What a curious thing. I've never seen or heard of this show, what a strange thing to have Langan on, trying to win money by fielding pop culture questions? The people seemingly acting animal like in their faux excitement is kind of nightmarish. Then, Langan wanting to utilize a group response for help is curious. A bit surreal.
At a first glace it looks like he made a miscalcuation by opting to use his last help when it should have been obvious that the answer was 'What' after having used the first help. The rules stated that one contestant got it right and one got it wrong. First contestant says he absolutely knew the answer but pressed the wrong button, which was 'Who'. That means the first contestant absolutely thinks he knows the answer is 'What' The second contestant said he took a guess and chose 'What'. It only makes sense that first contestant chose the wrong answer and second chose the right one. Here is where it gets interesting: he got suspicious when the host knew beforehand that the contestant had pressed the wrong button, by asking 'and you chose that answer because?' They pulled a trickery to outsmart the genius.
The host always asks the Mob member why they chose their answer. The Mob member must be honest regarding the answer they chose, but they do not need to be honest about WHY they chose their answer.
He may be the smartest guy around - I just don't get how he couldn't figure it out when left with the two choices of Who and What. The name of the routine is "Who's on First?" So, it's not Who. Therefore, it would have to be What. No pop culture background needed. Just logic.
I suspect that he intentionally burned his last help to earn a “Sneak Peek” at the next question. Had he not used his last help, he would have had to risk his money to see the next question.
