Hey, and welcome to Theme Park UK, the home of theme park content from the United Kingdom. My name is Jack, and I love theme parks! If you do to, then hopefully you'll be able to find something here to interest you. Thanks for checking out the channel, and I hope you stick around :)
An accident in MandDs was a long time coming. I worked there many years ago. They knew when safety inspectors were coming, and they would try and get everything in order before they arrived.
I remember seeing a video showing a 3D simulation of the accident, where the deer got hit by the coaster and the deers head flew near the wife who had Mario’s head and a tear coming out.
And ya see, this is why I don’t go on roller coasters called The Big Dipper. What is it like three Big Dipper coasters that’s either crashed or malfunctioned? 1 malfunctioned with no injuries and two crashed into the second train of cars with injuries and one of them included some deaths. The Big Dipper coaster with deaths was demolished along with the rest of the park. Almost seems like you’re dooming the coaster to fail if you name your coaster The Big Dipper.
The Ultimate has now sadly closed however it was unrelated to this incident. The coaster operated subsequently to this accident and ended up closing due to high maintenance costs combined with a park that was/is struggling financially and pivoting to a sole family focus.
Also if you are going in summer, consider buying a coke a cola freestyle vessle! They are £15 and £9 to reactivate (£7 for merlin annual pass holders) They also have free water refill stations so if you don't want to pay for a vessle, make sure you bring your water bottle!
My Mum drove me and my brother to Thorpe Park that afternoon, and we noticed a towering plume of smoke in the distance heading down from Staines... needless to say it's a day we'll never forget!
I'm sorry right but I don't blame the park at all. It was her fault. Signs said DO NOT stand up on the ride, but she did. Had she not of she wouldn't of fell out. I may sound horrible but at the same time I'm not wrong. Had she not of stood up... she wouldn't have fallen out. Fact. The boat design is the only thing I would say is fault of the park. But if you like at rides like rumba rapids and Congo River Rapids, their boats are the same. It was an accident that shouldn't of happened. Not the parks / staff fault
This is pretty confusing and I have questions: They added a 5th cart, did they add it to the end of the 4 already there or somewhere in the middle of the track? It also said that the sent out a 2nd test train that didn’t go around the loop, did it get too the end? My big question is: the cart with people on crashed into another cart, did it crash onto the 1 5th or the 2nd test train?
Hi, sorry for the confusing video. This was one of my first videos and I wasn't really knowledgeable about theme parks at all at this point so it's a shame it's this video that most people see first. I'll try and give an explanation considering I have been obsessed with theme parks for the past 4 years and know a bit more. So I believe what happened was that the ride was having issues on a very busy summers day and the ride team decided that this was a good opportunity to add an additional train to increase capacity. This train was cycled round the circuit and due to being light (no passengers) combined with the high winds, a gust pushed the train backwards, therefore not completing the element. Before this train returned to the station, a fully loaded train was dispatched and started climbing the first lift hill. The ride computer held the train at the top of the lift due to the fact it noted there was an object (in this case a train) within the next block section (a block section is essentially a part of a coaster that sits between stopping points where the train can be stopped by a lift or brake. this means that the computer knew if the train were to leave the lift hill, it would collide with the object it perceived to be within the next section). The ride team incorrectly accounted for the number of trains (either because they were unaware that an additional train had been added or because they forgot that the number of trains had increased) and thought the computer detecting a presence in the next block was an error (this can happen) so overrode the warning. This released the loaded train and it eventually crashed into the stalled train. I hope this answered your question.
i came back from alton towers yesterday at 1am from a school trip. i didn't go on the smiler because of my immense fear of both heights and rollercoasters, but if i didn't have these fears i would've gone on it. it looks extremely fun. its a shame those dumbasses couldn't do their job and gave the ride a bad reputation.
I was told about this accident a few weeks after it happened but forgot about until I went to Alton Towers last year and was reminded of it while queueing for The Smiler 💀
