive the truck that much but have been able to duplicate it by dropping off a curb. Once weather gets nicer it is going back to dealer to document it. (Again)
Very helpful. Thank you. My 12 year old son doesn't have enough weight to use a board to push down with so he stands on the pressure point and with a little bounce everything locks in. He needs help to undo the legs.
Good to hear, I just used the 2X6 to make it easier on me plus didn't want to get 'pinched' either. After I've used these a couple times it isn't always needed.
I did the same but balanced myself on both sides with something because the spreader bars would buckle under me. But was able to get it locked in place.
NP grainy video but it works. I originally was like WTF when I purchased it and instructions weren't clear. I enjoyed the cot for the tent I use it in.
Were you able to find the problem on this? My 17' is doing the exact same thing. Took it to the dealer, who adjusted the break pads, fixed the rear leaf springs and examined all the bushings and...........it's still doing it. The dealer doesn't seem to know what it could be.
No I have not. This isn't my primary vehicle so don't drive it that much. However last month I was able to find a median to drive onto and then drove off the 'curb' in an attempt to recreate it and it did the same clicking sound. Once I take the truck in for the 1yr service (oil change) I'll be bringing it up to them again. There are numerous posts on TW about this sound and it seems to point to body mounts. I am just glad it isn't a front axle for right now.
With careful driving I don't think you would have a problem. If you take a look at video 'Elliot J Parking' someone actually drove a Honda element up to it. They parked outside of the one lane road into the TrailHead which isn't that far away. The road was mostly rocky so wasn't bad even if it rained. However the 'main road' as soon as you enter the forest service area was clay so if it rains that first 1/2 mile once into the forest area can be slimy. (no ruts here)
A friend loaned me his cot for my Bison hunt this year.. After 20 minutes of fiddling around I gave up and found your vid. Now I can set it up half cut and in the dark. Cheers!
Thanks, I had searched for instructions too which aren't/weren't out there. After you realize the 'spreader' bars are like tent poles that was half the battle.
I bought one of these but with a different name brand on it, exactly the same cot. Very comfy once put together but not sure how long those legs will last putting lots of pressure on them to get to them to lock. It is very sturdy and easily supports me at 6ft tall - 225lbs , i think the length is 75 inches so my feet have plenty of room and no overhang... it sits like 6 inches off the ground so you can sit on it kinda like a bench seat which is nice....This cot combined with a sleep pad is the closest thing to sleeping in a regular bed. Well worth $40
Thanks for putting this up, I got mine in the bargain cave and had no instructions. I could not figure out the legs came apart and then rotated until I saw your video.
Instructions were horrible along with the diagram. I've used this less than a dozen times and I'm still happy with the purchase. Works well and the price was very nice.
yes, thank you so much. some reviews of the cot complained about how hard it was to set up, others claimed it was "intuitive". not being a camper, there was nothing intuitive about setting up the legs - but you showed me, so now it's obvious. one thing, both you and the instructions said to start with the middle leg. i tried and tried your lean on the board trick, but that just hurt. i found it much easier when i started at one end and worked through to the other. straight down heel of the hand pressure was enough to get all the legs snapped in. i'll be sleeping on it tonight, feels quite solid and comfortable.... reviews said the canvas tends to stretch with use and gets easier to set up - that would be nice.
I tried using my hands the first time too and it just hurt to much for me. After using it I think you'll like it this is the first cot I've used before and for car camping I'll always use it. Sitting on a semi elevated platform in the morning and getting dressed is nice. Instructions that were included with it were just crap I thought.
The huntview is a microSD card that you plug into your GPS. I am not sure if you are able to load the info from the huntview map SD card to a larger SD card. Even if you could I'm not 100% sure if the GPS has a SD card limit. I know I ran into issues with loading birdseye onto an SD card and I couldn't use a very large (memory) micro SD card. Unsure if that answers your question.
Sorry for not responding to this earlier but with CO I haven't worried about BLM and boundaries where I hunt. I'll see if it does provide private land boundaries but I think it probably just lists the national forest and even in the national forests some areas are private.
The birdseye view subscription from Garmin is more precise and clear. on my gps I'll double check but I do believe it has topo lines. birdseye is great but requires a subscription. Trick is to download enough birdseye imagery onto multiple micro SD cards for the area you plan to go.
Thank you for the review. If I understand clearly.... the BirdView does NOT have topo. So to get topo and satellite imagery I'm leaning towards the Huntview.
