Thank you so much for the comment! What was a takeaway from the video for you? Also, are there other doc student content creators that you follow here on RU-vid? We'd love to feature them!
Aye just do what everyone before you have done. Memorize memorize pass. Education is a joke do not mistake education for intelligence. Some of the dumbest people I know have phds or masters. It's bs. A lie a con.
Thanks for commenting! If only students could just memorize things and be done that would be too easy. The knowledge generation part is what makes the doctoral experience challenging. However, with the right supports in place it can be manageable.

Thank you, Dr. Goings, I really appreciate your break of key attributes for being a successful Dissertation writer. My key takeaway was the two writing modes of writing. I am always going back to make corrections, and then I become frustrated. I also like that you said we should use a playground-friendly approach to my writing process. Love it !
You are very welcome! Yes the two modes of writing is a game changer! As you implement you have to let us know how things go. Are you working on your dissertation proposal?
@@donedissertation I think 1) always come prepared to meetings 2) when connecting with experts, have a specific ask about their expertise 3) stay focused on the prize - done dissertation and publishing. 4) bring an authenticity to your dissertation. Don’t replicate but rather originate.
@@frannythetraveler thanks so much for sharing! These are great insights you've taken. I'm not sure where you are in your doctoral journey but I do hope you apply these insights to your career!
Hi ive been teaching in the lousiana facullty of law since 2012 and personaly i prohibit my students from using such pronoun. It gives informal writting vibes fr😅
Thanks for your comment! This is always an interesting topic because we have preferences as faculty and then there are differences in what students see in published literature. In your situation how do you have students write when they are referring to their own argument or idea in a paper how do you suggest they write it without using I?
@@donedissertation There were a few key points that struck a chord. A. What does success look like for me and where is that? Can I envision myself with task that align with who I am as a person..(Then it really won't be "work"). B. Leveaging your skill set C.Rebuking the vow of poverty and releasing it. D.Getting in spaces where I can share and grow my expertise...Those kind of ideas hit home.
@@patricebarrett5845 Thanks so much for sharing this! These are such great insights. We definitely love to see our clients leverage their doctorate however makes sense for them as there is no right way to do things. And yes to C on your list! We want everyone to have abundance!

Hi! I am a part of the community. I was not a part of the community at that time, so that’s why I was trying to see if a replay was posted anywhere or shared. I have watched the writing training and have been internalizing it and finding ways to put it into practice.
Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately that webinar was only available to folks who registered to attend. Are you a part of our community yet? If not go to www.thedonedisseetation.com/elevate to get access to a complementary writing training and this way you will know about upcoming events for our community!
I'm so sorry to hear this. Have you reached out to your dissertation chair to review your writing? I think having a conversation with them and expressing this and asking for a structured way to approach the writing and dissertation process will be helpful! Let us know how that conversation goes!
I will be applying for my Doctorial by October, do you think it is too early for me to join your coaching class? I want to learn how to write my dissertation.
Thanks for your comment! Harvard decided to phase out their Ed.D. when I was there to focus on their Ed.LD. program. So I didn't realize Ed.D. programs still existed until after I'd gotten into my PhD program.
Who are the students you discussed? Poor writers? No resourcefulness? Lack of research and synthesis skills? It takes a type of student to be successful. Now anyone can get, not earn, a doctorate if willing to pay the money. Also schools, will not refer to as institutions, allow more than one defense. They are not doctors of anything if have to try more than once. Yes your business is a racket.
Thanks for your comment. Universities have policies in place around defenses and there are many cases when students can defend a second time. It shouldn't get to this point, but we have seen it a lot. And students attending reputable universities cannot just pay their way to a doctorate. The work has to be done and we ensure students produce top notch research for their dissertations. Thank you again for your comment!
