The story of our journey to living in Portugal, you will be able to watch the buying process and all our renovations, learn what works, what doesn't and how we cope with all of this in our retirement...
Oh dear. Well at least you’ve identified all the damaged areas in one go. Just need to work your way through them as best you can. I hope you don’t have any more to add to the list though. Look forward to seeing you resolve the issues. It’s all part of the adventure 😊👍
Thanks. We have a few more to upload. Off to northern Ireland in 2 days for a week so there may be a short lag in posting. Going back to Portugal in 4 weeks.
Thanks for putting these sort of details in. It gives my husband and I a glimpse of what to expect if we choose to drive over. We need to update our passports as we plan on visiting Portugal in October. Hopefully we’ll be able to have a good look round for some property whilst we are there 🤞
We drive from North West to Plymouth (4.5 hours off peak time), 22 hours on boat then 8 hours to our place in Central Portugal. Buy your toll road ticket just over the border from Spain. Toll registration point Portugal. Grid Ref: 40.604524151779806, -6.949601681608116
Hello, I’ve just started watching your videos. I’m looking forward to following you on your journey. I’ve been searching for properties online myself. Is the farm next door for sale? What would be your step by step guide for someone looking to follow your footsteps and take the leap from Britain to Portugal? Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this comment 👍
Hi, thanks for connecting. What area are you looking for a house? We have several contacts at estate agents that have since become good friends, perhaps we could introduce you? There are several properties near us for sale. Let me know what you are looking for and if you plan on visiting Portugal to view. We are in UK at the moment, due to our business needs but travel back mid August and are taking our caravan out with us this time to leave on the land.
Postcard #1. Invest in a consultation with an architect or a structural engineer. Not necessarily cheap, but always cheaper than having the roof fall in. Postcard #2. The architect might suggest a steel beam to support the span. That could work to give you a nice clear lounge space while being (relatively) simple & inexpensive.
Thanks for the tips, I will see if there is a local structural engineer when out there in August (next trip) and do some homework on steel beams and where to source in Portugal.
@@retireportugal You may already be aware of them (& they have no idea that I giving your their names, or even who I am); but these are some other British RU-vidrs in Central Portugal who might be able to point you in the right direction: Dan & Meriad of "Nearby Veggies" have mentioned working with an architect, as have Bea & Theo of "The Indie Projects." Omar & Andrea of "The Indigo Escape," & Nicky & Victoria of "Live By Living" has apparently also worked architects &/or structural engineers. Nick of "Project Portugal" is a (quasi-)former builder who has helped out a couple of other RU-vidrs with advice, & occasionally barters his skilled labor unskilled labor, farm produce, I'm not sure what else.
Hello, I just found you my mothers family is from Portugal and I live in Long Beach, California one day I would love to go there. It would be nice if I can also live there in my own property I have now become a follower of your channel and I will see your progress in buying your dream property, bye for now Rosemary🌹
Hi Rosemary. Thanks for your message. We plan on posting lots more video when we return to Portugal in August. I still have a few to post from our last trip so keep your eye out for them this week. If you are ever near Moita pop in for a beer . Belinda and I would welcome the visit. 😁
My guess is you know there is another RU-vid channel called Project Portugal established about 2 years before this channel. Nobody seems to use the term 'journey' in their channel title, but if I was there and had a RU-vid channel I'd use it. Congratulations on buying your property.
Great tour of your property, would be even better if you filmed in landscape mode ! Good luck with getting the work done. Looks like it will be really nice.
Hi Mike, we are trying to buy all the land at the back and build a space for a wooden cabin. Lots of ideas for inside the house and will probably put in spiral staircase to connect top to bottom. Cheers Rob
@@retireportugal Morning Rob That was my first thought joining top and bottom. Also converting pig sty next to garage? To a one bed apartment (I'm a builder, electrician) . We are still looking at properties we viewed in the summer and I have one im really keen on near gois , but not 100% sure yet. Please keep in touch and check out our channel, portugalista a journey. Regards Mike
@@michaelsanderson6836 Hi Mike Thanks for the email, we will take a look at portugalista. We should meet up for a drink next year. We plan on flitting from our house in UK and the house in Moita, probably a month in each when we get into a flow (we are still both working at the moment). I hope to update the flipbook on www.project-portugal.co.uk this weekend but we do have all the kids and grandkids round so may be delayed a week. Cheers Rob
@@michaelsanderson6836 Yes we had a bit of a nightmare. With power of attorney and legal process. Drop me an email to rtbuk@mail.com and I will send you my mobile number. Perhaps catch up this weekend?
