This jam was very popular in Africa. It always gives the shivers as fond memories are evoked. It’s a relaxing time-travel vehicle that sends one down memory lane to those wonderful days of innocence in the early 80s. I often heard this blared from a record store on my street in Ajegunle - Lagos, especially in the mornings on my way to primary school. The musicianship of Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, Justo Amario, Abraham Laboriel, etc., blended well with the golden ambiance of the rising sun, and it became the comforting soundtrack that lessened the apprehensions I had as I walked to school.
Todd wrote it, made it a hit, and then a few years later, it was also recorded by England Dan, and John Ford Coley, and it became a hit all over again! I like both versions.. no preference. I kind of grew up on England Dan (Seals) and John Ford Coley's version... but listened to this one, and loved it. It's growing on me. You can definitely tell Rundgren's musical influence on such acts in the 70's as Hall & Oats. Daryl Hall gets some of his vocal 'style' from Todd's pitch changes, and the list goes on from there. This man has had an immense impact on popular music. I'm amazed that it took as long as it did, to get him inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of fame. He was certainly long overdue.
Had only heard this song sung by England Dan & John Ford Coley--over several decades! But recently I've been hearing the "Utopia" version on my car radio. I thought it was basically a cover until today--I heard something familiar in the lead singer's voice. Omg--can't believe it was the amazing Todd Rundgren--a truly unparalleled singer/songwriter👏🤩!!
I grew up in the early 80's in Benin City, Nigeria listening to this song on the radio in the mornings while my parents prepared me and my siblings for school. Such a composition masterpiece till this very day!
Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour...this track mountain dance is more than music art.. 43 years since I first heard it at our local radio station....it still feels like it just dropped....each time I want to get high, I get high on mountain dance....pure class... U can't have this type of ingenious work twice. Advertisers delight in jingles. If royalties were to be collected accordingly, this track would have topped the chart from revenues from advert jingles
MIKE❤❤❤🥺🥺🙏🙏🙏
