The year is 1907. It is 10 years after his disappearance from the Paris Opera House and the Phantom has escaped to a new life in New York where he lives amongst the screaming joy rides and freak-shows of Coney Island. In this new electrically-charged world, he has finally found a place for his music to soar. All that is missing is his love - Christine Daaé.
One thing I love about the costuming for Christine here in this moment that doesn’t get mentioned is that. 1) She is wearing a white robe 2) Her hair is down. In this moment she looks like her old self again, as this moment is about Christine finding herself again. Here she is Christine Daae again, the Phantoms Muse, his Angel of Music, not the Vicomtesse de Chaney whom is forced to bottle up all her passions. And her going to the mirror and looking at herself as he slips that necklace on her is Erik basically saying “ We both know who you REALLY are my dear, time to let your true self out again.”
Part of me wonders if Christine faked that faint, notice that she throws her arms around him in a hug when he picks her up even though she’s suppose to be unconscious lol As angry as she is with him for leaving her, she is still very much in love with him but she cant let herself show it, as he deserves a tongue lashing for leaving her, so ‘fainting’ was her way of giving into that desire to be close to him for a moment, as she knew he’d pick her up. 😉 That’s kinda my head canon as I’m not a huge fan of the overly dramatic faint LOL
This song being the same as "Til I hear you sing" with different lyrics is just so perfect and Ben did an amazing job changing the emotions behind the notes
So…after this, Christine reprises Twisted Every away from the first musical, in which she sings that the Phantom “kills without a thought” and “murders all that’s good.” Has she really forgotten all that after ten years?
Well it seems he’s put his killing days behind him thankfully, as he is now the owner of Phantasma. But Christine already knows him and what he is, this time it’s not about how much the Phantoms changed, instead it is about…how much has CHRISTINE changed?
you can take it! YES! you can feel it! YES! you'll embrace it! ... says the Phantom of the opera to a 10 year old ... ^^ gotta love that show, trashy as it is, its alot of fun.
I had so hoped "Lover Never Dies" would come to Hamburg. It is beyond me, why this piece failed so badly everywhere. There are some really great songs (this being one) and the ending is just perfect musical drama... I would have bought a ticket! I watched it over and over and the translation is extremely well done. Does anyone know how wrote the German lyrics?
Fun fact; Masachika Ichimura, the first phantom shown in this video, actually was the first Japanese phantom in 1988. Now 25 years later, he’s doing the phantom again in love never dies. So amazing
For everyone commenting about how it looks like the Australian version. Andrew Lloyd Webber apon seeing the Australian version decided to change all other productions to look like it.
