With the stock tires (I have a very similar bike...a '22 XSR900), you can lean the bike as far as you dare, but I daresay that sport touring tires with dual-compound you can just about do the same thing. I personally prefer sport touring or something a tad sportier for both street riding and track days, simply because warm up times in modern street tires is essentially zero. Much more importantly, I have an ABBA lift stand, a Rabaconda tire changer, and a generic wheel balancer. With these, I can change tires quite quickly, with very little down time compared to, say, taking a bike to a motorcycle shop.

The stock S22's that come with the bike are oem spec, aftermarket S22's last a good bit longer. My stock set got 3.5k miles before I replaced them with another set of S22's and I'm at 10k miles now and they still have some life left in them. I plan on trying the S23's next go round.

I use S22's on a 09 R1. Amazing tyre. I drive it to work then head to Brands for the evening sessions and drive it home. Works in all conditions. Rears have 3 compounds and the front has 2 on all S22. People are getting between 4k-8k+ from them. Me personally get about 3 or 4 trackdays in a year and do maybe 3k a year then swap a new pair on when the year starts. If you don't ride hard than get something less grippy. An MT09 is putting out around the same as a gen 1 R1 so should have S22 on it from factory.

Michelin Road5's or 6's will make you happy. Both dual compound so you can't go wrong with either. S22's need cornering, like you said.

well,what a surprise,a sporty road bike came with sporty road/trackday capable tyres. Who would have thought. It sounds like you do indeed need sport/touring spec tyres,either that or find some alternative twisty roads and ride the bike how it was designed to be ridden.

I got 4800 miles out of my s23s on my z900. You should get a cruiser with a wide back tire to keep you in straight line. 😅 The problem is not the tire, nor the bike but you. I bought this tires to hit twisties only.. and god I love those under any weather condition. I already bought my 2nd set.

@BenTV73 get sport/touring tires... road 6s , 5s, angel gts. I get 5k miles out of my front and rear tires but I ride aggressively. The s23s are triple compound but you won't get durability and grip at the same time. Also, if you do fast accelerations it will reduce substantially the tire lifespan... my tires only last me 3-3.5 months and not even that if I do track days.
@BenTV73
@BenTV73 10 дней назад
Hi thanks for your comment. I do say in the video I'll probably be replacing them with the Michelin pilot road 6s but I'm under no illusion that I'll get 10000miles out of them either. Coming from an MT-07 where I did get 10000miles out of the pilot road 5s that were fitted to that bike obviously the 09 has more power so an equivalent tyre still won't give as much mileage but I still think 2500miles is ridiculous to need to change tyres I've barely run it in.

Seems a bit wild to me that this is being highlighted as an issue. I have the original S21 on my 690 SMCR Supermoto which need replacing soon at 3800 miles...I was never under the impression I'd be getting 10k miles out of a sports tyre like this. Gets a sports/supermoto derived bike created for hooning and not touring and is shocked when you need to replaced tyres sooner...wow...

@BenTV73
@BenTV73 24 дня назад
Hi thanks for your comment I'm sorry to hear your woes. I can't really give advice on what you should get as I don't know you personally but what I can say is that the 09 is basically an MT-07 with an extra cylinder, far superior suspension/chassis & an electronics suite. Personally I don't like the 4th gen model, which is why I got the 3rd gen (that & saving £1300 off list), what I would suggest is booking a test ride that'll show you if you like it or not. I can't see how the 09 can be less enjoyable? Whilst the MT-07 is a fantastic bike in my opinion it doesn't hold a candle to the 09 the 09 is more stable more comfortable and well just more having said all that it is also more expensive to run and doesn't look or sound as good as the 07. I wish you luck with your new purchase whatever you decide both are amazing bikes but the 09 is more premium.

Just came across your video and noticed that you're using metal for some of the sliders. Never ever use metal as metal will be harder than the ground it is hittig and it can cause the slider to grip the ground and flip the bike causing even more damage. You always want your sliders to be abrassive resistant, shock absorbent and softer than the thing they are going to impact with otherwise it completly defeats the purpose.
