Its criminal Sweet Lou isn't in the Hall of Fame. He should've took roids late in his career like 90% of every player in the HOF today.

Better lifetime WAR than Jeter and same as Johnny Bench (also better than Trammels). When he was first eligible for the HOF his lifetime stats placed him in top five statistically among 2nd basemen, all of whom were in the Hall. Defensively one of the best 2nd basemen to ever play. Three gold gloves and four silver sluggers. It's one of the biggest HOF slights ever. One of the best leadoff hitters I've ever seen, could get it going with a hit, walk or homer.

Whitaker has better stats than 14 other 2nd basemen in the HOF. He is neck and neck statistically with Ryne Sandberg, yet he always gets the snub. It makes no sense. I think it's because he was so quiet, humble, and unassuming when he played, so nobody paid much attention to him. The only ones, it seems, who know his qualifications are Michiganders who watched it for 18 years.

By the way, I got to meet Sweet Lou Whitaker, down on the restored field of Tiger Stadium, after it had been torn down, and right at SECOND BASE. As we were walking off the field, I simply turned and told him "Lou, you're a hall of famer in my book"! And he said "thank you man, I appreciate that"!
@GOBLUEADAM
@GOBLUEADAM 5 лет назад
THEY DIDN'T DO HIM JUSTICE! Sweet Lou took a KNEE for his religion, along with Chet Lemon, long before KAPERNICK, and nobody said a word, when they wouldn't show up for the anthem! But the real reason why Lou and for a long time, Alan Trammell were not in the H of F, was because of DETROIT SPORTS WRITER, Joe Falls, who did something to Lou, and Lou poured water on his head! And as it goes, you can't have one, without the other, and Falls kind of put the word out nationally that those Tigers were not worthy of Hall of Fame inductions, because THEY DIDN'T GET ALONG PERFECTLY with the local media! But Falls was the guy who carried DRUNKEN RED WINGS, out of the old Olympia Bar, but they were worthy of their league's H of F! LOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

There is a big difference. They never took a knee nor showed any disrespect to the flag. The would just stay in the locker room till it was over. That aside Joe Falls was one of the biggest jackasses to ever infest a press box.

@kyokogodai-ir6hy

I do not believe Morris belongs in the HOF. His career ERA is far too high (3.90). Only thing that could get an ERA that high in the HOF is 300 wins. Based on other 2B and SS in the HOF, both Tram and Lou belong in.
@goblue5484
@goblue5484 7 лет назад
kyokogodai Morris absolutely is a Hallof Famer. He pitched deep into every game. He ate innings even if he was getting beat around on a bad day. Nowadays pitchers give up 2-3 hits in one of the first few innings and they get yanked. If for any other reason just the fact of he pitched the greatest game in a deciding World Series game against an unbelievable offense. 175. Yeah that's right. 175 complete games. WOW!!! I didn't even know he had that many. Proves my point.

GO BLUE....I have lived in Wayne County my entire life (now 52). I worked at Tiger Stadium, as a junior usher, in 1983. I have seen Jack Morris pitch many a game. He does not belong in the HOF. Pitching deep into every game means nothing. He didn't eat that many innings (only leading the league once), certainly no more than any other pitcher of his time (Dave Stieb finished first twice during that time). He finished in double figure losses 11 times in 18 years. The only statistic he led the league in more than twice (he did lead the league in wins twice, in 1981 strike year and 1992 for Toronto, with that truly monster offense) was wild pitches, which he did six times. The only reason I can even think of letting Morris in is that it gives other pitchers a chance. Andy Pettitte has about the same stats. And one game (with Minnesota) does not give him a pass into the HOF. SMH

The Tigers had TWO of Jehovah's Witnesses on their team for several years: Lou and Chet Lemon. I respect them both, as players second, as men who stand by their bible-based convictions first. They meant no disrespect to flag, country, or countrymen. They just wanted to give their sole devotion, allegiance, and reverence to Jehovah (God).
