Correction: 6 compartments where breached Edit: just incase people don't know which compartments where breached The forepeak tank, cargo holds 1-3, bolier room 6 and the coal bunker of bolier room 5
No, this is wrong. The reason lifeboats were removed was because they wanted to add the Welin Quadrant davit, which wouldn't fit if they had the initial amount of lifeboats. The Welin Quadrant davits were a *good* idea, and removing the lifeboats was a good decision at the time. Remember; most ships sunk on their side back then so being able to lower lifeboats as your ship was beginning to roll over was an amazing innovation.
@@amaritineenthusiast I think I got it right. If they were gantry davits, they would have less space to work with, but they still removed lifeboats so the passengers could have a better view of the ocean.
@@Tommy55_official The Welin Quadrant Davits would not have had room if they added more. Regardless, the thing about wanting an open promenade is still wrong.
Thomas Andrew actually suggested that she would carry 44 lifeboats but upper management for her overruled him and only equipped her with a mere 20 lifeboats
Thomas Andrews wasn't the one who made the suggestion though, it was Alexander Carlisle. And keep in mind these lifeboats were removed so they could fit the Welin Quadrant Davits, which at the time were rightfully seen as being safer.
