Thank you Tina! I have been on a journey to land a full time tech job since last year and have been fortunate to land a part time Jon dealing with PCs at a local community College. I recently got Pinterest Intern notification to apply and wide up missing the deadline. Nevertheless none of the apprenticeship were customer success but read through all they had and found the confidence to look closer into Product Manager. Realized my experience in over 15yrs in customer service (remote and call center) in product knowledge, being a coordinator for a non profit start up and then 9 months part PC tech makes me more than qualified to apply into a product manager role with no degree or exact experience in the role. But my skills from experience says otherwise. I hope you can respond with so motivation that thi is true and I can do this ?? Thank you Tina! @Tina Lousie Chen

In a way, it's not that far of a leap from advertising/marketing to product manager. both involve understanding the user's pain points and what they want. listening to your story it sounds like you had lots of career experience leading up to PM and it was a natural career progression. even starting out in customer service, all of your prior roles were definitely stepping stones. good for you taking initiative.. but the title is not really accurate.
@tinalouisechen

I agree having the customer empathy is a very important aspect of PM career. However, a lot of times, during my job hunting experience, recruiters directly asked me “were u a PM before?” And when I said I had those experience listed above, they said that means u don’t have the PM experience. I’m grateful that my current company took a chance on me! 😭 I hope ppl who were in my shoes can be inspired and take the leap as well

It’s possible! I will highly encourage to start connecting the dots between what you do now and see what are the transferable skills, take courses to learn more about what PM do and start crafting your story! In my most recent video, I shared more in depth steps on how to accomplish this. Feel free to take a look! :)

amazing video and content. thank you for your inspiration and sharing all of your knowledge and experience! The high frequency of the very small space between micro-edits in this video was a bit intense/distracting for me. It's a popular editing style and it works well, but when there's like 10 edits in one sentence, and sometimes several very short edits between several connected words, it can be a little overwhelming. Anyhow, love the content! Looking forward to more

Hi there!! I think PM experience and portfolio go hands in hands. You will need some relevant experience to build the PM portfolio! Having those relevant experience to build the portfolio has the highest chance to land you a PM role. Good luck 🍀😀

as a recent business graduate who 1. can't get a job and 2. is researching on maaaaany industries and areas, this video has been super helpful. downside (mine) is that as a very curious person sometimes i get interested in many different things and then i dont know what to do lol or what to try first, or what to get started with anyway, i loved the video and your vibe! funnily enough I was also making and drinking coffee so it felt like a nice chat w you! <3
@tinalouisechen
@tinalouisechen 4 месяца назад
Hi Melissa! I definitely felt that before! I think what worked for me is just apply for jobs that I’m interested in, don’t need to focus so much on getting that “one” job! After getting into the role, I know what I liked vs not liked and I realized what I liked before its false illusion. I actually hated it haha! Having broad interests is not bad tho! Keeping life fun and exciting 🥰🤩
