You don't specify the pad you used or say if the sander is on random orbit or direct mode. You don't say how many coats or time between coats. Why did you even bother?
Hi Robert, In the video we are using a white pad. Pads come in various colours such as white, red, green and black. The information on how many coats (2-3 coats) and time between coats (8-10 hours) is written on the label of the can. For best results we'd suggest the direct mode on your Rotex. We also have another video on TopOil application on our channel as a Festool Rotex is not our primary application method so this video serves as only brief overview. If you still have questions after watching our videos please feel free to call our toll-free line at 1-844-OSMOCAN and we'll be happy to assist.
This is my first time to know about this product on RU-vid today. Do we really need that polishing machine with white pad or we can use white cloth ( 100% cotton) to finish manually? Thanks
Hi, You don't need any machine for application. Just wear latex gloves and apply with roller or paintbrush or just with cotton cloth. Try wipe it into wood. After furst application let dry and smooth with sand paper or sand sponge approx 180 - 240 or finer. Then second application. And sometimes third if require really strong protection. Let dry 24 in plus 20 C between layers. This is perfect , forgiving lot material. When you smooth right way you may enjoy really smooth wood surface like car painting. Hope it helps.
I have a new oak kitchen worktop so far with 2 costs of Danish oil. I've heard that this is better so rather than continue to apply Danish oil I'm thinking of switching to this. Do I need to sand the worktop before application?
I understand it says for use on table tops but will this product be durable enough for a coffee table that gets excessive wear and may have water/beer/wine spilt on it? Also is machine for the pad necessary or can hand rubbing be as quality?
Hello Old North Designs! Thanks for reaching out! The applicator pad that is used in the video is our Osmo 8" Circular White Pads (akin to a white Scotchbrite pad)
Hello Horse Rider! Thanks for reaching out! We just mean that our product goes a long way, and you need to make sure you don't over-apply. You should apply thin coats. Make sure you can't still make swirly marks on the surface with your finger to check that you don't have excess product on the surface.
@@simon895 Hi Simon. Please do not allow the TopOil to sit on the surface and penetrate like conventional oil-based products. If you do this, the finish will begin to dry after 20-30 minutes and become tacky and will no longer be buffable as you have experienced. Osmo is engineered to penetrate deeply into the wood fibres the instant it touches the wood. After 20 minutes it will begin drying rapidly so that the finish is completely dry within 8-10 hours. Please follow the video and buff the finish directly into the wood thinly and evenly. Do not allow it to sit for prolonged periods like you would Linseed Oil or Tung Oil. Hope this helps.
how does this stand up to moisture rings from a cold glass? I've currently got Danish oil on my work top but my nephew keeps leaving his cold drinks on the side and I keep getting black rings. would this stand up better than Danish oil?
Hi Chris. Very well - Osmo TopOil is specially formulated for countertops, tabletops and food preparation surfaces. In addition to being food-Safe and safe for use on children's toys, our products are also tested according to German Industrial Norms for resistance to beer, water, red wine, and cola. If any damage does occur, Osmo Spray Clean as well as Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner products are designed to remove stains as well as repair the surface.
Hi MrHmiko, We do not reccomend to dilute our products since Osmo TopOil is delivered ready-to-use. If an extra thin oil is required for things such as exotic wood species though, we suggest to use Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin 1101, where once again there is no diluting required. Hope this is helpful.
