In my videos I try to share my experiments with different craft mediums- using them in different ways, trying new combinations of materials, and just playing around with Rubber Stamps, papers, inks, paints, jewelry, and Photoshop. And now Wigs with Bangs- discussions on different wigs that I have cut bangs into. My blog is now Ursula-Smith.com/blog . I used to be located at EasyScraps.com but all that content has been migrated to my new website listed above. Please note that many times after the first clip in the videos, there may be a follow-up (sometimes more than 1!) if I have more tips or advice to share 😉
Good morning and thanks!I actually tend to like Belle Tress better for me personally only because they never have permatease and I have a teeny tiny head and so it looks a bit more natural. I do agree that I think those fibers are dryer. People do complain about Raquel Welch's heat friendly fibers, but I think they're a bit better than Belle Tress. All that being said, Wavy Day is a fabulous wig. I've been wearing it a lot lately and I love this color and style. It's not as voluminous as some of the Raquel Welch's I have had in the past. And so far the fibers are holding up very well. Yay! Thanks for watching and for commenting. Have an awesome day! ❤️
Hi Joanie! I just had a similar experience with a Tressallure wig. The reviews I saw said it was minimal permatease and low density, but I'm just not finding that with mine. I guess we got the lemons! I feel your pain! Good luck! Sometimes washing the wig does seem to help when I'm not loving one. 😉
Hi Dianne! I just double checked a d yes it is the 5 inch Mk.IV Heavy Duty Saw with Lever Tension and Swivel Blade Clamps . I very rarely use the swivel feature so not sure that is critical. But the size is for use with the Easy Saw. And the tension clamps make it so easy to get the blade in and out of metal. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching! ❤️
Hi CJ! You can get it at Amazon and Michaels. The particular one that I'm using right now looks like they are not making it anymore unfortunately because that was my favorite. But there are other ones out there. There's one that's a yellow color (Alumilite) that Michael's carries and that one's fine. I will say I'm not as crazy about the Let's Resin brand of molding putty. It takes longer to set and it seems softer and so the mold is not as good especially for finer details. Just search for two-part silicone molding putty and you should be able to find it. Good luck with your mirror! Thanks for watching and commenting! Have an awesome rest of your day 😊
@@UrsulaSmith Thank you. The piece that is missing has a twin on the opposite side of the mirror. So I can’t use a resin as it’s attached to the mirror, if that makes sense. I’ll look for the putty or clay to do the mold. I appreciate your advice, time and consideration.
Hi CJ again- I just wanted to make sure I was clear in my answer. The Let's Resin I mentioned in my previous answer was a silicone molding putty put out by that resin company. The resin is fine I just don't like the putty as much as the Alumilite or the other one I used (Easy Mold by environmental technology). Hope that clarifies things and I hope you are able to fix your mirror!
@@UrsulaSmith I’m sorry to keep bothering you. The putty I think might work best in my situation, as I don’t have an individual piece, I need to mold it in situ. Does the resin allow this?
I think I keep confusing things by mentioning "Let's Resin". That's a company that makes both resin and the molding putty. It's the molding putty that I'm saying try to find a different brand. My thinking is you will use another molding putty brand like Alumilite to to take a mold of the piece on the other side. You can use resin in that mold or clay or whatever you plan on using to replicate the missing piece in that silicone mold. However that is just going to mold that piece as is, so if it's a directional item this may not work. For instance if the piece that remains points left and you need the missing piece to point right the molding putty won't allow you to do that unfortunately. If it's the same as the missing piece then you will be fine. Hope that all makes sense 🙂
Hi Kent! I've been meaning to set up a holder to be able to video when I saw and do things at my bench. Give me a few days and I'll try to set that up and show you my setup. I do so much more sawing now that I have a good saw, that bench pin, and if you look at my newer videos you can see the idea of the Easy Saw clamp with some jigs I made. That has taken me to a whole another level. I'll try and videotape to make it more easily understood and put it up within the next week. Thanks for watching and for commenting! Have a great night!
I forget what the pillars are for. Honestly I took them off. I do remember seeing a video, I believe by Knew Concepts , on what those were for. I don't use that brass bar much either. That was supposed to be able to help with more straight or angled cuts. The big difference with that particular bench pin is the stiffness of it compared to the wooden one I was using. It's thin yet sturdy and I have an easier time holding pieces down while I saw, and keeping the piece from bouncing around. But for lots of sawing and piercing I use the Easy Saw clamp now as I mentioned in my earlier comment. I do most of the work in the clamp with my copper jigs, and finish up on this bench pin. Again I'll try and do a video and hopefully that will help give a better demonstration of what I'm trying to explain 😉
Awesome! I'm so glad it worked for you! I do have other ideas that I've played around with as well. Here's one of my more recent ones... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NH9PDkfrAN4.htmlsi=XnJtreakRzl8Bbs4 Thanks for watching and for commenting! Have an awesome day! 💖
Good morning! I have one where I talk about it at least I'll find it and comment again. I started doing it after watching one by Patti's Pearls. I'll try to find that too if I can. 😊
Here is the one I talked about cutting the bangs... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TNPxaHDrMuE.htmlsi=5OH9_XRs-eAJSMQi And this one... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8bZznpKPenM.htmlsi=okeGbiZLXdzgsswh Here are the ones by Patti's Pearls that helped me... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jtXnGcBZXcg.htmlsi=HgPt36apDdhtp0Iw And... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kABj6JqFfRk.htmlsi=AVoyWQEUv8-2vs7F Hope this helps! Hi Donna! Hope you're having a great summer! I have tried the spray removable adhesive either the stuff they make for quilting or mounting adhesives- Blair makes a really good one and krylon is okay as well. I go back and forth whether I'm going to use either the sprays or the zig marker with my stencils because a lot of times I use both sides and having sticky on one side can interfere. Also sometimes spraying over with lots of wet media can reactivate the glue and then cause problems. So it's probably a personal choice and if I had all the time in the world I would make doubles of everything, maybe even triples so I could have one that is sprayed with adhesive on one side, another one with the adhesive on the other side and one that was just plain. But, I never have that kind of time 🤣🤣🤣. Have an awesome rest of your day!
I was looking for something to hold work so glad you mentioned that. I had a major surgery in my left hand so it's hard to hold pieces when sawing. Still looking for a clamping device. I did contact Knew Concepts to see if they could come up with a clamping device for this bench pin. We'll see. If not, thinking about using longer screws and gluing a piece of leather under the bar.
Hi Dianne! I have another video on clamping systems if you haven't watched those yet. They should be in the same playlist as this video. The clamping systems have made all the difference for me and now I'm able to saw and file much easier. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and for commenting! Have a great rest of your weekend! 😊
Thanks Catherine! They are loads of fun! And you aren't always sure of what will happen so that makes it even more interesting! Thanks for watching and commenting! Have an awesome weekend!! ❤️
Amazing what you can create - Micaceous Iron and Distress Oxide MAGIC Made Easy by Ursula. Honestly the deep coffee brown color and then you apply the brighter colors - you are so creative
Thanks again Karen! It's the Mirapure. I can't remember if I put the link to the blog post about all the wigs I've made videos about in my newer ones. But I try to keep that updated as I learn new things and use more products. Here's the link... ursula-smith.com/wigs-with-bangs/ Hope that helps! I'm trying to finish up another one right now that's by Ellen Willa and it looks very similar to this one. It's a little less hair, however it's more expensive. But at least it's another idea for that long straight style. Thanks again for watching and for commenting! I love interacting with y'all that watch my videos 🙂🥰
Thanks Karen! I'm so glad they are helpful! I remember when I first started wearing wigs how frustrated I was with the lack of bangs. I still wish there were more fun styles with bangs! If I were a wig maker I'd make wigs both with and without bangs. And have more silver gray styles for those of us blondes going gray😉 . Thanks for watching an commenting!!💕
Thanks Anne Marie! I made a bunch of different shapes from scrolls and they make great embossing plates. I also have an Owl 😉 Have an awesome day! Thanks for watching and commenting ❤❤❤
Karen! Thank you so much! I wear that color almost exclusively now because it matches my bangs color. And that is definitely one of my favorite styles. If only my real hair could do that 🤣. Thanks for the lovely comment! Have a wonderful day! 💖
I haven't tried the Amazon paper you mentioned, thank you for the link, I will have to try that out! I also had no idea that Duralar came in more than one weight, the pad I have is the same as your older one. Michaels recollections papers have worked quite well for me with detailed cuts on my Scan 'n' cut, having the autoblade seems to help as it seems to cope with small variations in thickness and different weights of card, Hammermill have some good options too - they do a 12x12" size which is useful for boxes and frames. Do you have to adjust the settings for the blade with either of your machines? I'm not so familiar with that brand's operating system. I wonder if a fresh blade would help with some of the little torn areas, plus sometimes if my mats need to be restuck, my papers lift and get caught in the blade too, so a sticky mat and fresh blade, or a sharpened blade can help prevent those things from happening.
Thanks for all the tips! I do have to adjust the blade on my Blackcat Cougar but not on my Silhouette Curio. I have tried Recollections and that definitely works as do a lot of other papers when I am doing less intricate designs. The problem is I love scrolls and tiny cutouts for my jewelry work and so for those-especially the combination of intricate scrolls and tiny- the normal papers don't work well. I definitely agree with you that the stickiness of mats is one of the most critical pieces to make sure that the cutouts work well! I try to walk that line between having good stickiness and tossing another mat. I actually have some footage of some of the things I've done with old mats but it hasn't been edited and released yet haha. I'm still so far behind! 😁 Thanks for visiting and especially for commenting with all that great information! Have an awesome day! ❤️
@@UrsulaSmith Thanks! I would love to see how you use those old mats, at the moment I use mine almost as a protector for my table as I can't run it through the machine anymore as the corners are bent up. I'm really enjoying your videos, I love that you are using your own reference photos and artwork, as well as stamps and svgs, I'm finding that very inspiring!
I'll try to get that edited soon. It's been a while so I've even forgotten all the things I did with them but I know I keep them to hold little pieces down and sometimes I use it with my Sizzix Big Shot again to hold things down and also as a shim when I'm trying to emboss with something that's out of the norm 😁
Those are beautiful backgrounds! 🩵I love your color choices and the tip to run it back through the embossing folder. It made such a difference and I wouldn’t have thought to do that! 😂
I love the experiments. Some I do turn out great some not do much. The not so great ones I use to die cut words or letters with glaze on them. Now they’re awesome! I never throw out any of these experiments as with a little bit of this or that and they turn out a hit! Thanks for sharing! Appreciate it!
Another craft friend and I were just talking about how we never throw any scraps of paper out. 😂 They are so useful at times though! I love that you experiment too! It's always fun to "meet" like-minded crafters! Thanks for visiting and thanks for commenting! Have an awesome day!
Haha thanks so much for the comment! I sometimes try to hide my fingers and nails because they look so bad! I am using the super glue bandaid stuff to try to keep my fingers from falling apart 😂😂😂. Thanks for watching and commenting! Have an awesome night!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Ursula, I really like those dies and the process..funny, when you were using the press and it was going to the resistance I caught myself squinting and trying to listen for that little pop. Hey you know the little bags that come in Tennis shoes, aspirin, vitamins, etc that keep out moisture ? My work bench and tool box drawers are full of those and they work keeping my tools rust free. Every time I get one I throw it in one of many drawers. I love how those pieces came out, you had my attention, again. Thank you, have a great night.
Hi again Deby!! I love your comments!! Thanks again!! But just an FYI on those sachet thingys (dessicant packets or something like that) I did the same thing, but apparently if you leave them ON anything steel, they can eventually fill with enough moisture that they leak and start to rust the metal!! I forget which jewelry related group that was posted in, but I only leave them in or around, never on my tools and only for a little bit and check them often and toss them after a while. I keep my good stuff in tupperware or plastic bags too. And I run a dehumidifier. It's not super humid where I am thank goodness so I don't have to battle rust like some folks do- that would be a pain!!! Have a fabulous night! I'm turning in PS- I need more drawers in my space 😊
@@UrsulaSmith Thanks for the tip Ursula, You know I might put them in a netted sachet/jewelry bag and stuff them back in a corner...haven't had the problem but no sense on waiting for it to happen. Have a great night.
Never heard of those dies but I use my steel rule dies on my leather scraps in colors that I get from Etsy and they work great. I am also thinking about going to faux leather and faux suede. I love my Big Shot. I clean aluminium cans , open them cut them then use them with the embossing pads I have..really cool stuff. The only thing I do not like is the acrylic pads because of warping, marks, etc.. so I heard you can buy those self healing mats in pretty much the same size and use those instead. I'm going shopping ! Where did you get the mylar mats ? Happy New Year !!!
Hi Deby! I use my Accucut steel ruled dies too on leather. I made a bunch of ornaments that way this Holiday season. So much fun! And I agree- the Sizzix has served me well for so many years!! I haven't video'd or posted these, but I've done embossing on the super thin metal (like the cans) and then glued to altoid tins. Very fun indeed! I do have the self healing mats (they are black) and I have to say don't love them all that much. I like the purple ones from Accucut much better. They seem to last forever! And those you can cut with tin snips to make them smaller when you just need to cut/emboss a small part of a die. Hope that makes sense. I have filmed that buried in one of the videos in my leather series ;) I think I got the mylar from Sizzix if I remember correctly. It might be listed as plastic shims. One of the Stamping or Scrapbooking sites like SimonSays or Scrapbooking.com might have them too. OnlyOneLifeCreations is an awesome site too. Thanks again for watching and commenting! Have an awesome night!!
@@UrsulaSmith What a great idea with the Altoid tins and I have a few around. I was also going to cover some old larger cigar boxes to make purses. Temu sells the cutest antique looking feet, latches and hinges for cheap. What did you not like about the self healing mats if you don't mind telling me before I buy ? Did you try alcohol inks on the embossed tin ?I saw someone do that and blow different colors around and it was really pretty.
@@DebyNieto-kq2ci I can't quite take credit for the altoid tin- a guy on one of my jewelry sites mentioned using it with the press and I decided to go another route since I wasn't that experienced with the press yet 😉 I'd love to see your purses! I bet those will be so cool! And If we are talking about the same thing- I didn't love the black magic mat because it didn't seem to do either cutting or embossing well. The Accucut mats worked better for me. If I am doing tiny or intricate cutting, I use the Sizzix Chrome Precision Base Plate and if I am doing embossing with alternative stuff like my Yupo paper embossing plates, or stencils, etc I use the Sizzix Embossing mat and rubber that came with it. Hope that helps! Oh an yes I did use alcohol inks on some of them. Some of the copper ones I actually flame colored, but others I either left plain or used the inks. Have a great evening! Thanks again for visiting!!
Hi Crystal! I have an older one- it's a Xerox Phaser 6280. I bought that one because it also did color not just black and white, but if I'm being honest I probably wouldn't buy a color laser again. Just in case you were wondering that 😉 Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope this helps ☺️
One more tip about masking fluid: it is really meant to be used on quality watercolor paper (such as Arches 140#). Some paper will rip and pill with masking fluid, so try a heavier paper if that happens.
Pixie repositionable adhesive for stencils will hold the stencil to the paper while you apply masking fluid so it doesn't seep under the stencil. Thank you for documenting and sharing all your experimentation!
Deby left a comment and I must have clicked the wrong button and deleted it, because I can't find it anymore! Sorry about that, but thanks Deby for trying to comment :)
Hi Ursula! My dad has a camera store when I was growing up. He always used seating wax when wrapping gifts. No tape allowed. My first job was wrapping presents at his store. We had sticks of wax that we would melt in the flame of a candle. Sometimes you’d get a little swirl of soot from the flame. We would lick the stamp just before stamping the melted wax. It seemed to keep the stamp from sticking to the wax.
@@PaulaZF Hi Paula! That's so cool! I'm still playing around with them, so we'll see whether I get to do them for all my Holiday cards this year ;) Thanks for stopping by, and sharing your story! Have a great night!
Hi Kathy! You are so welcome!! It's so frustrating that there are so few wigs with bangs! In general the heat friendly ones work best. I'm behind with videos but I've also tried Raquel Welch Bella Vida and Wavy Day and Ellen Ville Music and they work too. The Music one has less hair so the fringe is thinner. Hope that all helps!! Thanks so much for the kind words! Have an awesome day!!
Hi Donna! You can certainly try to do that and if the design is simple it should work on a digital cutter. My designs are typically very intricate and I never had success trying to cut stencil material. So when I found Yupo and the other plastic type papers I was ecstatic! They cut great and although they are a little thin, stacking them makes them equivalent to the depth of the stencil material and works just as well. It's a little fiddly but for my designs it works much better than the stencil plastic. But absolutely give that a shot if that's what you have. You may have more luck than I did! 😊 Thanks for visiting and commenting! Have an awesome day!
Hi Donna! I love playing around with the results of my paint, ink, etc results in Photoshop. Except that there are days where I sit down for a session and lose all track of time and it's 4 hours later and I'm still there 😂
Hi Donna! That definitely works. I've tried more distress oxide ink, metallic ink, white ink and white paint. I know I've mentioned in some of my videos that I'm way backed up trying to get filmed footage edited and posted. I definitely have some video footage where I do just that but it isn't released yet. Hopefully soonish. I'll prioritize that one 😉😁. Thanks again for visiting and commenting! Love the way you think! It's nice to converse and exchange ideas with like-minded people! ❤️
Hi Marcy! I'm not sure if you mean the machine that I'm using or the tools to actually make the impressions. I have a whole playlist of all the different things I've tried to make the impressions including embossing folders and paper cut outs, polymer clay, and embossed metal, etc. In all of these, well actually most of these, experiments I am using the Sizzix Big Shot machine ( a pretty old one 😊) to do the embossing. There is one video where I use an Accucut machine and a Potter USA impression die to emboss with, so that is not for the general person probably 😉. Hope that answers your question? Let me know if it didn't. Have a great night! Thanks for watching!
Hi Fiona! That would certainly be worth a try if the die is flat on the non cutting side and is the exact shape you want. However, sometimes the dies have holes to poke the paper out on the non cutting side. Also, the wood does wouldn't work at all. And many times I take just pieces of the die cut image not the whole thing and some shaoes I even cut myaelf on the digital cutter. So for all those other instances, using the die cut is your best bet. Thanks for watching and commenting! Have a great day!
