do you know if scrabble engines take advantage of transpositions (a chess term that indicates positions that can be reached by multiple different move orders)? i kinda feel like "moves that score the same amount and don't interfere with my plays" would be an interesting transposition heuristic for scrabble engines, if only in endgames
Great question. Transposition heuristics don't really seem useful to me in Scrabble outside of the endgame, since the goal of Scrabble is not to checkmate, but to outscore. The concept of "interference", similarly to chess, is complex, since maybe your opponent isn't interfering with your plan, but their plan is stronger and must be stopped. The equivalent in Scrabble is creating a threat that must be addressed, regardless of score. The algorithm would have to understand the danger levels specific to the position at hand, and although there are clearly plays that "don't accomplish anything new", I don't know how useful it would be to track for those plays as an engine. As for the Scrabble endgame, transposition is extremely important, since some endgames have billions, if not trillions of possible moves in them. So an engine very much needs to parallelize as efficiently as possible to get to the correct answer in a reasonable amount of time, after an exhaustive search. Currently there is only one engine that might have been able to solve this endgame as fast as Nigel did, although it's possible for engines to be fairly confident that something is solved in a shorter period of time. That's similar to how humans, Nigel included, process these things.
There's like... 200 cuts in this, 1 after another. They're really small, but I noticed them all. You're clearly reading from a script, so instead just fill the screen with graphics instead of making a cut every 5 seconds. Half the time it happened MID SENTENCE. You stopped talking mid sentence because you forgot what your script said and cut out that time. Point is, put more effort into these videos. Yes this is hate comment.
heh... don't worry I've gotten better! I think most of this video was refilmed because it took me like a month to put it all together and I needed the takes to at least seem like they were done the same day. It wasn't effort that was lacking, it was experience :)
I was wondering the other day if someone had ever attempted to play something like this is a match seriously. Not quite what I imagined lol, but still interesting nonetheless. There have definitely been times I have seen my best word as being something incredibly crass/crude and decided on playing something else for everyone's benefit lol.
I thought "If you had the rack RSTUVW?, then the only starting play that gives you a bingo is LI with the I on the center square, which gives you the bingo of LIVeRWURST", but I forgot about the extra R.
If you think about it this can happen in any live game, and it actually happens far more frequently at sporting events, and not because of some strange coincidence either

My guess at the thought process is that DIABETE looks like it might be "one who has diabetes" (pronounced "diabeet"), rather than "singular of DIABETES".
My best word was a triple- triple "explication," with the "p" and "cat" available. Hilariously, she had played "cat" to block a triple through the "p." Thank goodness it wasn't poker 'cause I couldn't've stopped that smile with a face mask 😂
Kudos to you for wanting to make high quality videos - but always remember that you shouldn't let the "perfect become the enemy of the good." A video that is "good enough" is better than no video at all.
I not only missed the A column at the end, but when I played TIME I missed ATHEISM / AID for 102 on the A column! Definitely a rushed turn. Congrats again for winning that very uphill battle.
I might just be a crazy person but if you posted full vods here or on a separate channel I would totally still watch them. Rosen’s vods channel is one of my favorites, I love putting them on late in the evening or while I’m working
@@Truthmane1 it's a secret recipe that is just meant to quickly illustrate around how well a game was played, but it's based on finding the moves that are clearly suboptimal via analysis.
