I really agree and appreciate this discussion! I was a perfectionist at work, with great anxiety. I pushed constantly past my physical and spiritual limits. I hadn't found the Plum Village practice yet. Additionally, my workplace was unfortunately a toxic one. Additionally, I was in night school. Unsurprisingly, I ended up with a chronic illness and not working at all. But it did allow me the incredible time.and opportunity to find Plum Village, Thay, and the wonderful brothers and sisters! It is important to pay attention to the body's signals that it needs to rest and that too much stress isn't good for both mind and body. Thank You! Great talk!
I feel a deep connection with you, Brother. I can relate so much with your initial craving for a way which would allow spirituality and secular rationality/scientific evidence to somehow coexist and make sense.
Dear Thay, Dear Marcus, Dear Sangha, This is a beautiful heart opening story, it resonates deeply for me personally and many other beautiful beings will find solace here too. I promise this one action also. My gratitude and humble thanks to the transmission of Thays teachings. Peace, understanding and love are the only pure actions of body, speech and mind. 🙏💚 Stay in the light and cascade peace brighly.
Thank you for such a wonderful talk! I totally agree about the role of monasteries. They provide spiritual and pastoral support so others can do their work. The social support they provided was missed terribly when the monasteries were dissolved. A lot of the problems with modern secular beliefs are the lack of structure, no extended family, no church or help if things go wrong. It leads to loneliness and depression. So I more than agree that spiritual beliefs that people with scientific outlooks can agree with are vital. They need somewhere to go on retreat and need to see videos like this! Thank You!
Plum village has my full support as a place of minfulness and spirituality. Thank you for being there. When it comes to Christian monasteries though, it brings up questions. How can we trust that a religion, which has committed so many atrocities (magdalene sisters, child abuse, abuse of women, supporting colonialism and war, destroying indigenous communities, etc...) ? I would only feel comfortable supporting christian monasteries if there is a real and deep transformation and reconnection to true healthy roots of spirituality that are free from patriarchy. Not to say that there haven't also been wonderful, spiritual christian people but we can't ignore the fact that the institution and culture as a whole has been deeply corrupted. At least, that is my current view.
Thank you Br Spirit for this talk and all the work you and Monastics do to create a refuge and support lay practitioners and others to find peace and insight within themselves. May the Being Peace Centre UK manifest so this benefit can reach and ripple out to more people ☺️🙏
