"We're told we have to film a whole other video for '500' as the UK original's references apparently don't work for the US. So we head out into the desert to enact some inexplicable narative featuring a little girl in a pink plastic wig.... It remains Emma's most loathed Lush video" Miki Berenyi, Fingers Crossed
so that was Paul king formally from Coventry rock band king interviewing lush. Never knew miki liked the throwing muses, she’s right though, the real ramona album by them stands up today.
Fell in love with this song (and group) after seeing them one Friday night of--I want to say Citylimits on Much Music, but that's not the name of the program, with Kim Clarke Champiss.... I miss the early '90s...
Pretty little girl, she shines Knowing she is young, she smiles Happy just to be a prize Happy just to see his smile Silly little girl, she tries Thinking she is good, and wise Doesn't recognise the lies Pouring from her lips, she sighs This is so real It's what I feel I look in your eyes and lose myself Silly little girl denies Ever understanding why Her face is full of sad surprise Every time she hears him cry What do you feel When you're with me? I look in your eyes and see myself But there's no connection Just his own reflection Isn't this the way you wanted me? (What do you mean?) In love with you (What do I feel?) Do anything (What do you mean?) For you She looked in his eyes to lose herself And when it falls apart, she cries Doesn't think to look inside She just covers up her eyes Doesn't see her own disguise And though she feels this sorrow It will fade tomorrow She'll pretend that this was really love (What do you mean?) She'll make their fall (What did I feel?) Seem beautiful (What do you mean?) She won't remember this at all (What do you mean?) She won't recall (What did I feel?) The truth at all (What do you mean?) She wants to fall (What did I feel?) Again (What do you mean?)
Jody Steck do you know what this song is about? Been listening to it for decades but at different phases of life it means different stuff. She's pretending she's in love but she isn't?
pixelscanon I have heard countless thousands of songs and studied endless millions of lyrics in most of my soon to be 42 years. One of the main reasons that For Love is in my view a masterpiece is because it lyrically and sonically just plain works wonders for the broken and mended heart which can relate. Miki, Emma, Phil and Chris all worked together to cultivate something incontrovertibly honest here. This video for me is a bellowing, a melodic cry from the past, haunting and healing in a very unique way. Love is love, but only if it never finds itself lost.
OH MY GOSH!!! I haven't heard this sweet tune since the summer of 1992 on 89X (88.7) 'the cutting edge of Rock' Detroit while driving home from my summer job at 2AM Burger King in my '86 Chevy cavalier down Hilton rd in Brighton Michigan with a snickers ice cream bar in one hand steering wheel the other and after just partaking in a smoke of the green, I was 20 years old! Total NOSTALGIA trip! I always loved this song and this makes me think of impressionist painting because that summer I was on an impressionist kick, reading books on Renoir, Monet and Van Gogh as well as John Singer Sargeant, and whilst inspired, doing a few oil paintings of my own!
