I was a Slough fireman in the 1950’s and worked regularly on the Oxford - Risborough line. This line was kept to main line standards enabling the heaviest engines to use it as a diversionary line on the Paddington - B’ ham route. We had the “11/20 p/m Hinksey Goods, the 11.37 Oxford Goods from Slough. Also there was a top link passenger turn, all stations from Oxford to Padd via Risborough, Wycombe, Maidenhead. It was only a few miles short of being a mileage turn!
@@WildmanEnvironmentalLearning I think that it was in 1954! Paid a visit to what’s left of the Watlington Branch a few years ago. Glad that something has survived of what was my all time favourite line. Happy memories.
