As the great Warren Buffett says, invest when people don’t want them and sell to people who want them. I have been buying sealed cases of Japanese Pokémon booster boxes directly from Japan for future investments, especially as you said, the prices have reasonable gone down. I am sure their Super Electric Breaker will kickstart their demand for Pokémon, just like how our Twilight Masquerade leading up to Surging Sparks. Have you done arbitrage from different buying/selling venues? I wonder how effective the price gaps are, as you mentioned it briefly on the video. Your vintage collection project is coming along nicely! 👍
Yeah that is the same dilemma i had too..hence I decide to drop the idea of completing FRLG set. Consolidating ones collection is key knowing what you want like for me I'm a casual collector so I dont believe I have a lot compare to others though for me what I hold means a bit more. But I'm struggling to sell my cards that dont fall in align in my collection and it's tough mentally to do yet probably the most wisest thing in order to do unfortunately😢. For what I'm doing in my Pokemon collection it's mainly kanto/151 stuff cos Pokemon seem to always produce stuff like every era or so plus it's just easy to collect and find. And what I'm currently working on are: 1. Curating my small display shelf collection it's in WIP (modern kanto/151 focus stuff) 2. Master sets - xy evolution, sm hidden fates and Sv 151 (completed btw) and any future sets that focus on kanto/151. 3. Collecting every card for 1 pokemon for me it's Eevee and it's up to date in English only. 4. Start collecting a few slabs. Just recently picked up my grail card champions festival 2019 in a 10 very please😊. Thanks for sharing your tips and collecting journey.
It's weird for me cause I've been putting together a base, Jungle, Fossil japanese 151 set, and its probably gonna end up being cheaper than half the modern sets I'm working on lol
I like your process on buying in batches for the common and uncommon cards. It makes totally logical in the cost perspective. Plus, you can make a deal with the Seller. How much time a day do you spend on this part of the hobby on completing sets?
Prob a couple hours. Just depends… I’ll do a quick check and if I don’t see anything I need I’ll check in later. Thanks, it def has been cost effective.
Very ambitious hunt to complete multiple sets. I don’t know if I can part ways on what I already have to buy/trade cards/sealed. I just shell out new funds. Maybe that is why I haven’t sold or open a single item yet. 😊 Are you keeping track (spreadsheet/app) on how much each set is going to tally up?
Yeah, it’s tough to let go of personal collection items. Sometimes out with the old and in with the new you know… 🙂 It makes the most sense. Some of these cards are so pricey wouldn’t make sense for me otherwise. I’ve been using the Pokellector app. It runs a cost analysis.
Nice vid man. The binder I’ve been slowroll collecting is my fav art for all of Gen 1 + every Gen starter lines. Been fun seeing a blend of generations.

Good point. I’m speaking merely from a collecting standpoint. Some older sets are tough to piece together. The feelings of doing it for me are unmatched. Directly tied to childhood memories. Buying a new set post release after the major dip would be a great idea. I’m toying with the idea of picking up a 151 Set and may start surging sparks. Mostly waiting for the new Rocket release 😮💨🔥
Did you end up buying any of the Playtests? I have a Scyther Beta Playtest coming tomorrow, and I was planning to upload an unboxing video ASAP. Wasn’t sure if you had any come in and were going to do something similar. There’s surprisingly few videos about these cards on RU-vid.

I like the promo card. I can see it being a desirable card long term as Pika usually carries desirable values. I’d prefer the sealed box with stamps. Prob wouldn’t be my first choice though. Ton of other Pika cards that have an increased chance of volatility I.e. 2016 Festas, Ponchos, Championship Cards, Uniqlo promos, art promos, etc…
@@Phantom_TCG oh I see. But I’ve already bought it 😭😭 I couldn’t find any other pikachu promos that are already good for such a good price ( I won a bid for it at $350) . Plus I looked at the liquidity of this card and surprisingly it’s pretty active.
Thanks for opening an Arceus lunchbox. It is good to see some ES packs in ancillary packages that are not overpriced. Do you know if ES are in the Arceus ‘cardboard’ box version? I believe there are a few extra packs inside to offset the lunchbox and other reduction of accessories. I picked up 10 of each awhile back during a discount sale from 1st batch released.
I was stoked to find these! Not sure 🤔 I’d have to look into the cardboard boxes. It’s hit or miss. Tracking the Arceus tins on PokeCenter doesn’t have ES packs… So, some do and some don’t. Def getting harder to find though.
Awesome pick ups! Especially the Champions Festival I'm after the 2019 in English which has a hefty price tag due to the low pop, so I might have to go with Japanese (if you don't mind me asking how much are they on average). Best of luck with the master sets they're great selections looking forward to seeing them especially FRLG as it too was on my list but I decided to drop the idea of mastering the set.
@@hau8372 Thanks! 🙂 Wow, yeah some of the English copies are pricey! I’m after the Japanese 2016. My copies, mostly, are like 3-500 on average. I traded for all 5 World Cards @ like 2800 value I believe.
Do you think the sealed poncho boxes can be worth more than the PSA 10s at some point if people keep opening the sealed? Or is it difficult because of all the scamming?
Sealed often carries a premium. I’d air on the side of yes. I say this because the boxes will only become more rare as they’re opened, the box artwork is superior, and they make any showcase look great. I would be careful though. As you mentioned, there’s a few scammers out there and I’ve seen repacked boxes in circulation.
I like the look of things with Surging Sparks and this set will get me back into the Pokémon space full time again, as the 2nd of S&V block is heating up. I will continue to sit on the sidelines on Paradox Rift, Temporal Forces, and Twilight Masquerade. I missed the boat on Twilight, as price jumped. I decided to pushed the funds toward 151 UPC from Costco. Most likely I will skip both Shrouded Fable and Stellar Crown (I may change my mind depending on how the release goes). I will definitely pickup several Charizard ex Super Premium Collection, 1 x Terapagos ex UPC, and several of the Greninja ex UPC. It looks like an expensive Fall/winter. 😀
@@Phantom_TCG - I have a feeling Surging Sparks will get people back into the hobby. Isn’t it usually the 2nd half of the series block the better half?
@@Phantom_TCG - if history repeats itself (which tends to do so with human behaviour), then Evolving Skies “like set” should be on the horizon. I have to start paying attention to the supply vs demand on the singles after being release, along with pull rates, followed by print runs. This will give us an idea if more sealed booster boxes will be a good idea to hold.
@@johnchan9392 Great points. Have to zoom out and look at it from a macro lens. I’m tracking an Eeveelutions 2.0 style set is on the horizon. That and Team Rocket returning is going to be amazing 🤩👌
Japanese are more detailed. It would also be harder to fake as all the lowlife-scammers are all doing PSA, swapping to ARS is my way to go! It looks good with the metal at the bottom too!
In regards to just content, just do you like this video sharing your pick ups, collection goal and how ya going to achieve it, vlogs and Pokemon news and tips as such dude ..not sure if you have shown your collection display I wouldnt mine seeing that. Btw the channel name 👍 probably more suited as you're a huge gengar fan. Curating a binder of a specific pokemon is a great way to collect and stay focus I've chosen to do eevee english only though. Anyway gonna look out for a southern island set now cheers.😂

I just started a low key binder worthy gengar collection. Selling everything but found like 16 gengars and said fuck it too cool to sell. Picked up like 5 new ones in trades at London card show inc the expedition holo. Slab count way down but gengars going up 😂

Goldin will be awesome to meet. I saw his Netflix two seasons and it will be cool to pick his brain and the team. You have to keep your mind busy to save money. 🙂 I finally got off my 8 months hiatus of pre-ordering/buying any TCG sealed products. Three days ago, I bought the last 6 Pokémon 151 UPC from Costco Canada and they arrived yesterday. I was at the warehouse location yesterday and I saw a pallet full, I was tempted to buy more, as the LCS are selling them 80.00 CDN more. Like you, I need to build up my discretionary funds for Team Rocket and Evolving Skies 2.0. With you vast collection, how are you going to safely transport them back home? How about customs? 7 months and counting. 👍

I believe this has been going on for some time now; one group just decided to put it out in the open and others are just following the bandwagon. We see this all the time, I see one influencer release a money saving strategy video and several more just follow suit. We can see TCG companies changing their card prints to reflect on the CT scanning debacle. There is always one $hit that has to spoil the fun.... for the time being, go with the flow, and let see how this unfolds in the coming months. I am pretty sure this topic is already on Pokémon Company International discussion panel. I rather see this type of technology be used on something more helpful in the medical community instead of cheating on a hobby like trading cards. Some people are just warped minded. My rant is done. As a newer collector i think this is a big disappointment because guys like us will never know if we're getting scammed thinking we're buying untouched og stuff. Only reliable way is gonna be staying up to date on newer packs and buying from reputable sources. No more trust for the og stuff if this becomes too wildly available.
It will also be a way for consumers to verify their vintage packs or box are legit. Thus avoiding a scam. Also Pokemon Int Company will eventually develope a technology were packs will not be able to be see through.
Im sending my packs in. Why not? After being screwed by Metazoo, my favorite content creator not mentioning to sell your metazoo in a video (you) i was disappointed. I need to make a lot of my money back. I was and many others literally robbed by a company and Im okay selling a pack on ebay with what holo is inside. There are only so many vintage packs available for sale these days.
I have many videos explaining Metazoo’s issues and downfall. I backed off of it and explained that. Mentioned I’m selling. My content changed. Every creator that mentioned Zoo mentioned every issue they were going through… Even till this day. You’ve asked me to follow up on it and I’ve said several times it’s on a downtrend/dead and I’ve distanced myself from it. Zoo had a nice run and I enjoyed it. I still enjoy my cards I have left. Wish it lasted longer but they made horrible decisions internally that most would never have guessed. It sucks brother, but I also mentioned Zoo on the many highs it had. On the other hand, paying $75 to guess the holo inside a pack is also steep for most and personally I don’t condone it. But, everyone has a choice. Free market. Def not good for the hobby as a whole though. It could suck decades of fun and collecting out of the market. Imagine a lot of people are frustrated by this.
Im not happy of this new find either. I was actually upset about it. But why not? I should take advantage of whatever is available. Appreciate you man.
