None of the hardware stores near me in Arizona have pvc board larger than 1/4", and even then they cost $45 for one 2 x 4 ft board :( Not sure where everyone is finding these...
They are called several of names which makes it really confusing. But i believe you shouldn;t get the ones labelled as foams.. Those are the ones used in standeess and are not weatherproof.
Lmao that's because you're still living in 2010, probably getting your info from old guys and dorks who keep goldfish It's all about, paludariums, we'll not in all cases You have 1 piece of the pie Insects break down things into smaller things Springtails break things into even smaller things If you have deeper levels of substrate, wet at the bottom, you will likely have much more even smaller bacteria that further breaks things down Then, only after the nutrients have been broken up by the smallest of bacteria, and only then, does your plants actually benefit from the clean up crew. Your isopods are not depositing nutrients deep into the soil. I believe, a close ecosystem should be that. It needs a water feature enough for fish, but doesn't necessarily need to contain fish, The water penetrates the lowest level of soil What does this mean without me explaining on and on? You get the idea, have enough of an ecosystem to the point your pets food spawns naturally, aquatic creatures that eat feeder waste and further clean things up, healthy vibrant plants It means if you have a dry/arid reptile, Sorry, you have a lot of cleaning to do It's like taking a 10 gallon tank with 15 goldfish, nothing else, and complaining about having to clean it up
Because of everything I have studied that you are covering ---I am now ready to put my corn snake in her very nice looking bioactive and enjoy the whole process! I have actually been praying to figure out what to do about my few fungus gnats and my CUC. NOW I KNOW. I will stop stressing, dry out my top layer and ENJOY!
Hey there, thanks for making this video. No matter if people agree with the content or not, I do think people need to ask more questions about the recommendations that are so commonly thrown around. Is the Facebook group mentioned in this video still active? I can't find anything under that name.
I put a 1x2 all the way around 2 inches below the top. I put a stainless steel screen on top of that and screwed it down. This left me an inch and a half for my led lights to hide in but you could put other types of lights up there. You can make that area deeper and put a door on the front to make a canopy. This PVC board is very much like wood and gives you a ton of flexibility. You can sand it, paint it, drill it, etc just like wood and any design you can do in wood you can probably do with this stuff.
Thank you so much for this video! I want to build my chameleon a forever enclosure (2x2x4ft). I have cold dry winters so a pvc cage is what I’m looking to make. What could I do for the top to be screen so I can have ventilation & set his lamps on? Also curious how much this build cost you!
Because I’m not a professional and I’m also trying to do some things similar with absolutely no guidance from anyone else… perhaps try cutting out a large section from the top and getting some screen mesh that’s sturdy enough for what you’re trying to use as heating and stapling it in with heavy duty, staples or seal it with silicone, whichever one you prefer; it won’t look beautiful, but it should get the job done. If you really wanna go all out, though, you can technically make removable screen squares, similar to what you see in the store-bought ones, and secure it in with some sort of bolt in clamp. I’ve seen this done on wooden enclosures and though it may be a little bit more tricky with PVC I believe you could get it done with some research. I hope this helps 🥺
Is a 4x2x2 big enough for an adult? To make a screen top, figure out how big of a square hole you need on top to fit your lighting and cut it out. Buy 1/4" stainless steel hardware cloth to use as screen. Cut scrap pieces of pvc or buy some extra trim boards to make a frame the size of the square hole you cut out, staple the hardware cloth to it and trim the excess hanging out, flip the whole piece over so the hardware cloth is on the bottom and screw it down to the top of the enclosure where you cut the hole out. That will make a slightly raised, neatly framed piece on top for you to sit all the lights on.
might be a stupid question but is the PVC the same as a Ceiling Tile because thats what they wanted to sell me at home depot. That did not seem correct to me.
Concerning the BioDude substrate, I wonder if they had changed something from 2020 when I ordered my first bag, because I did not remember it being so full of bark/tree pieces when I ordered my second bag in 2022. I was very disappointed in it for my snake. :( After watching your videos though, I might add a light layer of potting mix and see if my pothos will grow any better. Would you suggest starting over by getting rid of the BioDude soil I have and replacing it with basic potting soil? I had added some rabbit droppings for fertilizer a couple weeks ago, the plants seem to be doing a little better since then. I would say my plants are surviving but not thriving forthe past year and a half. They did really well the first year I had them.
You could put a screen on the inside over the holes. Just make sure it's a fine weave so they don't try to push into it and scrape up their noses (I used chicken wire for this purpose once and my snakes were convinced that if they pushed hard enough they could get through the wires. 😑 lol)
Menards and Home Depot have them for $35 for 4x2 sheets. You can buy larger 4x8 panels which are less expensive per sq foot, but are harder to cut to size.
