Could be my favorite musical number ever put on film. This movie is the harbinger of AMERICAN GRAFFITI, HAPPY DAYS, LAVERNE & SHIRLEY, GREASE, etc. When I finally saw this film back in 2007 I nearly fell out of my chair at how many other film & TV shows riffed on this classic musical! I just couldn't believe how influential this film has been.
The beacon they mention is kind of a sad story. It was supposed to be a strobe light that served as a sort of symbolic lighthouse over New York harbor. The thing was tested a few times and then broke and was never repaired.
I’m sure this is an unpopular opinion but the dance number for Anything Goes really should be cut in half. It goes on forever. How much tap can we listen to before hating it?
OMG! What a surprise that this showed up on my RU-vid! It was summer of 1968 I believe, and I was in the UCLA Marching Band, which had been contracted to march in the parade sequence at the 20th Century Fox lot in Culver City. What a thrill it was to "hang out" and then perform with Barbra Streisand, Walter Matthau and director Gene Kelly! We're the ones in the white uniforms with the red trim near the end of the parade. Seeing this video really made my day!
@@TheXnyr Thanks for your reply, TheXnyr! As for the location of the 20th Century Fox lot, it was in Century City (just west of Beverly Hills), not Culver City. My bad! I keep playing the parade music on RU-vid, and it still gives me goose bumps!
Always loved that man Robert Morse and that was his best movie.Absolutely brilliant movie,brilliant cast a true classic in every way.I forgot that he died a few years ago now I feel sad.I'll have to watch it again but not for a while though.God bless you Robert Morse and thank you for the entertainment you brought to us.
Thanks for your comment! I've loved that movie since i saw it at its first run at Radio City. Funny, most people get pissed because I leave that intro in, but I think it's gold. BTW, if you haven't seen The Loved One, it is comedy gold with Bobby Morse ca. 1961 All star cast too.

This is such an emotive song, not just for us fans but for Gary, I'm guessing? Rightly or wrongly, don't think it should be sung with a smile. Just sayin'. Listen to the lyrics, not really the vibe you and your boyfriend are giving maybe? All kudos to Gary, as always x
