Typical isn’t it: they only had ambulances for the officers, none for the other ranks. Until a corporal found a bunch of lorry drivers who were willing to take the wounded troops to the hospital during their lunch hour.
At first I thought the NCO was being callous but really he’s in the same boat as the other men. In many ways, I think his gruff attitude helps to give a business as usual air and prevents self pity or moping
In the country I am from, they showed this video over and over again in 80s on TV. Sad that the world did not learn to play the "Pipes of Peace", what a difference it would have been then and now.
Today, when they are trying to create another world conflict to lead the whole humanity to a digital slavery, this video looks way more profound than it looked years back, I'd say. We people do not need wars, we have to stop 'doing our job' just because we get payed. It's time to open our eyes and realize that the whole situation in the world depends on everyone of us! While we live our lives like blind mindless sheep we'll be treated as such, tortured, killed, fed with whatever shit they like us to feed, etc. It's time to wake up and the video just shows that the history is cyclic, we are in the same point as 100 years ago, just on another level of brutality. I hope it's also another level of our awareness...
I was 10 when this song and video came out and and saw it for the first time on tv. My older brother, who used to pull my leg all the time by the way, knew of my love for all things Beatles, saw that I loved the song and the clip, so gifted me with the Pipes Of Peace LP for my birthday. Sweet memories 😊
Love this song. One thing I'm a bit confused about, does the British soldier have the German soldier's letter at the end? I saw German words on it (I don't speak German, but know a couple of German words)
I simply love this song, thank you so much Paul for so many years of music being heard by human beings, I love you! Amadeu Sacchi from São Paulo - Brazil
I simply love this song, Paul is a genius! Thank you so much Paul for so many years of the best music ever heard by human beings. I love you! Amadeu Sacchi from Brazil
