My channel contain subjects that are of interest to me. I am a costume maker professionally and own a massive costume rental business. Aside from my love of costumes, I also have a huge passion for model making, sculpture, motorcycles, airplanes, cooking, playing the guitar and building things in general. How things are made, fascinate me.
Glad you like it. I plan on taking a lot of it apart and making a series of smaller scenes. It has lost its novelty at this point. I can do more making smaller dioramas..Cheers
Awesome diorama, a good variety of allied vehicles and the detail is really good 👍 Ignore criticism unless its constructive or helpful to improve your skills, i acquired some helpful painting tips from the warhammer community to enhance a model that lil bit more.
Brilliant just cool as ,I love the level of detail I used to make similar dioramas when a kid and having no money I would cut off guns from rubbish soldiers to drop random on the dioramas lots of things like that just for more detail and it makes a big difference no battlefield is clean
It’s the most successful one I’ve seen. The others are built with no worries about the details that are too coarse in the original model. I also like traces of rust, shark cages and storage trunks. BRAVO ! Hello from FRANCE !
Just doing one currently, its a redo of one what was build in the 1970/ 1980’s i believe. Got it cheap on marketplace and still nearly 100% complete. Had to take it apart as the old glue used in the original build was failing due to its age i presume. Fun to do anyway. Your vessel has fantastic details, well done 👍👍👍
The helicopter that was flown aboard Calypso was a Hughes 269 (Howard Hughes aircraft company). Used a 4 cylinder gas engine. Sometimes it is mentioned that it was a Schweizer -269. McDonnell Douglas bought the rights from Hughes, then Schweizer bought them from McDonnell Douglas. Now Sikorsky owns the design. They are the same aircraft with minor upgrades over the years. It's typically known as the Hughes-Schweizer 300 (300 for an improved engine).
Outstanding attention to detail. I have one in the box on standby, just about ready to retire and begin. Can't wait to use some of your tips on wiring, and placement of details. Bravo
Only those who have built a Billings kit will know how challenging it is, and will appreciate what you have achieved, it is a work of art. My Zwarte Zee had me pulling my hair out at times. I am currently 3D printing a 1.1m Calypso just to see if it is possible, and yours is going to make an excellent reference model. Thanks for posting.
I love Billings Kits. The Calypso was hours and hours of fun ! I have thought about the Zwartz Zee. No doubt it will take you a while. Great time spent.
Not a big fan at all of those pine trees. They look like they're made out of those cheap plastic christmas trees. i think some train set pines would look much better on this piece!
I laid on the super fine glass cloth. About 3 coats of epoxy, sanding gently between layers to smooth things out and build up the surface, then finished off with about 3 coats of brushed on Varnish. sanding where necessary. It`s a process. Just like building the real thing. Thanks for the comment....Josh
I am building this same kit right now. Also started the Yamato in this same scale but that one is on the back burner for a few months untill I finish the Iowa. They are awesome model kits! Yours looks good so far!
Thanks Paul. It is about 80% complete. I have not worked on it for a couple of years. Life got in the way. Have fun on your build. It is a great looking model kit for sure....Josh
I bought the dumas model American Beauty in 1974. I built part of it, put it away, then life got in the way. Now retired, I finished the model and I also detailed the interior, although no one will ever see it, but it was fun. My next project is this very model, the Calypso model from Billings. My son bought it for me for Christmas. Right now he is redoing my model room and I can’t wait to get started. You did a beautiful job on yours. I plan to detail the heck out of mine also.
I did think of building the American beauty at one time. At 37 inches I bet it looks impressive. I have not built any models in the last couple of years but I`ve had some of my best moments building them. Have fun with the Calypso. I think I worked on it for a couple of years and it was a great Journey. Take care Earl....Josh
Mr Wilson thanks for the video. I am novice and I haven't bought yet something and I want to begin. Could you suggest me a boat to begin? And if you could tell me what materials I ll need for shading and etc. Thanks.
Absolutely beautiful model, incredibly well done. I'm picking up a part done one next weekend. Looking forward to having one again very much. I had the kit back in the late 1980s when it first came out and loved it, very much regretted selling it, so I'm eagerly anticipating having one again and getting it on the water.
I recall seeing someone else who wanted to make the stocks look more like real wood, and used Fiebing's alcohol based leather due to darken the plastic to a more walnut color and then semi gloss sealed it. That's what I plan on doing to mine after I "ding up" the furniture here and there. Also, be aware of where you are weathering the gun. I noticed on the right side above the trigger, the "mouth harp" looking piece you weathered at 2:59 wouldn't get any wear on the top of it because it's protected by the upper receiver overhang. I would also recommend picking up a 1917 Kerr pattern sling and getting ride of that bungee one you have on there now.
Put the sandpaper away and use a scotch brite pad very lightly. 3M makes other soft pads as well which will give you a real worn in look. I have aged electric guitars using 3M pads and aged a few AK 47 rifles for other people with great results. I would say this being a BBgun why bother just shoot it and don't worry so much about where you set it down and it will wear in and age all on its own. Your finished product doesn't look quite correct because I have plenty of old worn guns that went thru WWII and yours does not look like the ones I have. Use Birchwood Casey Aluminum black to restore slight mistakes and not paint.
Very elegant build & aircraft type you've got. I wish you'd go the remaining distance & make it a flyer; it truly doesn't take much to beef them up & make them resilient for actual flight...
Nice work, I am going to be building one of these kits next, I built the freighter, how is this on comparison of skill level. Was the planking difficult?
@@jeeperscreatures Thanks you can check out my progress at my channel. I have to say everything has pretty much been done without relying completely on the instructions. I bought the kit this year and unfortunately I don't think it has been touched or tweaked since release. That's okay though because the knowledge this kit is teaching me is priceless. I will definitely have a lot more appreciation for the newer kits.
