One of the most popular programmes on British television, covering five decades of broadcasting and producing over eleven hundred editions.
The programme's premise was simple - an unexpected surprise for an unsuspecting subject as the host opened the Big Red Book to reveal a life story told through a reunion of family and friends. Part biography and part celebration, each edition aimed to entertain in a warm hearted and positive way.
At the peak of its popularity, in the 1970s and 80s, audiences of up to, and sometimes more than, 20 million viewers regularly tuned in every Wednesday at 7pm in anticipation of whose name would be embossed on that week's Big Red Book...
This RU-vid channel is an expanding collection of EXCLUSIVE interviews with former subjects of This Is Your Life, as well as friends and relatives who took part in the show - creating a growing digital archive of first hand behind-the-scenes stories and recollections.
He’s so sweet! How do you not wanna give him a hug. It’s always adorable to see the guests reactions to being surprised by their friends and family and by the big red book.
Never knew Peter was married to Janet Brown! She was a brilliant impressionist and comedian! And doesn’t Tyler have a wonderful mix of his dad and mum’s looks! And as charming too!
Many years ago when she was on "Junior showtime" in Leeds Bonnie sat and kept my friend and his band company - he never forgot that- she deserves all the success that she has gained now and will achieve in the future !

Champagne and Roses I live part of the time in Estepona and I would love to meet Gerald . We all loved him in our family .. Warm kind regards Adrian Fawcett.
Gerald is delightful I met him in Blackpool at a Convention and he signed some Adam Adamant things for me, he posed with my Swordstick-delightful, and he was in The Dambusters as the RAF Officer who starts a riot ! Marvellous Actor, hope he is well.
I think the first time I saw her was in ‘The Lady Vanishes’, and then in ‘The Backroom boy’, with Arthur Askey. It seemed to me whether or not she had a large or small part she had the audience eating out of her hand. I was impressed with John McCallum in ‘The Long Memory’, with John Mills and Elizabeth Sellars. A lot of talent.
I'm from Belfast too, and I grew up watching Sam, who seemed to be in everything. I was pleased to learn back then, that he was from here. Rest in peace mate, and thanks for all the entertainment you gave me growing up. I wish you rainbows.
Long life and good health to this lovely man. He played James Hadleigh to perfection, all episodes I’ve recently re-watched here on RU-vid. This calibre of actor will never be seen again and no amount of Oscars, Grammies, Tony’s etc can create them either!!
So glad i clicked on this - I was all set to watch the This Is Your Life broadcast again but this i had never seen and it was really quite pleasant to listen to
Should have had all those amazing people he worked with. I saw Sam Kydd in a cinema in Hastings in the 60's or 70's...the memory is a bit iffy on this.. I think he was with his family. I was a big fan because he always showed up in so many movies. We would watch a film and as soon as he came on the screen we'd shout "SAM KYDD". I wanted to speak to him and say how much I enjoyed seeing him in movies and on TV but when the movie we were watching finished I turned around and he had gone. So disappointed.
