I'm 40 and got the Genesis version for Xmas that year it came out, along with the Genesis 6 button fight stick. Genesis version is more faithful to the arcade and includes CPS-1 chain combos which the SNES does not. The Genesis version is a lot uglier and has much worse sound though.
Not a great comparison this. There is quite a difference between both versions in color. Back in the 90s, I always thought SNES version was much more vibrant. And so did every kid who played both consoles.
Genesis 6-button controller mattered little as almost nobody owned it (most people use what comes standard in the box). I know I never bought it and having owned both consoles, Street Fighter 2 was better on the SNES overall. What little was missing from SNES versions didn't matter at all in the end. Heck, Capcom even brought forward some of the things to the arcade what they added to the SNES version.
Keep the hate comments up too, haha, that was funny. Great vid, you definitely have a unique style to your videos, keep this up and you'll grow really fast. Interesting game, I had never played it before either, but I can see why its appealing. My first isometric game that's kinda similar in scifi / action / rpg was X-Com UFO defense for PS1. It also has the dpad / cursor issue that can get you killed by a misclick. Thanks again, and keep up the great work.
11:34 the SNES version can go up to 10 stars via a cheat code. I remember the devs said it would be difficult to make a Genesis/ Mega drive version and then original Genesis version was out sourced and supposed to be the Champion Edition without Hyper Fighting but the graphics plus sound were awful and the health bars had black border under it. the version was so bad that Capcom took over the port and because it was delayed so long the SNES version of turbo was soon to be released and Sega wanted parity with the SNES version so Capcom added the Turbo/Hyper Fighting mode and worked around SNES exclusivity of Street Fighter 2 Turbo by renaming it Special Champion Edition.
No, you dare not say the SNES music is better than the arcade! Mega Drive version had a cheat to put speed on the champion edition mode and also had the CPS1 chain combos which are not in any other 16-bit port either.
The first SNES SF2, the one that most people bought, was just original SF2. It didn't have the bosses or mirror match. So when Genesis released their special Champion Edition it was a no brainer. I think the wider color palette was way better on SNES but the music was terrible and not as faithful to the arcade.
I've been imagining a Mario Kart × F-Zero crossover type game for a while. I imagine it would take tons of elbow grease to make it work due to their differing play styles. Perhaps you could switch between the two styles, and balance them to make sure one isn't overpowered?
The SNES ports were better presented but the Genesis port did have a lovely feel to it. However it was rushed - the audio was appalling and some of artwork was poorly executed. There's a cool remaster of the rom out there that fixes a lot of these issues and proves that the Genesis was well able to do a faithful port. The truth is, in the day, by the time the Hyperfighting ports came out on console SF2 was seen as pretty uncool and we were all playing newer more edgy stuff.
Snes wins and thats a fact. Youll still get sega cucksters but deep down they know the snes wins. A shout out to usa version of fatal fury special snes
Fanboy! His argument was defeated by his own video, which showed the Genesis version slowing down. And the Snes version also has 10 stars. But you need to make a code to get 10 stars.
Me quedo con la de sega, la presentación mas parecida al arcade, mas fluido a mas velocidad y obvio los precios entre cartuchos era mucha la diferencia
Segas colors are not limited. It got less colors than the snes, yes, but it actually got more than enough for the games at the time. Its colors are a lot sharper than that of the snes (which is more "pastel" looking). This makes colors pop a lot more on sega games. Which makes street fighter 2 look better on the mega drive. The game plays smoother as well, and the 6 button controller works better than shoulder buttons. The sound chip in the mega drive is very similar to the ones used in the arcade games at the time. Which makes music sound more like they should. The only thing that is better on the snes is the voices. Everything else rocks harder on sega.
One correction: you said that special champion edition is basically turbo and CE on one cart. This is true with the snes port. They’re basically the same game. The normal mode on snes is basically just champion edition
I had the "Special Champion Edition" on SEGA in the 90s and it blew SFII from SNES directly out of the window. Even when the SFIIturbo on SNES came, the S.C.E. was still better. I played it so much. Call me a liar.
