I think your formula has been really well-thought. I certainly have a bit more items, but I like the idea of your categories: dressed-up, everyday and dressed-down. It covers most situations. Brilliant and simple!❤
I totally get you on wanting all the cute clothes, but also knowing what a huge mental stress that is, it's not worth it. All this year I've been on a no buy and gradually selling and donating clothes because I just have an absolutely overwhelming amount of clothing and I want that mental stress gone, I'm sick of it. Most of my clothing didn't even get worn anyway, so it's just hoarding pretty things at that point. Although I'd like my final wardrobe to be a bit larger than yours (I live in an area with 4 seasons and a long winter), I like the considerations you've made for each category.
I so understand you! I have been in your position before. If you feel like it's time, go for it, and begin that decluttering process! Totally understand needing a bigger wardrobe; this was simply just meant to give some ideas and someone could adapt a few of these principles in their own wardrobes if they found them intriguing!
Please get a mic during the makeup part. The sound is terrible. I had trouble listening. In the other section, it is great. Also, you need to blend the concealer. It’s obvious where it stops and your skin begins. Sorry, couldn’t watch more.
One rule that is easy to follow: shop for specific items as you need them (gap in wardrobe/makeup/homewares or replacing an item). Browsing leads to overconsumption.
as someone who's been trying to live low waste for a few years now, this is basically the same system i've been using as well (except you put it into actual words!)...you're very right about systems changing over time, especially since we change over time...i've had to make my clothing system more flexible in some areas as my style and preferences have changed (i've started wearing pants again after avoiding them for a long time because of sensory issues) and i felt guilty for having to buy new clothes (e.g. job interview clothing) because my system was too rigid and yet missing the essentials at the same time, so it's definitely important to allow yourself some leeway!
I am so glad you appreciated that section of the video! I think it's necessary to have some flexibility as your taste and lifestyle changes over time :)
This is such an interesting concept, Thankyou for sharing. I think I have been doing an informal/unintentional version of this with my wardrobe for years but random clothing items always creep in…formalising a system may just be the piece of the puzzle I need to kick my consumption habit for good!
This is EXACTLY why I produce this content. Honestly, I didn't know if anyone would find it valuable, but comments like these inspire me to continue! I am so glad you found it helpful <3 Thank you for your kind comment!
Really interesting approach to a minimal wardrobe and I really like the fact that you don’t insist that one has to live in blazer and jeans like so many capsule wardrobe videos do. Also yeah to capris 😂
I think sticking with certain proportions for top/bottom by dressiness levels makes total sense! Just curious what laundry looks like for you. I think I would need a few more items, even if they are duplicates. I actually have multiple black tees. I can use your principles to make better sense of my closet :) In reality, it comes down to which silhouettes suit me AND are appropriate for each occasion, and I think you really nailed it! Also, sticking with certain proportions would also simplify shoes and other accessories I suppose?
Thank you kindly! I appreciate you comment :) So I do laundry fairly frequently as a family of three! I think it's totally up to everyone whether or not they want or need duplicates and how much laundry they do! I do have one method that I'll explain in an upcoming video that makes duplicates not necessary for me personally, but honestly, completely understand that each person is going to have different needs when it comes to their wardrobes. :)
I started following the system rule at the beginning of this year when I started my nobuy! I had been thinking about it for a while at the end of 2023 and planning simplified daily routines, but throughout the year I have gradually been removing the things that don't fit into that system. I held on to some things I thought I might need since I had a few big events this summer, so this was a good reminder to get rid of them since I didn't end up using any of them! Also highly recommend the nobuy challenge. @gracenevitt has been doing videos on it that have been really helpful, and has a discord based support group that super active and positive
the nobuy sounds super restrictive and scary, and it does feel like it at first, but it has been so so so freeing for me to not have to worry about *stuff* as much. I have no regrets at all.
Hi! Thanks for letting me know. So with this video I just wanted to convey my makeup formula! I'll do dedicated videos on each of these makeup looks if that's of more interest to you. :)
Hi! I would LOVE additional videos about EVERYTHING else wardrobe wise. I like all the detail and don’t mind the time it might take to add in extra bits of info. Categories such as: Bras Underwear Socks Hats Scarves Swimwear Hair Nailcare and upkeep Outerwear Items for when on menstrual cycle (clothing, sheets, etc) The list can go on, especially when considering other areas of the bedroom, closet, and overall home. Edit: Since this was a comment after just finding your channel I just browsed and you do in fact cover a multitude of topics in this list. Can’t wait for the others!
I’m 45 now so I know it’s never too late but I’m kind of older now…. My teaching career for the last 20 years has drained my life so I would love to retire early and maybe do something else. Thanks for sharing
Hi! I actually reached out the brand to get insight onto this matter, and they sent me a super detailed response. To briefly summarize, the plating can wear off over time with wear and tear, but the base metal underneath is sterling silver. They said the sterling silver will not corrode or rust over time, and any tarnishing can be easily buffed away with a cloth. They also said the best way to retain the rhodium plating would be to not use harsh chemicals, but if you want to re-plate after a few years, you can opt to do so at a local jeweller! Thanks for your comment. It actually helped me educate myself on precious metals and the jewelry I already own! :)
I unfortunately had a terrible allergic reaction to the Elta MD sunscreen. That has never happened to me before but I did some research and found that it was most likely one of the preservatives in the product. I found that others have had the same reaction to it but many people love it. Just something to be aware of!
In recent times I bought alot of korean skincare. Then suddenly I started to really disagree with using these types of products and I wanted more natural products. I want to throw all the stuff away (it gives me break outs) but I feel so bad about wasting money and recources. What to do?? Anyone got tips?
So I am no expert at all...but this is what I would do. Firstly, I would try to isolate what was actually causing my skin harm (breaking me out). Once I found out the culprit(s), I would likely use up the parts of the skincare routine that were okay for me (unless you really feel called towards natural products who I totally understand!); for the rest, if it was possible to properly sanitize them, I would offer them to friends and family who seem genuinely interested in those products (but I would of course let them know of your not ideal experience with them). If no one wanted them, I would dispose of the products that you weren't reacting well to. After they were used up, I would move on to natural skincare products (like you mentioned wanting!). Again, I am by no means a professional or expert or anything, so please take this all with a big old pinch of salt!
Several instances of moving all lumped together in the past decade or so made me want to shift towards minimalism - but the biggest thing was how stressed I now find myself getting if I lose something. It’s pushed me to be so much more intentional about storage, accessibility, visibility, and clutter that is both seen and hidden. I really do struggle with letting go of things though. I get annoyingly emotionally attached to objects -whether they’ve served me well, not served me enough (yet????), were a gift, were a guilty impulse purchase, unfinished projects, unread books… watching inflation go up and up, I struggle to get rid of anything because I don’t want to have to imagine repurchasing something similar if I regret it! 😢
Hi! I think most people (minimalist or not) have dealt with either some or all of those uncomfortable feelings you mentioned. Thank you for sharing your experience! I hope you find a balance between keeping certain items and letting others go that serves you well as you continue on your journey!
This is the first structure for a minimal wardrobe that I can actually work with! Thank you very much. I was wondering about laundry. Would you be comfortable sharing how (often) you wash your clothes? I imagine that I couldn't fill a whole load with as little clothes, since I would want to seperate the lights and the darks and obviousliy trousers aren't in need of as many washes as tank tops are. Would be really interested in that! ...oups. I just realised this moment that you'll probably have plenty of laundry loads in lights and darks with your son! 🙂
That's exactly it! Lots of laundry when it comes to our family as a whole. When it was just me though, I found I could get away with a week to week basis. That being said, I wasn't working out a lot and I'm not a particularly sweaty person; I genuinely think everyone's laundry needs will be different for their different lifestyles!
I like the idea. For me, it would be helpful to have more examples of the systems or some instruction/ „how to“ for setting up a system that suits my personal situation.
That's exactly what I intend on doing in separate videos! So far, I have my makeup and clothing formula updated on my channel, but intend on doing more as time goes on :)
Hi Hanna! While I was a maximalist and have accumulated a lot of stuff, I'm only getting rid of things that no longer serve me. Since I did spend the money, I would like to use them up, lol.... For me, the process will be long and I'm ok with that. I no longer bring things in my life unless it is replacing something and I have no other backups. Like you said, it's about being intentional and that really is the key takeaway. These past two years, I have spent the least amount in my life and I can't tell you how amazing it feels! I don't feel deprived of anything nor do I feel like I'm missing out on the newest and greatest release, lol... Thank you for the encouraging message in your video.
Hello again! Thank you so much for your message! You know what, I think you are very wise. Being a past maximalist myself, I can resonate with what you are saying. I've seen both sides of the fence (holding onto too much and getting rid of too much), and I must admit, a happy middle ground has been the most sustainable and reasonable approach when it comes to my personal journey...and it sounds like that's case the case for you too! Thank you for your thoughtful comments as always <3
again! Hanna! it's very interesting to see your system! i have a similarly thought out framework, but it *is* different. my "athleisure" capsule is all on it's own because i sweat 5x a week, but those athleisure things also cover what i wear in the house.
@@lizasoliman723 oh WOW!!! Thank you kindly :) I love hearing about other people that have a system. You closet sounds so beautiful and functional! I hope it serves you well :)
may this comment serve as a demonstration for another way to formulate one's makeup collection (ie. similar categories, but my way) dress down: brow pencil & gel every day: brow pencil & gel, inner corner highlight, mascara dressed up: brow pencil & gel, inner corner highlight, mascara + lipstick (of which i have 3 shades) total 7pcs of makeup. i do embrace the darkness of my eye area & find that cheek products look comical on my own face 🙃
I absolutely love this!!! That was definitely the underlying intent of the video...for people to thoughtfully consider their makeup collections (if they own one) for a variety of occasions! Your looks sound lovely :)
