I think that this was a great idea and it seems fun to play, but the blatant lack of attribution and poor balance are clear negatives. Tbh if it was unfcked I'd probably enjoy it
Different promotions and skills make fire emblem games much more enjoyable for me. Story in most of fire emblem games is so bare bones you cant really make it worse. So im actually interested in playing the hack
"Pour your own passion and creativity into your own work and not someone else's" is very hypocritical given the context of fan hacks. None of the fan creators own the IP nor the assets of the original game, you are a Den of Thieves. To be clear Im pro fanhacks, however theres this issue in FEU regarding ownership of user created assets and who is allowed to use them. You cant have this double standard of not having creators lifting assets from other creators when no one there owns the original assets in the base game.
In my defense, the best way to beat FE8 without taking damage is simple; Just pair Syrene with Gilliam! Because they’re indestructible demons in FE Heroes!
i think all of this honestly wouldn't be so bad if the guy was just not a a hole about the whole thing like insulting the original work or acting like it was all his doing even though he just stole the art from another persona and barely crediting them for it like if he was just honest and gave full credit to project ember i don't think it would be as bad.
13:50 I know this was just a really unfortunate side effect of bosses having leadership stars and their effect not being turned off when they're noncombatants... But this would be kinda cool to see implemented (intentionally and with care) in another rom hack. Cutscene-only bosses temporarily boosting their army's performance while they're on the field, I mean.
Not even an FE fan, but title and thumbnail were too good to pass up. Funniest thing is Had he made something actually good and not used assets without credit, most people would've forgiven his _absurd_ hubris and Gene Simmons-level ego. He's the guy alright, but not for a good reason. I've made some bad ROM hacks, but never thought I or my work was amazing. Again, the hubris. Just capping stats and giving enemies top teir equipment is just bad design in FE. It's the same issue I have with Endgame Engage, it was just tedious rather engaging (pun intented). Plus it's not like it'll do much. You can use the worst units in a game and still beat most of the games hard modes as is. Support in FE 6 is a hell of a drug, The Axe bros getting A support before chapter 8, perfect shit. We all know in a real FE6 remake they will likely up the main side characters involvment. FEH has already helped try and remind people that Lillina is ment to be a Caeda type character, hence why she has the same amount of recruits. I doubt Guinniver will be playable, I feel it detracts a little from her role of being a Nyna but I imagine they'll improve scense so she can actually give better imput. I also expect it to be in a pair of games with FE 7 to help the two games actually patch up inatvertant plot holes. Maybe just get a slight import so Roy and stuff knowing who there mothers are.
Guhum, well, ACTCHUALLI, the game doesn't really lie to you, it really is using the value you see on screen, but because it is taking the average of 2 rolls it, it tends to roll closer to 50 wich is the average you get on rolls, but the true hit values are never registered at any moment in any variables. So because the game itseld don't really know the true hit rate, it is never lying to you, since a lie must be conscious. It's only spreading misinformation. ☝🤓

I like how methodical and detailed you are in this breakdown of the romhack. This video has reminded me a lot of my aspirations when I was 16 to be involved in the FE community (which, I've learned that I'm not best suited for these types of things). I've been dabbling into FE videos again for no apparent reason, I haven't even played the games much, but I love them. I still think about the one or two people (who I can't remember the usernames of) in these communities, and I wonder if things could've been different. I've been pursuing education in I.T. and have become somewhat obsessive about programming and it's weird to see some of these tools that I struggled so much with in this video, and I wonder how I'd fare against them now. I still think it'd be nice to create a FE romhack one day, or at least a FE-style game in whatever language I pursue (atm I'm learning Java for college and I think It'd be better for me to become strong with a "lower level language" like C++, which is still relatively high). God I wish I had friends.
I remember seeing this and downloading it to check out, particularly the inner workings to see what kind of ideas I can gleam from others to act as inspiration is my own projects and...boy did he take the idea behind FE6's poor balance to an extreme.

i figure someone's already said this but resourceful is weird in that it's a skill that only works with stuff like the skills slayer/skybreaker. but it's failed to be included in any description within base skillsys, on that and alert stance it's not fe6 guy's fault but more just skillsys of that bit being screwy lol
tbh, the difficulty names are not a big issue for most Fire Emblem games. I would honestly like more FE games to just call their 'Normal' mode Easy with how most of them double xp gain and substantially lower enemy stats compared to even Hard.
In defense of this romhack, I'm pretty sure those glitched skills are how they come from the standard download of the skills patch. So, the guy didn't brake the skills, he just didn't fix them and/or check to see if they worked. Yep, that's a strong defense right there. >,>

It helps that I used very few promotional items, so I had a lot of stuff to sell. I also sold angelic robes, and a lot of weapons I knew I would never use. I did most of the game with cheap weapons like hand axes, so I amassed quite a lot of gold by the end.

It's a shame this hack took so much from Project Ember because literally the only thing I'd want from Ember would be playable Lowen and that's it lmao. I just wanted FE6 in the Engine of FE8 for PMU/CMU stuff Anyway play Project Sienna. I hear it's better
What gets me about these plagiarism cases is often how easily these guys could convincely lie their way out of trouble, if only they were willing to take a *little* bit of blame. Like, genuinely, if this guy just apologized and said he mis-remembered what was and wasn't part of the public repository when he first posted the hack, he probably could have gotten away with most of the less obvious plagerism, and people wouldn't have looked into it as far. He even could have gotten away with the prideful boasting and exaggeration as "a joke that didn't land", since literally who ever heard of this fuck until he posted the thanos gif and his iconic line? He could have even left off the whole situation with some praise, as honestly some of these personal skill choices are kinda inspired. Like, Roy's personal is genuinely cool thematically, putting Galeforce on a general is a neat way to balance a normally broken skill, etc, there's sone neat ideas put forward there, even if poorly executed. But no, he had to be "The FE6 guy". The other remake had to be "a *slight* inspiration" over a base. He had to take full credit for minor edits he made to other people's sprites. So now, instead of being a rocky-but-notable start to a hack hobby, or at least just a funny bump in the road to look back on, he's here, getting fully lampooned and raked across the coals like he deserves. I do hope someone else takes some of the blueprints of ideas presented here and does something with them, though; buried underneath the mediocrity is genuinely good ideas; I'd LOVE to see both Wolt and Liliana's stories expanded, especially since Roy and Wolt's relationship in the original game is kinda tragic with how Wolt has to stop treating Roy like a friend.
I started playing FE games last year, finished the three GBA games recently, and I try to never read about which units are the best and their stats and growth rates until after I finish it. Because of that, Neimi was actually part of my main squad until the very end of the game, which I bonded with Artur and Garcia for support. Indeed at first it felt like it was pretty hard to get her to land hits and get level ups, but I persevered and by the end of the game iirc she got to lvl 10 promoted. So yeah, Neimi good!
