Hello my name is Kevin Peres. This channel was originally my personal channel with the standard home video material. I posted an OTDR video to see how it would stream and it received a lot of views. Once the view went over 100k on that one video I decided to convert this from personal home videos to training and informational videos related to what I do for a living. I work for a test and measurement company called EXFO. We build equipment to test telecommunications networks. Just about anything that can be tested we do. Hello Kevin, I just recently came about this video to update my EXFO Max Tester-730-SM2. I followed the steps to the teeth and now that the OTDR restarted my apps are no longer coming up on the screen, seems they are deleted somehow. Anyway or do you happen to have a solution for this? Would i need to send it off to get this fixed?

How can you use exfo ftb-1 pro as a manual loopback for 1G electrical for Y.1564? Meaning test being run from a different source and the exfo being the loopback.
Robert, You will want to use smartloop back. Or if the SW is fully updated we can respond to the most common third party vendor loop commands such as from Viavi. Give it a try the only thing you will need to make sure is that you have link. Set your port 1 1G electrical and connect it to your network. When you initiate the loop common from the far end unit if its a supported device we will respond to that loop.
amazing video, Kevin Just a quick question: if I have an inline amplifier on my network, will the OTDR signal get amplified by EDFA to travel long distances on a long haul network?
@@mthokohlongwane2029 I am glad you liked the video. An OTDR will not test through an EDFA. While some OTDRs will test with an active signal on the line they will not test through an active device.
@@fibre.gelmonkey it absolutely could. If the splice is close it may merge into the reflective event. Great point. I have some customers adding “pigtail splice” as a new event. It’s a reflective event and splice combined
This video was very helpful for getting some custom reports made, but I have a semi unrelated question. I know I can take results in Fast Reporter and upload them to my workspaces in Exchange, but I don't see any option to associate the results with an active job once they are in Exchange. Is there something I'm missing?
Hunter I am glad you found this video useful. What you are asking for is a popular request. The uploads from FR and from the test set when not part of a job are what we call AdHoc uploads. They are not associated with any Jobs. If you look at the results tab in Exhcnage you will see Exchange jobs will have a hyperlink to the job but manually uploaded test do not. It is a request I have submitted and will add your name to the list of folks looking for that feature.
Javier which version of the FTB-1 do you have? We have an older model that has buttons on the side and the newer FTB-1 Pro. You can download the install files and instructions from apps.exfo.com/en/exfo-apps you may need to create an account first which is free.
Hello Kevin, Interesting video, what length do you recommend for the loop cable that you find it good in the measurement? Does it also work with APC connectors? Often good APC plugs have no reflection We have already tried it in the Iolm with a 20m loop cable and APC connector, but there are often problems with it not recognising the connector. @@Paddy-we1bx hello Patrick. Great name I have a son named Patrick. I recommend at least 100-150 meters. It really depends on the span length. APC connectors often do show non-reflective. Is iloop not identifying the loop correctly ? A longer loop might help but I will have to look into this. Do you have a copy of the trace you can email me ?
Hello Kevin, I have a EXFO MAX-730C and recently the software OTDR and IOLM don't show me in the screen, I checked the optional softwares in configuration and they don´t show me any one. I am looking for a solution in internet, and I arrived to your channel. Maybe could you help me with the installation of these softwares?

@@KevinPeres Thank you Kevin, I upgraded it to the last version 3.7 and the software OTDR and IOLM are worked, but when I turn off the device and on it the functions are deleted, and if I turn on it with ac adapter the sofware show me again, it is so strange. If is possible maybe I could send you a video for email?

Hi Kevin, thanks for the great video. it teach me a lot regarding FR3. However, I'm encountering an issue with FR3. It seems that the template I need, similar to what OLTS Max 945 produces, is not available in FR3. Do you have access to the format used by OLTS Max 945, or is there a way to obtain it in FR3?

Hi there, we have a viavi otdr, just wondering if we can use this program to do the bidirectional trace? We have downloaded it and tried loading “.sor” trace and it won’t load. Thanks
Fast Reporter 3 will open SOR files but sometimes there will be some anomalies. While SOR are a "standards" based format there is some wiggle room for some of it that each vendor may interpret differently. We try to build support and work around where we can but we are often limited. For example many third part SOR we will not re-analyze because of this. If you go to the OTDR tab and select Import this will allow you to import in some SOR files that do not meet Bellcore compliance or there is something we needed to adjust. For example some Viavi traces reference out the launch and the launch connector differently so when you import them we will adjust to that. It is not perfect and sometimes you will see some differences. It is always important to compare what the results look like in the test set or from a report pulled from the test set to make sure everything is looking good. Now if you are talking about using the iLoop tool I am almost certain it will not work on third-party SOR because we need to reanalze it. Hope this helps!
After working at L3 for a really long time, my new task is to work on OAM and in that specifically Y1564. This video is really nice. Despite working as a developer for the longest time, i didnt really have exposure to the first diagram namely the traditional deployment network. Thank you.
Kevin - I've had my OX1 for a couple of years now and I love it. However a few weeks ago I got a new phone (Android) and around the same time I updated the software on my OX1. Since then, when I connect my OX1 to my phone, I see the unit connect, but my results do not load on my phone. In the past that was never an issue but now I'm having problems. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the app, power cycling both my phone and the OX1, even re-setting my Bluetooth on the phone...nothing works. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Yes if it’s on the same network you can use VNC. If it’s on different network you can use QuickAssist or TeamViewer. Although I have not tried it you might be able to do USB3 out to HDMI. I have an adapter somewhere I will have to try it out
It is a combination of both. We have an offline viewer and I also log into the OSA. You can find the offline viewer at EXFO.com under Support | Download Software | PC
Kevin, I know you posted this a while back but I hope you still read these comments. I currently have an EXFO FTB-1 Pro with the 8880 card installed. I'm just getting into the Microwave setup and have been asked to run a RFC 2544 test. I understand how you have your system set up, and how everything works, and what it is testing. However, I'm a little stuck on how to incorporate this into a microwave shot. Can I have my EXFO at one end and have the switch at the other end of the shot be a loopback? Or can I just program each radio with an IP address and put a physical loopback coming right out of the radio at the far end? Or will I need two machines to run a test? I tired to reach out to EXFO to get some information but haven't had any response yet.
Hi Kevin. I'm currently working on Failed RFc test. It's 50MB but I only got 10MB. When I ran 50MB, it only passed on Latency at all frames. Failed on Throughput and Frameloss. I ran Mac swaptest with our carrier, placed the loop at the NNI and to their Equipment, it both passed. They already cleaned their fiber and changed SFP, bht I cannot still pass may RFC. Any advise what might be the possible issues? Your advise will be so much appreciated.
I'm trying to sync my FTB-1 to my laptop and it's unsuccessful. I've tried everything I have in my knowledgebase. Do you have any troubleshooting tips?
Hello Kevin, What to do in case we have a mixed fiber scenario (G.652+G.655 spliced along the span) and we do not know the exact quantity of Km for each type? (fiven that we must select the fiber type on the CD tab....)
Francis use Custom which defaults to cubic. The good news is you can reanalyze to a different data fit using FastReporter if you need to change the math. It would be interesting to know what the results will be.
Just found this video, it does help explain a few things however my device does not seem to be working correctly. I have the 430B MaxTester. It works fine on the "normal" fiber, single strand and multimode, but when i get to APC it 2x12 it does not want to stitch the scan together, it gives a fault of "the number of fiber does not match what is selected."
