Back in 1988 I went through most of this cave when 1st Derwent Sea Scouts had a weekend with the MoleCreek Scouts and we started from the top and due to the water level we couldn't make it all the way.
Good call, I went through claustral in similar conditions in the 90's. Keyhole was blocked and we abseiled off the top. Thunder was interesting with the usual route undoable. Picked up more bruises that day than every other trip combined.
if you can be bothered carrying a garmin too, this is why they're great, you can give more info/communicate via text what and how serious the problem is.
These videos along with cave diving videos are so much more scarier then any horror film or true crime video out…. You have to be bat shit crazy to gamble your life like this!
Absolutely amazing response from emergency services!!! I do wish someone had sat the young girl with the red backpack down and asked her if she was ok though. She must have been exhausted and probably in a slight state of shock when she was giving her report to the rescue team. But again, an amazing response from everyone! Top job!!!
Can’t believe I’ve only stumbled upon this video now. I have also attended the conference that year but had no idea this video was being made. Amazing video. Shared it to my family. - FUSSI member
fascinatingly scary to be in that sort of situation. I didn't even know about this cave here in NSW Australia, until i searched for cave flooding caught on camera. Thanks for sharing this for all to see.
I have no problem with small holes and squeezing when it gets longer its a little bad but my only question is like what if you get lost you will die and literally you will never be found again
