I remember losing the metal piece that goes to the cord that plugs into the tv for years when i was a kid. We had foot long crt tv and couldn't hardly make out what I was looking at, but still played it. I had a hunch and moved some furniture around and behold the magical metal cylinder was found once again. I immediately turned on the game and had a rush of excitement.

I borrowed this game in Jan of 92 and found the Chris Houlahan room and was trying to tell everybody at school about it, and everyone said I was lying . Eventually other people started finding it. I triggered it by bomb blasting myself into great pyramid hole while pushed by floating skull from bottom of screen.
The Bokobins aren't as serious when fighting Link in Skyward sword. If you avoid their attacks they can often be laughing at him. Full disclosure, I don't own any modern consoles and my computer is seriously outdated, so I haven't played a "current" game in MANY years. That said... I agree with you in theory. I hate the idea of any company having the power to remotely revoke my ability to play a game I've paid for. However, today's physical copies aren't always what the savior that people make them out to be. I mean, games today often ship with game-breaking bugs in them. Sometimes, the bugs are so severe that they can keep you from completing the game. And then there are the cases were the entire game isn't on the disc, and the console needs to go online to download the rest of it. Then there's DLC. In today's gaming world, DLC can make up a large part of a game, adding new game modes and even whole campaigns. Unless the company puts out a "complete" edition, DLC can only be obtained by downloading it. True, DLC is an extra, but have you really played the whole game, if you haven't played the 3-6 DLC campaigns? I'm not opposed to digital content in theory, but I am opposed to the way it's done in reality. Any digital content you download, be it a whole game, DLC or even just patches, will be forever locked to the specific console that downloaded it. Any "backups" you may be able to make, will only work on THAT console. If it dies and you replace it, your "backups" are worthless. To be honest, I hate what gaming today has become. I want to play Burnout: Paradise, but I don't want to miss out on the Big Surf Island DLC. That isn't available on disc for the PS3 (I do have one of those, even though I never use it), and isn't available at all for Windows. How about Burnout: Paradise Remastered? Well, I don't own any of the consoles it's available for, and even when I get one, it will have a ton of bugs in it, like all big games today. The Windows version isn't even available as a physical release, and so far, nobody has cracked it. If I could actually buy a digital copy that I could truly backup and use forever, without it being tied to a specific system, I would. Well, if I had a system that could run it...
It depends on where you live but for me, not only is there barely any variety on offer in my 'local' game store (big name releases like Assassin's Creed, GTA, Call of Duty, sports, ect is all they really have) but they also cost 80€ (86,50$) While I'm at it, physical games on PS4 are a waste of space & plastic. Not only do the discs act as keys to access the game (as the game is still saved to your internal storage) but if you are connected online, Sony can still just deny you access to play it. As they did when the CMOS battery was removed before they patched that. As for digital, not ever country has good Internet. I don't have anything else to add that you didn't mention. Basically, modern gaming stinks. Yeah, sure. There are still some good games being made but so many of them now are dragged down by scummy business practices & ESG & whatnot so I just stick to PS3 & before. Things have gotten so bad, I've even begun reading novels.
Great video! People are so happy to give up ownership for a tiny bit of convenience. I myself switched from mostly digital Xbox library to a physical games on PlayStation and it feels great. I know those games are mine, I can do anything I want with them and they will always work. Doesn't matter if I have the internet or not.
With consideration of all the downsides of digital, it's just too convenient to resist, at least for me. But I wonder, digital can be more expensive than physical. Are servers and api's really more expensive to maintain, than to produce plastic and ship it to resellers?
I think it depends largely on the player and their preferences But I would personally bet most console players would prefer to have physical copies of their games. And buying games digitally on console is kinda of lose situation. If I buy a game on Steam, I can play that game on any computer so long as I log into steam and download it. If I buy it on GOG, I don't have to log in at all after the inital download. I can download the game once and play it off a usb or sd card if I wanted to. But I just won't have any updates if it does get any later on. I feel like for Console gamers they've just been getting fucked over by companies. Don't believe the bull shit, you're getting a raw deal and less rights as a customer just so they can keep making more money for less effort on their part.
Although I prefer to collect physical discs, the uncertainty of availability later down the line is never a given so I mainly collecting digital as I have consoles like the Steam Deck that I can play on-the-go. Still though, I'll collect games as I go for older consoles as it's fun to regroup with my childhood games and consoles.
This seems REALLY one-sided. Look, once your collection gets into the THOUSANDS, the inconvenience of physical becomes overwhleming. I've stared at the wall of games for hours unable to figure out what to play. I've found I owned two or three copies of a game because I forgot I owned it and couldn't find it. When I move homes it's a huge pain to move all those games without damaging them. Disc rot and scratched discs is a serious serious problem. I've had lasers die on multiple consoles. One console died immediatley when it tried to read a scratched disc. I've had many many many games "go bad" and the disc simply stopped working. I've actually sold every game for a console before because there was no digital version and I didn't want to buy a brand new console to play all the discs. I have a chronic illness and it can be very painful to get up and move around. Digital games are a godsend because I don't have to get up and put in another disc every 5 to 10 minutes when I just want to play a bit of one game and then move to the next. I've spent I don't know how many hundreds of hours getting up and sitting back down and re-reclining my recliner because of discs. Then there's maintaining your cases and discs so they aren't all in cracked ugly cases covered in stickers. Yes, i do have place for custom box art, case maintenance, and storing and displaying games, but it's a minor part of my hobby, not the centerpiece. I do not have room in my apartment for 2000+ games. Most of them are digital and I sell the physical to go digital whenever possible. In fact, most of the games on my PS3 are digital because SONY sold digital copies in Japan for $6 each of PS2 and PS1 games that cost $300+ for physical copies. I have digital copies of Einhander, Harmful Park, Silent Bomber, Thunder Force V, Radiant Silvergun, Guardian Heroes, Gradius V, Panzer Bandit, Gunner's Heaven, Intelligent Qube, many many others. Digital is awesome when it's priced fairly and you have a way to access. The problem with digital is we need new laws guaranteeing "ownership" of perpetual digital licenses and a method to access digital content which has been paid for.
I'm about 99% digital these days. Because physical is just too much trouble to manage. I only buy physical if there is no digital purhcase possible. So retro games.
This is why I say physical is "obsolete". It's technically outdated and it's kept around because laws just haven't kept pace with technology. These is no COMPLETE SNES/NES/Genesis online store where you can buy every game for the console ever for a few bucks and are allowed to load it onto an everdrive. There are no official everdrives sold by Nintendo and SEGA. SONY has no digital store to allow you to play EVERY PS1/PS2 game ever made and if they did there is no backwards compatibility, same for Nintendo. The laws gotta change. The tech has been there for a long time.
I have literally bought a game physically before only to later buy it digitally (on sale, of course) just for the convenience of having easier access to it.

I love physical games way more than digital but for the past 4 years I’ve been buying exclusively digital because it allows me to share my game with a friend that doesn’t own it so 2 people get to play a game for the price of 1. If they ever add a system were we can game share with physical I will never purchase anything physical again

Digital, though, not the way you explain digital games here. Digital as in DRM-FREE, I own the exe. All offline, will spin up anytime, anywhere, on any system I own, without the need for internet or an account to any client. Coupled with an on & off site backup, Ive enough games to enjoy for many years to come without the pesky 'backlog syndrome' taking over and just enjoying them. Cyberpunk and its dlc has been amazing, along with Witcher 3, Baldurs Gate 3, Kingdom Come Deliverance, No Mans Sky, and plenty others. Not to mention mods, no company can take my games or the mods ive downloaded away. If you are truely ignorant of this offline digital gaming, please investigate.
More secrets and details that weren’t mentioned: The big stalchildren in hyrule will get progressively larger the more and more times he spawns (until you leave or it turns day). The only thing that changes is the size though, and it only happens for that one enemy. You’ve probably heard of the detail where link will sneeze if you go idle in the ice cave for long enough, but what you might not know is that this also happens in graves. This means you can also see this animation as child link. Some of the rocks outside the spirit temple are actually just the musician brother’s graves. They are inside the ground and at an angle that you can’t tell normally though. If you refuse to give the mask to the guard outside of death mountain, he will shut the gate and refuse to let you inside unless you give it to him. The islamic chants in the fire temple aren’t actually islamic chants (I don’t think). It’s just from a sound font cd. I believe side hoping is the real fastest way to travel, but I could just be wrong about that or it could only be faster when going up or down hills or something like that. The R-wing was actually also used to test volvagia’s ai. On the topic of scrapped items, there are also shadow, spirit, and wind arrows, as well as magic attacks for some of the medallions. Apparently the bottle actually has a wider and longer hitbox than any other item for reflecting ganon’s attacks. The crouch stab doesn’t have a damage value, but instead takes the damage of the last attack. This means you can switch to the biggoron sword, jump attack, switch back to the master sword, and crouch stab. Each stab should do as much damage as the jump attack did.
In the 2nd last boss fight you can get Ganondorfs heath low enough but not take down he will charge his aerial attack like link does his sword something I did as a kid miss that game
At around 5:50 if you kill them fast enough you will usually just barely have time for one to spawn that drops 2 red rupees. Also if you have something like Gamecube and action replay you can pause the time in the field. And the Stalfos will keep getting bigger as you kill them.
