Taxed out of existence to pay for Government jobs. Then when the industry is totally destroyed the Government says it is done for your benefit. Just ask the Scottish.
People must be drinking Guinness at home now while watching RU-vid. Once this stupid American election is over and RU-vid is shut down, they will want to go out to celebrate Trump's victory.
It's a global phenomenon. Alcohol consumption has been declining steadily since the mid 2000's. And more recent research has shown that even one alcoholic drink is bad for you. The previous theory that it had some healthful effects has been shown to be false. Baby boomers invented alcoholism, and they are aging out.
About 8 years ago my neighbours in Australia (big drinkers) went to Ireland for a holiday. They said there was no way they could afford to drink in pub.
Something needing consideration is the cost of living, and how this is, with private equity buying up everything. You touched upon the history of and the character of these businesses, private equity are soulless profiteering entities. You claimed it yourself, that in the U.K. many of these businesses are owned by one company. In which case they really wouldn't care where you take your business.
Consider the larger picture; it is the destruction of the FAMILY owned business. Whether that be a farm, ranch, restaurant, pub, grocery store. Those who think they own the world do NOT allow family owned business outside of the ones they own/control.
1.4K Add a comment… @atrociousliar3314 0 seconds ago IT'S MONEY, plain and simple. Lots of words and ideas here, but if all beers were €1, these places would be rammed. I have a wonderful pub opposite me, but it's too expensive. They can't make it cheaper and we can't afford it
I love the Irish pub atmosphere, what I don't love is the massive influx of immigrants that swell the streets and generally take away from the Irish experience.

Wow, wow, wow... I’m absolutely blown away by the response yet again. I put my heart and soul into every video, and seeing this feedback makes all those long days of shooting and editing worth it. Massive thanks to everyone for engaging with this little doc - whether you watched, commented, subscribed, or did all three! I haven’t been able to reply to every comment, but trust me, I’m reading almost every one of them. You’re giving me some really interesting insights, including things I might have missed! I find the whole 'monetization' of an audience a bit uncomfortable, but I have to be honest and say it’s really the only way to make this work sustainable. I’m not the biggest fan of platforms like Patreon, and instead, I want to give a bit of value back to you. So, if you’d like to support my work, I’ve partnered with Ground News. Thankfully I done my drinking (excessive at times T.G.) in the 70s and early 80s. When the crack was mental. Every pub was rocking full of devilment and laughter 7 nights a week. A bad thing maybe who knows. Amazingly the vast majority of people I grew up with and partied with settled down and done well in life. Just became occasional drinkers Marriage, mortgages, children etc took precident. Sadly now people tell me you can dial a number or go on line and get your highs delivered to the door. Married couples not young are at this with young children in the. home. Culture has changed completely. That's the modern outlooking country we live in now. Glad I grew up when I did great times, Young people tell now is the best of times. Good for them, keep her lit. Slainte, 🥂🥃🥃🥂🍻🍺🍷🍺🍻
Cost is one issue but quality is a problem too. I saw a report on Guinness recently which really was saying that the only reason that there was any body or taste was entirely dependent on the gas content not the basic ingredients. I gave up drinking their foreign extra when it went down to 7.0%ABV. It is now 5.5%
After covid i sit in a bar...entertainment barstaff on their phones and the sports channel no one is interested in. And, the price of a pint we helped them with our taxes and what do we get.
Young people don't drink as much - plus, like everything these days, drinks are prohibitively expensive. Ireland is ridiculously expensive for what you get...
It's not just pubs, it's people too. The United Kingdom are not having enough kids. Thanks for having this. channel too. I think pubs are the center of a culture.
