Actually, my workplace has decided to transition to Blender, you might have guess the reason :D. And also I was interested to learn it, and surprisingly, it wasn't too difficult, especially in animation, as long as you're not overly dependent on third-party tools. It's not necessary to master both software; Maya is the industry standard, and knowing one makes it relatively easy to pick up another.
