Thanks pal! I’ve been trying to do this for a couple of weeks but was often getting a pop as it ducked. I had the VCA patched incorrectly but now it works a treat.

Awesome video! Modulate all the modulators! Since the topic of ring modulation vs amplitude modulation came up, basically, ring modulation is "through zero" amplitude modulation.
@GeorgeLocke

AFAICT, the original diode ring is actually a switched modulator.

Very informative video. I've been trying to achieve this same effect on my moog matriarch but never thought of inverting an envelope. Can't wait to try it out!

Your demonstration reminds me of a question I wanted to ask someone who knows more than I do: if I want to apply an envelope with a fast attack to filter cutoff, but I'd also like to have the cutoff slowly modulated with a slow LFO, would I do that with a VCA or an adder / summer?
@Trickeyshoe13
@Trickeyshoe13 Год назад
id say some sort of adder would do the job, could also prob get something similar with a vca

Make Noise Maths is a very complicated module for me to wrap my head around, if I were to just plug something into it and then learn by listening. I’m thinking that’s because it has a normalization scheme that’s not so obvious to me. So mainly channels 2 and 3 are for inverting and attenuation, I guess. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS, VERY HELPFUL AND USEFUL!! Setting this up right now to give it a go. I’m looking out for some simple module schematics, for diy and learning a little about op amp circuit designs. This gives me some good stuff to search for. THANKS AGAIN!!

I've been thinking on this. Shouldn't you be able to achieve the same result without an inverter in you VCA, just by inverting the EG?.

I’ll have to try this, not one week passes when there’s not newer firmware that I need to DL for the Disting. Expert Sleepers have some very hearty modules when it comes to computer / daw integration and modular I/O.

Is that a Pauline Oliveros zine on the right? Anything interesting inside?
@AnalogAnalogies
@AnalogAnalogies 5 лет назад
That's for sure Pauline Oliveros. It's one in a series of notebooks that Moog produced for NAMM 2017 after a number of synthesists passed away the previous year. It's empty inside, with small graph paper for taking patch notes. :)

You need an expander for that quadra it opens it up to make it a whole new module closer to a Maths

I am currently trying to set a sidechain up for the lil Erebus module and the mother32 alike. I want it triggered by an actual kickdrum so I just duplicate the kick signal - easy enough. The Audio of the Kickdrum then goes into the Ladik E-510 Env follower. The new env curve goes into both channels of a 2hp attenuverter (having control knobs for the cv bias helps regulating the amount of ducking that will later happen). From there on I can just take one of the inverted outputs into the VCA in of the mother, goal achieved. For the lil erebus (and all the other Erebus, V1, V2 & V3) it's slightly more complicated. When you plug something into the vca it bypasses the AR envelope of the amp (in the lil erebus even isn't a Amp envelope to begin with). Therefore I am using a 2hp EG and 2 channels of a 2hp mix to sum the envelope for the amp with the inverted kickdrum envelope. Then I am sending this into the VCA in of the lil Erebus. This is all theoretical for now, but I think it will work. And the whole setup is only 10hp (excluding the kick module). I really wish however, that there was a dual/quad vca with gain (so like the A 135-1) but also with an inverter on the cv input. That would save me all the troubles in the world.

How does one do this patch if they do not have a mod input on their VCO ?
@AnalogAnalogies
@AnalogAnalogies 6 лет назад
YourBestChess Now : Hey! I think you'll want a mixer that outputs into your VCOs v/oct pitch input. You'll want to run your melodic sequence into a channel of the mixer at full volume/intensity, and your percussive envelope into another channel with intensity adjusted to taste. The two signals will be added together, similar to what separate inputs on a VCO would do behind the panel. Mixers are great for adding multiple modulation sources to filters as well, much like many classic hardware mono synths! (Envelope, LFO, and keyboard.)

Nice idea and cool sounds. This would be a cool way to control the scale type and root note of a quantiser.. or a multi channel VC clock divider (eg Ladik S-060)... Damn, now I want that and a Pressure points.... and a brains..... and a new case......

Really appreciate your video and description of this patch. I copied this and it sounded really good, except for some reason my SQ-1 would go completely nuts sometimes, the triggers just get into a really fast crazy loop and I found it difficult to keep it stable, even with long rise and fall settings. Still, fun patch to play around with :)
@AnalogAnalogies
@AnalogAnalogies 6 лет назад
stateazure That's really cool to hear. Regarding the SQ-1 going whacky: you may need to change the Sequence Step Resolution to quarter notes. You can do this by holding the play button and turning on the power. Set the Sequencer Mode knob to the first squiggly mode. Press power again and the unit will start up with this new setting. When it receives a trigger at Sync In, it'll hopefully just advance one note at a time. I may be wrong; I don't remember how I did it here! But I hope that helps, and I hope it works for ya.

Hey, again pretty great stuff - can you recommend speakers and headphones for Eurorack? Outer than that do you use an external mixer and if so, can you recommend one?
@AnalogAnalogies
@AnalogAnalogies 6 лет назад
DJ Free Heya, thanks again! I must admit, my knowledge regarding studio monitors and headphones is sorely lacking. You may be better served by a forum in this case. I have a small external mixer in storage, but I'm not currently using it. But with that said, if you have any of the gear you mentioned, and it works for you and you like it, don't be afraid to integrate it with a Eurorack system! It'll work just fine, you don't need anything to special to get started. Just don't forget that an audio output will typically be very loud. 🔊
@djfree5435
@djfree5435 6 лет назад
Hey, awesome stuff man! Which sequencer did you use? Does your method work with any cv/trigger sequencer and even with standard envelopes? All the best from Austria!
@AnalogAnalogies
@AnalogAnalogies 6 лет назад
DJ Free Thanks so much, and great questions! The sequencer is the Korg SQ-1, but any sequencer that has pitch and gate/trigger will work. I'd definitely encourage trying this out with a standard envelope; the results may be a bit different, but you'll find something good for sure. 👍
