I actually never noticed the reload mechanic in Returnal till it was pointed out in this video...... it was one of the reasons outside of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Kena that made me want to get a PS5 (of course now they're on pc lol) I kinda want them to do a spinoff for Returnal that's more like a metroidvania, excellent review :)
I get what you saying…but I don’t agree. The missions are unique and fresh enough. I would argue the reason people love this game doesn’t have much to do with the main missions. Story, yes, but it’s the world. All the crazy things that happen. The idea that I don’t want to fast travel. I want to see it all. That’s why it’s special. Gun play definitely fun and diverse to stay fun. Especially without auto aim. Which is how I played.
I showed the ending of this game to my non gamer friend and she wept like a baby. I explained the back story and showed her from where the boy and Trico fly off from the tower. She was a mess after the ending credits cut screen.
Iv played it 4 times since it was released 😢 still the best video game of all time. I feel like calling it a video game doesn’t even do it justice. It’s truly a work of art 😢
4:46 DS2 has plenty of good points, but its interconnectivity is not one of them. There's a fucking lava castle on top of a windmill. I do like DS2, but it's by far my least favourite Fromsoft game. I think most of that comes down to the majority of the animations and soundtrack, which feel extremely cheaply put together. Some of the enemies genuinely move as if they're starring in a Dark Souls clone, not in an actual Dark Souls game. The sounds dog makes and how loudly they play in your ear for no reason is comically bad. It's immersion breaking. Other than that the enemy spam is ridiculous and with bonfires being miles away from boss arenas this can get very frustrating. They took away player's i-frames during the fog gate transition, which is another slap in the face. So yeah it's definitely the weakest and especially scholar is far too focused on making it a hardcore game that's gonna kill you loads. "See how many enemies we put here? This game is hard! Dark Souls players love dying so we made it super duper hard!". In the end the game is not actually much harder, but far more tedious because the only way to succeed in DS2 is to crawl through the level making sure you don't accidentally trigger 3 groups of enemies from the other side of the map.
Idk what you count as areas but you can return to the cave from the beginning and catch a houndour which will evolve at level 24 and be pretty good for what you're dealing with.
thats a great idea. i remember that cave. yes, any area that has its on text pretty much counts. even different provinces. each of those count for 1 pokemon from those areas.
You can heal your team with the picnic mechanic. You need to make a sandwich. I think you just select picnic from the menu and talk to the picnic basket. Once there you can freestyle a sandwich and no matter what it will heal. You can also gain a little bit more experience on your Pokemon by cleaning them. Edited for addition info.
Funny that not one single review,, including this one makes any mention of how overly complicated the controls are. It’s like pull LT press X, put your thumb up your butt just to talk. Game killer for me
Oh yeah most definitely. The standard settings has “snap” aiming. When you aim down, it will stick to the enemy. This only doesn’t take affect when aiming with a scope or the when you do the duels.
lol not sure if this is sarcastic or not, but if it took a video game that long to be good…it’s not good lol. WHICH, is not how I feel about this game👀
Beat every soulslike except for this game and bloodbourne. Tried the game this week, just beat the Lost Sinner, and I’ve got to say… This game is exhausting to play lmao.
You haven’t beat bloodborne?! GET ON IT. DS2 is so divisive it’s insane!!! Some people have commented it’s their fave, while some have some sided with you lol.
I’m late but, IMO, the game really does not make a good first impression with the lost sinner branch of levels, it gets better in terms of the bosses, levels, and npcs. Not to mention you’re probably leveling adp at the start and your build will come together the farther you get. So, basically, stick with it and you might find something to like.
About bosses; The good bosses in DS1 are: Bell Gargoyles, Quelaag, Priscilla, Sif, Ornstein and Smough and Nito. (Gwyn and the Four Kings are maybe) The good bosses in DS2 are: Pursuer, Executioners Chariot, Ruin Sentinels, Looking Glass Knight, Smelter Demon, Velstadt, Darklurker. As DLC Bosses: DS1: Artorias, Manus, Kalameet DS2: Ivory King, Fume Knight, Sir Alonne There's actually not much difference between DS1 and DS2 in terms of the number of "good" bosses. However, if DS1 has 26 bosses, that means half of the bosses in this game are good. However, if there are 41 bosses in DS2, that means half of the bosses in this game are bad. Unfortunately, DS2 put Quantity over Quality throughout most of the game. Despite all its negative aspects, I think DS2 is a much better game than DS1. Until the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC came out, DS2 was on par with Elden Ring in terms of diversity/build structures and such. I think people should give this game a try.
I’ll say this to you…and I’m on this side as well, that I believe Dark Souls 1 was better. Or, I guess I should say without a doubt, my favorite. Without going into specifics, it just has to do with it being the first in the series that I played. With this being the case, I am definitely biased and not as harsh against the first game. There are some bad parts in that game and bosses (tree of chaos and Izalith anyone?!). Also, while I did praise in my review the interconnectivity of the world, I do strongly feel that Dark Souls 1 world and map is much stronger. In the sense that the scale and areas feel and look connected. While in dark souls 2, it feels that you are just going through levels.
@@dualshooter2461 DS1 is a masterpiece when it comes to world design. A huge interconnected map is truly a wonderful thing. But to be honest, wandering around that map until the second half of the game seems like a chore to me. I don't like walking much. The second half of the game, you will admit, is bad. It's so bad it's unplayable without DLC. That's why DS1 has always felt like a game that missed its potential as a masterpiece. The world of DS2 isn't that connected. But I never really thought of it as a problem. Other than some level transitions (places like the road to Castle Drangleic, the elevator from Earthen Peak to the Iron Fortress) I have mixed feelings about DS2's areas. Personally, I found the early game areas to be quite fun, but the mid game and mid game areas were really bad. But the late game was really good. He embellished it thoroughly with DLC. So even though it felt like I was just passing chapters, it gave me a good path forward. I like the Atmosphere more than the areas in DS2. I must also add that the quality of life of this game is higher than its other siblings. I see DS2 as a game that could have been a masterpiece like DS1, but could not use this potential. However, based on my overall gaming experience (not just souls) I think DS2 is better than DS1, this is just my opinion. DS1 was my first game and I played it over and over again. However, after a point, DS1 starts to become unplayable again. I have played and finished DS2 many more times than DS1. The replayability of DS2 is great, it keeps the game from getting stale. The reasons can go on and on, but I hope you understand me.
@@DrakeKeeperMFT that is interesting. I think I understand for the most part. You know, lately, I’ve been trying to not replay games as much as I used in order to preserve the magic. Does that make sense? Like at least give myself a couple years so that it always feels somewhat fresh. I hate when games start to become boring, because I’ve played them so much.
@@dualshooter2461 I totally agree with you, my friend. Sometimes we just need to let games be as good as we remember them. Especially in Souls games. I'm currently finishing Shadow of the Erdtree for the 4th time. I'm trying to stay away from souls games for a while until I feel hungry again. Btw, if you want to go back to DS2, I highly recommend LightningEngine and Balanced DS3 Combat Mods.
@@DrakeKeeperMFT Hard agree on DS1 becoming borderline unplayable without DLC. DS1s first half (until Anor Londo and maybe including Duke's Archives) is on track for being the best game of all time and then it completely falls apart in the second half. Dark Souls 2 may miss the mark sometimes, but none of the DS2 areas pissed me off nearly as much as Lost Izalith and Tomb of the Giants. In the end what hurt the development for both these games were time constraints.
@@dualshooter2461 i played dark souls remastered on pc earlier this year and I never had a problem with it. It's d2sotfs and d3 that are the problem d2(sotfs) has connection issues and fps problems and d3 also has fps problems on pc. It's really bad.
DS2 is my personal favorite of the series, especially the SotFS version. Easily Platinum'd it 4 times over just as many consoles. One big quirk of DS2, unlike the other games, is that the rolling I-Frames are very very front-loaded. The roll is broken into two parts: the initial lunge and the recovery. You have ZERO I-Frames during the recovery phase of the roll (the most common time a player is hit). This can cause DS2 to be unfairly associated with "bad" hitboxes when players are actually being hit when their I-Frames have already run out. There are actually only a small handful of attacks in DS2 that could actually be considered bad, and even those can be found in the other games. I've personally had more hitbox issues with DS3 than I have ever had with DS2. Rant aside, I think that outside of Spells, DS2 has the best Spellcaster supporting mechanics/items in the series.
Love this. I’m glad you went into details of its defense instead of just “it’s better”. I respect that. I do agree in that people are unfair against this game. Too harsh, criticisms that really come from an overall view of the game, and perhaps not their experiences.
I've played through DS2 three times. Twice through Scholar and once on DS2 Vanilla. Its my most played Souls game right behind Elden Ring. The original version of the game is a _significantly_ better experience.
This discourse is so interesting to me. There are sides that say the original is best, and others that will argue scholars is without a doubt better. Next on my list is watching a vid on the differences as I was recommended. So curious
@dualshooter2461 This video does a pretty good job at showing the changes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4YciRWtA5sY.htmlfeature=shared Also, I just wanted to say I watched a few more of your vids and really like your work, I'll be sticking around for sure. 👍
I’m on my fifth run, 560+ hours atm. I seldom use dead eye, once I aim and it snapped to the target, aim a lil bit higher before you pull the trigger for a headshot.
Awesome review :) I really liked it I have a "spicy" take :P I really like ADP, you have a choice here, that you dont have in the other games, and I like being able to play in different ways.
That is a hot take LOL. It’s such an interesting choice by From. Just because it was not like that in Dark Souls 1. I think my biggest issue with it is, unless I heard about it, I don’t know if I would have been able to figure that out on my own. Yet, it is true that souls games are in a sense like that already with lore, and ambiguous quest lines. Just not sure if I would have liked having a harder time dodging and not knowing why lol.
I agree that it should be easier to understand or just told straight out. But when you have so many builds as you do in ds2, the option to wait with s and focus on something else is really cool. And with this you can get more s than in the other games 🤩
I will do that! Glad you said that, because everyone keeps trying to tell me the opposite lol. I obviously didn’t speak on the differences too much as I don’t know enough to do so. I will check out a vid on that tho! Curious now….
If anybody is interested in playing a version of DS2 that isn’t annoying and unnecessarily difficult, play to og DS2 and NOT DS2: Scholar of the First Sin Edition
@@dualshooter2461Personally, I think the opposite. Scholar reduces the gank in many areas, and it is very noticeable in the late game. They did add some more enemies in areas toward the start, but they go down faster because they’re early enemies. And usually, the tank can be heavily influenced by your playstyle and observations. For instance, you can get tanked by the first fog wall in Forest of Fallen Giants if you wake up all the sleeping hollows by running around there. The only area I really consider harder in Scholar is Heide’s because they added a dragon and the white knights that wake up after Dragonrider. I feel like this is a non-issue for me though because I never rushed to do that side boss immediately anyway. DLCs are identical between each. Vanilla also didn’t despawn enemies after 12 kills, so runbacks wouldn’t eventually get easier like in a Scholar if a boss gave you a really bad time.
I just finished my no tonics, free aim, no big payout in the epilogue run and it seems like this was how it was meant to be played. Everything matters now.
There are so many playstyles ad so many challenges you can do in ds2 and this makes it really good for me. I can't rank these games but I can say they are all really good games. I just wish bosses were a bit faster or had more moves or both
Yeah, that is something I noticed too. Bosses were a bit slow for sure, and they just went down too quick in my experience too. I was killing most bosses on my first try which is not very common for me in these games lol.
I really appreciate that! Sometimes I’m not sure I’m improving in my editing, but comments like these let me know I am! Thank you. I LOVED SHADOW OF ERDTREE. I beat it so quick, and didn’t stop playing till it was over lol. I didn’t hate the final boss like many did. Thought it was so good from start to end.
OH MY GOSH. BRIGHTSTONE COVE. that area has so many spiders lol. On the ceilings, everywhere, and you will get attacked by no joke, 10+ huge spiders at a time.
@@dualshooter2461 I play with a mod that revamps lighting in the game (there's two, forgot which one exactly), among other things it makes some interior areas pretty dark and that forces you to use torch and sconces. Can't help but notice how bleak and washed out original game looks in comparison. Those long limbed abominations in Wharves are afraid of torches too btw (but will retaliate if you corner them)
@@CRL_One I forgot to bring that up. So many areas are dark or like you said bleak. A little more variety would have been nice. Still, the more open outdoor areas are quite gorgeous, and of course Majula is godlike. I hated those long limbed dudes lol.
I think people are wrong about DaS2 but even if you think it's the worst soulsborne game it's still a masterpiece among masterpieces and it's absurd that people skip it "yeah I skipped The Two Towers because I heard the other two LotR movies were better" my brother in christ stop listening to nerds on the internet
Idk man. I’ve played every single SB game but I’ve started up DS2 like 4 separate times and have put it down after a few hours each time. It just fails to hold me each time, and feels overall cheaply made compared to the others.
@@Medicalguy you know, i was the same. I played it years ago for a couple hours and got distracted by other games. I can’t argue with you on the respect of feeling lower quality. It does at times feel janky. Still, I felt that what it provided in exploration and its world building was still godlike. What’s your fave soulsborne?
Dark Souls 2 has one of the best unique features, my only problem for it is the terrible animations and the veeeeeery long stunlock animation, the ganks would be less infuriating if not for these.
Need to get that audio up! Definitely still my biggest struggle even in newer videos…big aspect to improve for sure. I appreciate you looking out. That’s next for sure on my list.
I need to play Dark Souls 2, I've played the rest but I really didn't enjoy the first 2 hours I had with the game but I want to try it again. I've heard it's super frustrating tho.
Oliver! My man. It was pretty frustrating at times, not gonna lie. Some sections had me RAGING. Still, exploring and getting through challenging bosses was still euphoric enough to call it a good game.
The only answer I have, for your question is …. shame on you for waiting this long!!! Just messing but your in for a real treat, Rockstar really atm makes two games Red Dead and Gta. So both games gunna hit all of us in the face at the level of detail. Enjoy this masterpiece cause few games are this godly. 🥃
I just finished this on the PC and had a lot of fun. It's also absolutely gorgeous looking with raytracing and all those particle effects on a HDR monitor. Although mouse and keyboard definitely makes this game a hell of a lot easier than I assume it was on PS5. My first death during my very first run happened in Phase III of the White Shadow bossfight at the end of the third biom where I just didn't have enough firepower. My only point of criticism is probably that the "secret ending" was a bit of a letdown. Overall I'd rank this at 8,5/10.
The auto aim on controller was quite heavy lol. So wasn’t too bad aiming wise. That is wild you made it that far on your first death?! Glad you enjoyed the game 🔥🔥🔥
@@dualshooter2461 I own a DualSense controller but due to all the reports about the high degree of difficulty I decided to go for mouse and keyboard on my first playthrough and I think that was the right choice. When I feel the urge to replay it I'm going to test the controller. Also I think the game spawns easier enemies on your very first playthrough. Afterwards I died half a dozen times before even reaching the first boss because the game started spawning those bats that explode as they rush you. Took me a couple of hours to get used to that difficulty spike.
Hey! Sorry we just missed you! We beat the Krawl titan and the grass gym! Couldn’t get to the normal type gym tho….we will be on tomorrow though!!! Thanks for being on and for getting us some nicknames 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Very nice job on the video. I'm one of those people that like not being informed about the game play. You did a great job of pointing out the games many attributes without giving any secrets away. Excellent. I'm on my second play through and intended on getting 100% completion but it looks like I missed something and can't go back to get it. I guess I'll just have to play through again, poor me. 😁 I was not aware of RDR2 until I saw someone playing it on RU-vid and now I'm addicted. I couldn't agree with you more on your opinion of the game, it is an absolute treasure. I am not one to get very emotional about much.. But at certain times in this game, wow! It actually hurt my heart.
