I lived in Gunnison for five years. During that time I was a campground host for two seasons, and worked at a hardware store doing appliance installations. In doing appliance installs we were sent to install in some pretty odd places sometimes. In several locations the places were fenced off with no trespassing signs and warning signs -even though it was a public forest road. The nearby owners put up a legit looking fences to keep people away. The forest service would go and rip them down because of firefighting access, but that would only last until they left. There are a lot of those “fake” fenced roads in the Baldwin and Fairview areas. BTW if they wanted an appliance installed we would warn them that if a gate keeps us out then they would have to install the appliance themselves and charge them a delivery charge for the effort.
Jeff, do you have more of this video or the convention? I worked with Mark at this convention and the video cut off just as I was about to be in the video with Mark.
No, this was the whole video that I captured that day. I was meeting a friend of mine who was actually inside the Robot. I had just walked in with video camera ready and captured the scene. I get a lot complaints on this video because of the background noise, but didn't have time to set up microphones, etc.
- Never cared for the look of that robot (looked like a jumbled mess, with everything & the kitchen sink slapped together) Until this clip. - Now it looks like I'm waiting for dazzling fireworks to go off! Still a garbage can on wheels, not functional but a dazzling light show when it goes off!
Dirceu Rodrigues. BRASIL.( obs: Durval de Souza.)
Hi Jeff. Do you live near there or know the owners? I'd love to metal detect that creek bottom. Most folks don't like metal detecting their property (especially historical property such as this), but don't seem to troubled about metal detecting in a creek. I live very close by.
I only live about 2 miles from this. I would absolutely be over the moon to metal detect something like this. I believe Tarnwood is right in the same area as well. At one time, I think Whitehall road used to be the original path for US 250. Lots of history right in this area.
Looks like you lucked out. When I went to the CW and had my carriage ride I think my ride was much shorter and didn't loop around twice like your ride did.
Ohhhhh the Robot recreation is a thing of beauty. That is art ! I am mesmerized by it's every movement and flashing lights and love the sounds of his sensors / transistors processing. Loved this B-9 Robot since I was a kid when all the kids thought him real and we all wanted the Robot as our friend.
Thanks for not taking a boring zoomed in video of the eclipse like everyone else. The surrounding light and reactions are so much more interesting. This also helped answer my question if the metallic light was the same before and after totality....it appears it is the same.
Right, stop your video at 11 seconds or so, that is the light. I always described it al "metallic," but obviously open to interpretation since it doesn't exist on earth outside of a solar eclipse.
I was there in Glendo myself for the eclipse. I would liken the difference in lighting more like the difference you can see between fluorescent lighting compared to incandescent lighting or maybe another type of lighting. What I want to know is at the 27 second mark, did the guy on the left see shadow bands in the white blanket? He is pointing to the blanket for some reason.
Mark Goddard is a super nice guy. He was fun to hang around with the whole weekend and he told me some cool stories about the show when we had lunch. He would come and visit us in the Robot Room and talk to us and all the fans. He really made that convention special and I appreciate the time I got to spend with him. Thanks also to Craig Reinbrecht who built that robot which has got to be the most accurate and amazing replica of the original to date!
My apologies, in the 70s I lived in the Springs and had a friend Terry Frank. She and I were pretty good friends and I thought that might have been her, again I am sorry!
That particular Model X had been on test drives all morning and early afternoon. We drove it ten miles before doing the 0-60. If not 3.2 seconds, it was definitely in the 3 second range.
I know, I was thinking the same and that person laughing in such a fake way. I had to turn the sound off because that stupid loud laughter was ruining it.
