I really enjoyed your review of the curriculum! It looks like you are doing so much. As a new mama starting out with homeschool, how do you go about organizing and implementing all these resources throughout the week? How long does it take?
@@UkieVera hi! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment! I would say as a new mama starting out, to just start with a ‘backbone’ of math and reading/language arts! Once you pick your curriculum/program for each of those, you can add to it later on. Alongside reading and math curriculums, I’d recommend always reading a big stack of books to your child! That’ll help with so much, and it covers other subjects besides reading, like science, history, geography, and more! Later on, you can also add on a little ‘morning basket’ routine, which allows you to cover subjects that are important to you as a family - like Bible stories, Bible verses, art, poetry, music, or seasonal picture books. I have a video up on my channel here about our morning basket routine (from about a year ago), and much of that video is still the same for us now! I hope that helps some! It can be intimidating when it fees like you have to do all the things, but start sweet and simple and add on from there what you feel you can implement next! As far as how long it takes me and how I organize it all, I pretty much just have our homeschool items in a few places downstairs in our house - bins in a kitchen cabinet for our ‘backbone’ subjects, lots of books in the living room, and our morning basket in the living room. Most of what I’ve chosen curriculum-wise doesn’t require me to do much prep. I know some moms love doing all the detailed prep but for me in this season of life, I love being able to open our math and reading programs to the next lesson or page, and just continuing on from there! I do plan out our Five in a Row curriculum because it involves picking a picture book and printing out activities to glue into our lapbooks (I have a video about Five in a Row, too!). Overall, though, our homeschool time is quite ‘open and go’ and I love that! (I spent a lot of time researching curriculum options over the spring and summer, and I keep a spreadsheet of ideas for future grades on my computer. I also prepped our activities binder for All About Reading, which took a few hours and was so worth it!) Hope that helps some! You’ve got this!
We are loving this for my son on the autism spectrum! He is really understanding and reading! He is 7. Math u see has also been amazing! He needed hands on stuff
@@robinriggs4194 oh, that’s wonderful to hear! I love hearing when other people have had experience with the curriculum we’re using! And I’ve heard good things about Math U See, too!
Just found your channel Hannah and I’m loving your Vlogtober! We do CBS too, it’s seriously so good for all the reasons you shared 😊 Seems like we have a lot of other things in common, happy to be here!
@@OldWorldHome aww! Thank you so much! I’m so glad you’re enjoying Vlogtober! And I am so happy to hear you do CBS too! We’ve done both CBS and BSF and I just love that approach when it comes to studying the Bible. How fun that we have a lot in common! I look forward to visiting your channel! Thanks for taking the time to comment! 💗
Thank you for your video! It was so sweet and it’s always fun to see what another homeschool mama’s day looks like! Just a side note regarding your dryer, you may want to make sure your dryer vent duct is cleaned out. It can be a big fire risk and may be why you have to run it for two cycles to get clothes to dry.
Hi! You know, you may be right - I'll definitely look into getting our duct looked at. Thank you for your thoughtful comment! And thanks for watching! :)
Great review! Just wanted to mention that with the flashcards, there should be a little trifold paper in the box that tells you when to put each flashcard behind which divider.
@@valerieacuna6810 oh, I’m so happy to hear that! Thank you for taking the time to comment! I’m glad it helped you and I wish you the best in your homeschooling journey!
Oh man, I was there in that season not too long ago. I had 3 kids back to back to back, so I remember how hard this can be! My youngest is now 5, and thankfully sleep has improved so much for my daughter (and me!). Your advice also applies to homeschool moms with chronic pain that contributed to sleep loss. I have an autoimmune disease which causes chronic joint pain and stiffness and when I’m not on medication I experience significant sleep loss. I’m super thankful that my medicine is currently working, so I’m sleeping fairly well nowadays. Your advice is so on point and will be so helpful to many mamas out there! ❤
@@katrinakim4145 aww, thank you so much for your thoughtful comment!! I’m glad you are sleeping pretty well now days, and that does sound tough. You’re right - I bet a lot of the tips could apply well to a mama who’s dealing with chronic health issues. Thank you for watching!!
Oh Hannah! I have been dying to get my colors done and could not bring myself to shell out $300 for a house of color analysis! I think I'll book a virtual consult for my birthday next month! Thank you for these great recommendations!
@@megannelson6146 oh, that is so fun to hear! I’m so glad you might want to do this version of a color consult! I didn’t want to do the $300 or so, either! And it was fun and really insightful! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment!
Thank you! Yes, there is something so special about little shoes! 💗 It was fun to get my colors done and I especially like how it helps me out moving forward! Thanks for watching!
He’s so cute and knows a lot.at this age, they learn so much by learning, I’m also a home school mama and I have to remind myself to have grace at this age. Great job ❤
@@dorisdeal8729 thanks for taking the time to comment! Yes, I think at every single age we need to remind ourselves to have grace - grace for ourselves, grace for our kids… and it can be a tricky combination to give grace but also keep ourselves and our kids held to a high standard/stay accountable! Thanks for watching!
Thanks! Going to use some of these for my toddler when we go to church. It’s so hard to keep her from running around and being loud in the environment!
@@maddiespencer23 oh, I’m so glad to hear that! Yes, that was our ‘apartment grab & go’ collection! Much of it is included or similar in this video, but some of it has changed over time - plus I feel like I’ve really been able to hone in on what works best for us! Thanks for taking the time to comment! I’m so glad you’re enjoying my videos!
I just found your channel and am a new mom planning to homeschool. Your channel has quickly become one of my favorites! The Yoto player is so interesting. I had Grandpa Time as a child in the 80s and it's in my son's room. The cassettes have long since stopped working, but this looks like something similar that may bring my little boy wonderful memories like I have of Grandpa Time.
Hi! I'm sorry it took me so long to reply to you! Thank you so much for your kind words - so glad to have you here! :) Those Grandpa Time cassettes sound like a sweet memory! I love that thought. I hope that our children have wonderful memories of listening to countless audiobooks on their Yoto Players!
So glad I found your video. I’m a grandmother with a six year old granddaughter and you have given me wonderful suggestions for birthday gifts. Thank you for your help. God bless you.❤
We are currently doing Before Five in a Row for my preschooler and we absolutely adore it! The books are fantastic and it's a gentle way to introduce a variety of subjects and concepts. We have loved every single book on their recommended list. Excited to see how you and your family end up liking it! Thanks for sharing!
@@jennifersnarr5353 that is so exciting to hear! Yes, the Before Five in a Row sounded so great, too! Thanks for taking the time to comment! I’m really excited to see what we think about FIAR this year! ☺️
I know you mentioned the mathematical reasoning books are age specific. But does that mean if your child hasn't done book age 3 or any math can still use book age 4? Does book age 4 cover what's in book age 3? I hope that's not confusing lol 😅
@@Berserk_Alize3 Hi! Yes, you can absolutely jump in with the book for whatever age/level your child is at! I have just loved starting at the book for age 3, but I wouldn’t say you need to have done that book first. If you have a 4 year old, I would recommend starting with the book for age 4! They are so great. I think you’ll enjoy them, whatever level you decide to jump in at!
All these sound wonderful. Can you please do flip-thru of all the books/curriculum you are using for this coming school year? My son is two years old, my husband and I are already doing nursery school/toddler school with him but I like planning ahead too. I like to see what's out there, and like I said the things you are going to use sound wonderful
Hi! Thanks for watching and for the comment! I think that is a great idea! I was considering doing some flip-through videos in the future but didn't know which ones people would specifically be interested in! I'm thinking CLE, Five in a Row, and All About Reading - now I just need to make the time to film them! Thanks for suggesting flip-throughs!
Hey friend! Loved listening to your Pre-K curriculum picks. I too began schooling when my little one was very young just because she absolutely loved learning at that stage as she does now. I just felt it was the best decision for her. Thank you for sharing this! 💖🙏☺️
Hi! Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to comment! I'm so glad it worked out well for you to begin schooling early, too! As mamas, we know our children best and we know when they are ready to begin dipping their toes in the water of school time! :)
We just finished AAR level 1 and loved it! I also set it up to be reused like you described and it worked out really well because now as we finish up I know it’s ready to go for my next kiddo in line. And looking forward to hearing how CLE math goes for you all! Former teacher turned homeschool mom here too btw 😊
Hi! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment! How fun that you're a former teacher, too! And that is wonderful to hear that you've used AAR and you liked it - that makes me really excited to dive in. Thanks for watching! :)
We love CLE math! We have used 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. I’ve been homeschooling for 10 years and I just wish I had. Found it sooner. It’s the best math we’ve used.
That is such a good question! The Critical Thinking Co. designs their math workbooks to be used either way: as a stand alone curriculum or as a supplement to another curriculum you’re doing. (Here is their list of what they’ve recommend for each grade level if you only used their company: www.criticalthinking.com/full-curriculum) For my son (age 4.5, just finished 2nd year of preschool), I’ve used his Mathematical Reasoning workbooks as his math curriculum for all of his homeschool experience. For my daughter (age 6.5, just finished kindergarten), I used it as a supplement alongside The Good & The Beautiful’s Level K Math, but it then became more of a stand alone curriculum for her towards the end of the year here, because she finished TGTB Math a while ago and I’ve been thinking I’ll pivot away from TGTB Math for her next year so I didn’t want to buy the next TGTB Math level for her. I hope that helps some! The Mathematical Reasoning workbooks are my favorites, I think. They are just so sound and I love how they progress through (and review) important math skills. And, my kids love those workbooks! They’re well done!
@@hannahbeeolson that’s very helpful! I will check the link out. We just finished kindergarten also. We used Math with Confidence and I loved it but I got the The Critical Thinking Co math for the summer. So far it looks like he will enjoy it more (he’s very math savvy and didn’t love all of the games in MWC). What do you plan to do next school year for your daughter? I got the lower grade math one for my 4yo and plan to use that with her also. I really enjoy your videos! I believe our kids are the same age 🙂 6.5yo and 4.5yo ( I don’t have a baby though).
@@JessicaJosie It's so fun to hear that we have kids who are the same ages! :) I haven't fully solidified what I'll be doing with my daughter (my 6.5 year old) just yet, but I've been heavily researching options for the past couple of weeks! I'm planning to start ordering curriculum soon and then I'll begin sharing videos highlighting our curriculum choices! It's exciting but it definitely can be overwhelming as a mama, right?! We all want to make the best choices (including academic choices) for our children that we can!! I want to go in a different direction from The Good & The Beautiful for math, as well as probably for reading/language arts...I do plan to keep incorporating The Critical Thinking Co. though!
@@hannahbeeolsondoing this home school stuff how are you setting your child up for college? They can't home school college Will they be able to get a college degree and get a high paying job its very competitive out there now for ppl with college degrees
I’m so happy I came across this RU-vid video. My son loves little blue truck and searching around the web for days trying to find the right stuff for his first birthday. Now it’s all here!! Absolutely perfect. Thank you! 🙏
Aww! I am so happy to hear that!! My son is now 4 and a half, so it's been a while since his first birthday party, but I'm so glad that that video helped you! Happy birthday to your little guy!
Thank you so much! ☺️ I’m so glad to hear it was a helpful video!! Yes, I highly recommend quiet time - even starting at 20 minutes and working your way up, depending on the age of your child! It is such a nice breather (for everyone involved!) during the day. 💗
