Lee a great general? Who did he beat? Burnside, Hooker, Mcclellan, Pope? All were bad generals. He was bested the moment he met a good general in Meade, and he never won a great offensive battle without stonewall jackson. I implore you to study Napoleon at Austerlitz. The battle is identical in every way to Gettysburg down to the terrain and number of men engaged on each side. Study what Napoleon did, and you will find your great general.

We love coming here, especially on the night where there are Old Time Bands. We also like the Bluegrass music 🎵🎶 because we clog and two step dancing. Thank you all at Lays Hardware. We drive over an hr to come to Lay's. The folks that run Lay's as well as the folks that come to listen to the band and those of us that come to do our heritage dancing, clogging, flat footing buck dancing and two stepping. We love a good night with the Old Time Bands with the fiddle in the band. Come on down and enjoy a good clean atmosphere.

The narrator, professor James I. Robertson Jr. has a pleasant southern drawl and replaces his Rs with Ws, not unlike the way a child does. This is not a complaint but rather the opposite.

Laban would ask why no punctuation was used to clarify the title of this video. He might have suggested: The "Is That a Banana, Mama?" Show.

This program must be quite old. James I Robertson died on 11/2/2019. His distinct southern accent is missed.

To state the obvious, Lee tried to invade the North twice, and as soon as he no longer had the help of the citizens to feed him local knowledge of the land, and send him intelligence about the Union army, he got his ass handed to him. As long as he remained in Virginia, where every schoolboy was a scout and every farmer a spy for him, he did okay. Lee might be the most over-rated military man in American history.

It’s easy to run down the commanders of the Army of the Potomac but they had the difficult task of taking the fight to the enemy. Lee was fighting a defensive war but every time he had to take the fight to the north he was quickly dispatched. The southern armies never really threatened Washington anywhere like the GAR did multiple times before final victory.

Sadly, James Robertson has passed away, and Jack Davis is in his late 70s. When the great historians of our nation, and my generation, are gone, those who stand in such narrow-minded judgment and spew vitriolic hate toward The South will have their day. From the direction The United States is headed, I predict they will understand, too late, the true meaning and need of "states' rights and fighting for survival of home and family. The two things elemental to the human condition is that 1) history ALWAYS repeats itself, and 2) Human beings NEVER learn from history.

They don't teach history anymore. For one thing, people might find it offensive--which is laughable, why be offended at something you can't even change? More importantly, they don't teach history because it's easier to keep people down when they don't know who they are. This is a sad turn of events and it will only get worse before it gets better.

The story I have heard on this varies. One was that he was afraid of getting the nickname HUG. The other was that it was some clerical error made during his admission to West Point that Grant decided was better to leave alone to get in. In any case "Unconditional Surrender" Grant was a hell of a nickname.
