I just want to say, I took some college classes that used ProTools. Every single student had problems just Running the damn software...logging in...was a nightmare. Every single update broke something. Transporting files between PC's was horrendus. Protools does nothing "better" its just more bloated. Some students were forced to "buy" it Twice, just to do their homework. You dont even "buy" it, its subscription based. The amount of times students spent watching the swirly beachball... and Macs are touted to be "super gud for music production" Reaper is literally 25mb and runs on a potato Protools is 4.5GB and needs some sort of beefy rig (even though old protools 1999 ran on windowsME, they just keep making it more bloated) Protools is only "Industry Standard" because Top level studios have very high budgets, and Avid has a monopoly on Video/Audio Editing Suites. Its, pardon my french, THE DUMBEST CRAP IVE EVER SEEN. Every single thing in protools is an obnoxious series of checkboxes, areyousure dialogue windows, and pointless outdated settings. PT is SO NEEDLESSLY CUMBERSOME. Imo, Protools for personal or small business use, is absolute Bloated Garbage in2024 when there are MUCH FASTER DAWs out there. If you are not a Large Industry Studio, and a person who spends 24/7 in protools, memorizing all of the stupid shortcuts is a waste, there is ZERO reason to use protools. I can open reaper, immediately close it and reopen it to bypass the Evaluation Dialogue 20x times before ProTools splash screen even loads up ONCE. Yeah, PT can do a lot of things, and interact with its own stupid Proprietary Avid Hardware(yay monopoly) I cant reiterate how non-ergonomic it is to be a real human using that crap Avid program, and it doesnt treat my PC nicely either. Screw Avid Link, and screw their trash updates that break everytime I update MY OWN PC. I cant wait to uninstall everything protools once im done with the degree program, I wish I could take all the money students spent on stupid subscriptions and bought my peers a REAL Daw instead of funneling more money into Avids bottomless pockets. Even the teachers would say "Screw Avid!!" ANYTHING you can do in PT or any other DAW, can be done in Reaper. And the comments are proof. Look how helpful the Reaper community is. With Avid, you need to sign up to be a part of their super special club to get access to their helpforums, And a long time ago, you could just call and get a REAL PERSON to help you...good luck getting that now, you only get a series of Phone Robots. Reaper can run 64-128 tracks. Try putting 64 tracks (even with nothing on the timeline) on PT and watch how that turns out. Can cook eggs on your computer. Reaper has worked FLAWLESSLY since install, my PC never breaths heavy, and filesizes STAY SMALL.
Lol, done. Harley Benton double cut with 3 p-rails each mounted in a triple shot with a 6 way toggle, push/pull cap switch tone pot, and 3 push/pull polarity flip volume pots. I haven't done the math, but I think that'll surpass the green monster. Just haven't gotten around to doing a video on it yet outside of the shorts. It's been crazy round here.
After a year, how are you getting on? I've been playing for about 3 weeks now and have just ordered the fiddle fretter, but it's gonna take 4weeks to arrive (uk 🤷♂️)!
Hey! Thanks for checking in. 4 weeks is a long wait, but I hope it works for you. Unfortunately, things with the kiddo really limited practice time, so I haven't been able to pick up the violin as much as I wanted. Therefore, my progress is minimal. But the frets definitely help me as a guitarist figure out what I'm doing, lol. It's been especially great as an engineer, oddly enough. If I want to mix in some real strings amongst virtual instruments, I can get at least get daggum close and focus more on my bowing than finger position. In short, I haven't become a great or even good violinist over the past year, but I can use mine to decent effect in the studio, which is perfect for my needs.
What bridge and stop tailpiece are you using?? I want upgrade my HB guitar and have been looking at the tune o matic bridges but don't known which one to get
Hey, Cal, I just have the stock hardware installed. I thought about upgrading, but decided that the nightmare of either finding posts that match the bushing or pulling the bushings wasn't worth it for me personally. There's actually some machining marks on the bridge that would be nice to not have. Still works well though.
I wouldnt mind getting a guitar from the Harley Benton range, that guitar looks the business ,I saw they do a gretsch 6120 copy, and heard it, very nice .
Yo, Distinguished! Gotcha dude. I'm gonna get a short cell phone footy thing to push out tomorrow. Gonna be a min before I can do my actual review with well recorded guitar tone. But maybe I can find a time that I can take off work while the kid is in daycare to do like a livestream? Yall can toss out settings and we can just try stuff out together. Maybe an upcoming Thursday. Would you be down for something like that?
Oooh good question. Looks like it's weighing in at a little over 8 lbs. The scale we have at home isn't great for this sort of thing so I can't get more exact.
Dude.I Like the tone comparison though wish you’d perhaps wound the gain down on the clean sounds so they were super clean….but pleeeeease tune your guitar before doing a video. Winced every time the chords played through
Thanks, Chris. Lol, yeah, this was one of my first videos, and it has its issues. But it's one of the best performing ones aside from my rants about Avid. Sometimes stuff happens, and ya just gotta learn and move on. Those pickups are actually in a different guitar now that I plan on doing a different video about. Hopefully, it shows in your feed once published, and we can see what ya think about the new home of the p-rails.
Currently bouncing between both for various projects. Still haven't paid to renew my perpetual license, but since Avid backed up a bit on their subscription only nonsense I feel better about continuing to use the software I'm more familiar with. But I have some collaborators who are using Reaper, so if I'm working with them, I'll try to either use Reaper myself or set up a stem session in Reaper for us to use.
Dude, your comment got me researching the hyperswitch. That's a fricken cool piece of kit right there. Now I'm starting to get a whole new set of ideas lol.
This is the most unusable useless tone pickup tho everyone like this pickup for the looks and functionality praised it. Not a popular opinion I had a ESP guitar with the P Rails installed so I know
Yo Frank, Idk off the top of my head and I'm not where I can get to the sg to check. I can tell you I didn't set individual pole pieces just the pickup height screws. If I get a chance I'll see about taking some measurements and letting you know.
Lol, dude, I fricken love that album. That version of Turn the Page is one of my Faves to this day. I think the garage will be workable once we get some cooling out there. Right now, it gets pretty brutal once the sun comes up.
I have not tried Reaper but switched to Presonus Studio 1 version 6. Haven't missed Pro Tools or any of their crap. Many are making a change...and are loving it.
I can't sort out if you filmed this over time as you grew the beard, or started with one and then shaved it off for the clean-shaven shots, or some combination of that. There's only one Lemmy, so it takes balls to do this. You did it justice!
Lol, a combination of all the above. I filmed the drums quite a while back, then grew out the chops and filmed bass/vocals before life happened, and filming was paused for a while. I went clean shaven and grew back a little scruff before I was able to come back and do guitar and keys. Agreed. From all the interviews I've seen, Lemmy was always unapologetically himself and unapologetically loved what he did. I've always really respected that dude. I hope this comes across as a tribute, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Well, I've been using and old, I mean OLD version of PT forever. On an old, OLD Mac. I can record 16 inputs at a time, that works for me. It replaced a 24 track tape setup (shows my age). All the plug ins just always worked very very well. It replaces a board and tape machine plus effects just fine for me. I have the original PT software I own, and have procured a few old Mac's. But as time moved on, I couldn't upgrade plugin instruments anymore. The format was bullet proof but I got squeezed out on the instrument plugins, and that's what I really need. So I dived into Reaper. I have to say it's not easy but the possibilities are pretty cool.
I'm here for whatever you do my man. I look forward to the Hellraiser cover and seeing what you do with your band. Great stuff. I relate to a lot of what you say here. I have a kid too (although she's 13 now), and I'm a business owner also trying to balance a couple of creative pursuits. It's a lot and balance is hard. But you're correct to prioritize your son. And you're also correct to not give up on your passions entirely in that process. I'm cheering for you. I live in Edmonton, Canada so driving in cold, snow and ice is second nature to me. This is an oil town so I've met a lot of Texans in my day, mostly through work over the years. I've been told more than once by people that would know that Edmonton and Houston have a lot in common. Except that, oddly, they figure summer is easier in Texas than here. This is because, opposite of what you deal with in the winter, we aren't well equipped for heatwaves. We don't generally have air conditioning in our homes or in many small businesses. Older cars sometimes don't have it either. Interesting the contrast between the two places that way.
Dude, I can't thank you enough for your kind words and continued support. It really means a lot to me. Especially in this challenging season of life and this era of an often vitriolic internet. Things will all work out for the best, its just scary when you don't know what that will look like. Yeah parenting, entrepreneurship, and creation are some of the hardest things to do in my opinion, and do well, and it sounds like we both decided why not do all the hard things at the same time lol. If there is something I can do to help (not sure what you're working on exactly but maybe some remote mixing or some feedback on a mix) feel free to reach out and I'd be happy to see what I can do. On a forgiving timetable obviously. I've only ever been to British Columbia, but what I've seen of Canada is so breathtaking. Met some pretty cool people there too. Wow the idea of no air conditioning... We couldn't handle it. Especially back in West Texas. When those temps start hitting 105+ its not a lot of fun. I'm originally from the Permian Basin so I understand all about the oil town phenomena. Those parallels and differences are interesting. I guess everywhere all around the world has its own idiosyncrasies that the population has to work through. Anyway, thanks again, Derek. You're awesome.
@@AudioMuttStudios Yeah, that's crazy hot. We don't get quite that hot here. In Fahrenheit I think 93 is about as hot as it gets here, and that's generally only for 2-3 weeks of the year, at most. But still, if you don't have access to air conditioning outside of grocery stores and big offices, it can be a bit much. I may take you up on feedback of some sort one day. Thanks for the offer.
@@AudioMuttStudios Well, that's annoying as I'd spent a few mins crafting that one lol. Anyhow, I really like the riffs in this song. And the bridge piece in the middle sounds stellar in my headphones. That the Twitter character limit version of my original comment.
Thanks a bunch, Derek. I appreciate your kind words. This song and its sister tune are two of my favorites. Tunnels was a very dark album, so I wanted to end it with something uplifting and hopeful.
We need more music like this in the world. It reminds me of Moses talking to God, saying, "If I have found favor in Your sight..." while leading the Children of Israel out of Egypt.
I left pro tools 5 years ago. I am solely using the Cakewalk by bandlab. I get the same professional quality production which I have released for MTV and other media outlets. Save your money or just waste it on Pro tools
