I was a ride operator in 1974; this was my least favorite to ride assignment. The looping song, "The Happy Friends who Live in Our TV", is still stuck in my brain (think "It's a Small World"). But I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. Thanks for sharing!
4:20 Richmond, Cincinnati, and Charlotte = Kings Dominion, Kings Island, and Carowinds. Also love how they mention how Charlotte and Cincinnati have the same nickname (Queen City)
Obviously the 'Enchanted Voyage' was modeled-on 'It's a Small World' at Disney, yet no wonder the attraction was limp in its delivery. Given the time Hanna-Barbera was still riding high on their Saturday morning cartoon faire of Scooby-Doo, SuperFriends, Yogi Bear and even the Flintstones, those were golden years for the animation company. I worked at CWL in 1984 when the Smurfs and their permanently staining blue ice cream made their appearance. The idea never really clicked with the public as the Smurfs were viewed by parents as shallow and not entertaining enough on the same scale as what Hanna-Barbera offered over the previous 20 years. The 'Phantom Theatre' was an absolute improvement, but 'Boo Blasters' took the Ride back to its limp-wristed origins.
The theming is poor in the ride and there is no story. It’s honestly an insult to even name after DarCastle. Think of it the ride as Spirit Halloween: The Ride. However the coaster itself is fine and fun and launches are a bit punchy. Reminds me of Backlot Stunt Coaster
The song for Enchanted Voyage is titled "Happy Friends". Also, The Jetson's were not part of the ride, and the only Flintstone was Fred hiding with a sign reading 'Beware' in the spooky scene's opening.
PLEASE can someone explain. Why the signage saids to "listen at 137.00mhz"?! I can't find the answer. That isn't even a U.S. civilian frequency. Plus how the hell is the average person to listen on that frequency? I found this vehicle on TT and yet nobody is asking the obvious question.
Great memories! The Enchanted Voyage was on the level of a Disney dark ride. The earworm of a soundtrack and the animatronics were very advance for 1972. I only rode the Smurfs reskin once and that was the last time I been in that building.
