Egypt's intentions were not a total surprise because in 1971 Israel used the first surveillance drone a model plane with a camera to spy on Egypt's troop build ups . However they were poorly prepared because many believed that Egypt would not attack . The saving grace was the fact that Egypt was not that great at fighting a war anyway .

A couple historical inaccuracies: The non aggression pact between germany and the ussr was not secret. The USSR was one of the last countries to sign a non aggression pact after france, britain, and more, had already signed them a few years prior and denied an alliance with the ussr to contain hitler. Poland, hostile to the ussr for some time, had also tried the appeasement strategy the other countries in the west were trying for hitler, and fell prey to their further incursions. The USSR offered/wanted to help Poland shore up its defences against the nazis, as having poland fall to them would be a catastrophic strategic setback. So as the nazis invaded, the USSR counter-invaded the now defeated poland. The German advance into the USSR was, much unlike that of their advances into the west, met with heavy resistance (but also with heavy losses from the USSR). The german advances in the west were relatively quick and easy in comparison. The reasons stem from the entire population of the USSR being militarised against the nazis ethnic cleanse and ideological enemy (as compared to capitalist rivalry of the west), as well as the nazis lack of information on Soviet weaponry and tactics, which were extremely recently developed thanks to the industrialisation done in preparation. The nazis were somewhat angry at how advanced and numerous of resources they were faced against. Peter Lemon was a hero, courageous, quick witted, agile, his great love for his friends ;turned him into an unstoppable force that day. Bravery like that is the difference between people who step forward at times like that or seek a place to hide. I say cannabis had very little to do with his victory that day, and that too much emphasis is put on it in this documentary?. I say it was the kind of man that he was, an uncommonly courageous one. Personally smoking never made me any less quick witted or sharp, and that may be true of Peter too. But for others it is not true. ( I use cannabis as medicine for my complicated epilepsy.) I applaud his heroic actions that day and if that is his account of that day, and how it was done ,I respect that! Thanks for bringing us the story of this uncommon and unlikely looking hero! It makes it all the better!
Sledge talks about the smell: rotting food, human excrement, and of course, dead bodies broiling in the sun. There was no way to bury any of it because the island was volcanic rock. No movie or documentary can reproduce that part of it. If Dante knew about it, he would have included it in The Inferno.
I am Russian, and I hate it about what they have done in USSR trying to copy Concorde. It was all about showing off, the engineers were probably told to cut edges, save on parts and produce the plane just for the production reason, not safety… that how everything was done in USSR.. and I will be honest, car industry in russia sucks too.
The Paul Harvey part of this story is very interesting. Dutch's Father was an associate of Al Capone, his lawyer I believe. He betrayed Al Capone so Dutch could join the US A Air Core, Dutch's father met his end on a Chicago street corner in a blaze of machine fire.
