Yes, it's an old JP Slalom Board. maybe 125 liter? Had a power box originally, but that broke after maybe 5 sessions, and a friend replaced that with a deep tuttle and beefed it up to handle foil loads.
whoa awesome! I just ordered mine for my motovlog but also wanted to see if I could use it for sailing. Did you have any issues with landing it away from water?
@@gvictor808 I bought it and don't yet have the guts to fly it over water with the beacon while kiteboarding. How are you waterproofing the beacon and what is your plan if the wind dies before the battery dies and you can't get to shore?
@@JohnBeede I use an armband cell phone holder, with the beacon in a ziploc snack bag. The only fail safe I know of would be to have someone on shore with a controller or phone who could call her back to shore. I haven’t done this myself yet, but someone was telling me that it is possible.
I would love if a day you can record with another camera the backstage. Preparing the Skydio when you begin to fly from the sand and when you land at the end and when you prepare the beacon, etc :)
It’s a very interesting study case for @skydio, there was a moment when she was less than a feet of the water I think ... I saw the video pausing every second, when she lifts the camera she sees the table as a closeness reference, also when the camera looks in zenithal way it is seen how the wind of the propellers move the water. And the seabed looks like a distant terrain (visually)
Can you explain more of the process of coming back? I see you probably control it by beacon in a zip bag? so your goal is to return back to shore before batter runs out and the you land manually? do you also take iphone with you for safety? from my understanding only app has a "return home" button :( really disappointed so far that such a basic feature missing on the beacon.
Hi Victor.. May I ask you for advice? I got my skydio2 and plan to record my jetsurfing watersports activities with a beacon. I just realized the beacon is missing the basic "return home" button and obviously I cant use app while surfing in the water. Do you have any tips how you return the drone home with a beacon?
The way I do it is to tell the rider to get the beacon back to me (me standing on shore) in 10 minutes. Or if I am riding then I just have to get back well before battery runs out. The only way I know how to get the Skydio2 home is to get the beacon home.
@@gvictor808 well there is a return home button on the app - you can choose between "return to phone" and "return to takeoff spot" but we cant use app much when riding in the water :( I dont understand why such a basic feature is missing in the beacon.
I put it in ziploc bags, then in a cell phone carrier. I prefer the carrier that straps to my arm, but this video was a necklace type. You can sort of see it in the video as I hand it to Josh.
Hey Victor, Cool video. What setting did you use for follow mode? Did you set it with the app (phone) or using the beacon? It looks like you got about 11 minutes not including take off and landing. Is that about right? Did you set a home point on the app and if so, did it work? Thanks!
Thanks. I had it on Motion Track even though it looks like it was on some other program this flight. I am definitely happy with the resulting video. I don't use the phone at all, I just use the Beacon. There is no home point he way I am using it; I hand launch and hand recover using the Beacon. Yes, about 11 minutes is as far as I push it these days. I just tell the Beacon holder that the only rule is to return the Beacon to me in 10 minutes.
@@gvictor808 I see. Is this the default setting for Motion track? I am wondering if you changed the drone position or height before you filmed. Thanks!
I am not sure what the default is. After launch I go straight into fixed track or motion track, and then set distance. The latest firmware and/or height floor has changed behavior quite a bit, too. I’ll need to experiment more. Orbit looks pretty cool, too.
@@wiredsort...rideon5110 I think the latest firmware sets the height floor over water at like 50 ft, but am not certain(this video certainly seems like it). That is kinda neat video result but I disabled the height floor for now as I like to see the pilot/rider and I hope I can get the drone back down closer to water. I will gladly trade the drone safety for better video. WIll keep you posted. Current best settings as of 10/10/20: no height floor, closest setting or one away, beacon only. I like fixed track with sun at drone's back best, but now intrigued by orbit mode (selcetable on beacon). I think slow orbit might be crazy cool.
It doesn't work well to cut the motor while riding...it's pretty much just gonna make you fall, I think. I do adjust speed by up and down one click while riding, but that's it. Also, I only ride flat water on the fliteboard so far.
Amazing and thanks for sharing may I asked where did you get your Fliteboard, I would imagine I have to register that here in Texas since it has a motor.
Hey Victor, I'm guessing the issue you had with the beacon was because Skydio 2 uses motion of the beacon to distinguish who is holding it. Had he continued to move away from you, Skydio 2 would have realized it was not locked onto the correct subject because you weren't moving, but the Beacon was. You can see a perfect example of this at 2:36 after it lost visual track of him in the water. As soon as he got up and started moving again, Skydio 2 was able to easily distinguish where the beacon was, and who was holding it. It was most likely tracking you because you either A. hand launched, or B. You were the first person it saw.The easiest way to lock onto the correct subject is to either have them hand launch the drone, or specifically select them using the phone app. You can also use beacon steering to fly Skydio 2 until it is looking at the correct subject and press the Skydio button, once your subject starts moving Skydio 2 will easily lock on because the correct subject is already in frame. The 4th option is to just let them keep moving until Skydio 2 is able to locate the moving beacon via GPS. The first couple seconds will be Skydio 2 searching for the subject and they may not be in frame but it should lock easier as the subject continues moving, also the better your GPS signal strength, the faster Skydio 2 will be able to locate the Beacon.
Thanks for the info and feedback. And congrats on this amazing product. This Skydio 2 is a game changer. Going forward, I will try: hand launch, steer it to the rider, put in follow mode, and hand the beacon to the rider and slip away hoping it keeps visual lock on the rider.
The first couple of times over the water were pants-filling. Especially when the beacon went underwater (in ziploc bags) on my first flight over open ocean and I thought I had a flyaway. I’m still not sure how the algorithms handle water but it’s stayed dry so far. I think the documentation says something about 30ft wide bodies of water? One tip for ocean flights is not to hand launch while standing in the shore break...I think it tried to match the motion of the incoming water and it acted like it wanted to came right at me on hand launch. Not 100% sure on this but might be a useful anecdote for someone. I guess just stand such that if it follows the wave in then it won’t find anything. I know it has the obstacle avoidance and all but maybe on launch it’s still trying to get its bearings.
Great idea!! I cant wait to get my skydio 2. I mainly I'm going to use it for my jet ski videos. Great to see it reacting over the water so well. Another guy had asked and is a very good question where did you put your beacon since it is not waterproof?? Keep up the good work😁🤙
That is the beach I have been to a lot and I have taken some kitesurfing lessons there. I can't wait to get my skydio 2 and let it chase me around while I kitesurf and snowkite.
