Just in the process of doing my Pontoon boat. 1989 vintage. I have owned it for 10 years. It was sitting for approx 15 years before that. Uncleaned. I am using No name Toilet bowl with 6 x 4 brillow pad (s) stapled to standing block. Dampened thepontoons and applied cleaner along top of pontoon. Start scrubbing and it required way less work than I thought. Amazing. I also tried WD-40 and it worked amazingly well but likely more expensive. Nothing ventured nothing gained!
Owned our 19ERD for four years here on CT near Long Island Sound. Mild winters so in the fall we remove anode rod to flush sediment from H20 Heater, , drain H2O holding tank via modified T-valves and flush all lines via city water port. Next we use an adapter and air compressor hooked to anode rod threaded port to blow water through all open lines. Once thoroughly dry we add maybe a cup of anti-freeze to all J-Traps and same to black tank and "closed" toilet" seal. You DO NOT want anti-frees to ever sit in your H2O heater so make sure that valve in "closed" vs "in-line" or open position and loosely reassemble anode rod so it's rodent proof" That's it for winterizing.... In the spring flush all lines as indicated in the video. We typically fill the fresh water holding tank and add a cup of bleach and let it sit overnight then flush all lines and empty again before filling for our next travel adventure. One more thought, throw away the screws on the access door to the water pump under the bathroom sink-- a bit of velcro will hold the light plywood panel in place even on bumpy roads, We traveled 14K to Alaska last season and never had a problem with any of the above. Do change your anode rod when it deteriorates and also use some type of inline water filter when filling your water tank and even with city water at campgrounds. Also we have always used a water pressure regulator at campground faucets to avoid risk of high pressure bursting the pex lines in the camper. Cheers and happy trails.
Thank you for the advice, I'm taking my Vintage Cruiser out for my first full hookup and need to de-winterize it first, your video was very helpful. Happy Camping!!!
I use Blackhawk Performances Eco Boat Hull Cleaner on my boat. It is made from sugar, therefore it is eco safe and most importantly will not eat a hole through my trailer. I simply spray it on let sit for 10 minutes then spray it off with the power washer. I only need one coat because I take my boat out of the water regularly. I tried it on a buddy’s boat that sat in the lake for 2 years, it took 2.5 coats, but still there was minimal scrubbing!
If they do this at night, is there some danger? We just moved where we have donkey neighbors & I’ve never heard them being loud at night, til just now.
when I opened my outside water heater access panel, my water heater element and 3 plastic screw caps were sitting in the bottom. So I now know what to do with the element rod, but where do these caps go? and I assume I should replace them first, then follow your steps? I'm a first time owner and my dealership winterized this, and unscrewed these 3 caps and put the in here, so it would be good if you mentioned you may run across these, and where to check to see where they should go, and assume replace them before proceeding? I have a 2021 Vintage 19TWD.
I'm a new boat owner last year. I just saw your video on cleaning the scum off of the bottom of the boat. My new boat has a lot of it. Thank you for sharing this very welcomed news. I am going to use the Lysol Toilet Bowl cleaner to clean the hull of my boat before putting it in the water this year. Thanks again.
Slime is a combination of LYE, TSP, Oxalic Acid. Varying types of ACIDS that interact with varying types of particulates. Gloves and EYE PROTECTION should be worn. It dissolves "stuff", even your skin and membranes of your eyes...pretty much dissolve a body with it. Lysol is quaternary ammonia & chlorides. Mainly used as disinfectant and some products whitener (basically a bleach) and organic life inhibitor. These tend to "hide" build-up, loosen, dissolve certain organics. A friction test of the hull would have been telling.
Bar Keepers Friend is hands down the best hull cleaner you can use. Mix with a little water and you don't even need to scrub, just wet the hull, and apply it with a rag and let it sit for a few minutes. For tougher stains some very light scrubbing may be required. Best part is that it is inexpensive.
@@Soundsoftheworld384 You'll be very pleasantly surprised. I was skeptical but it is the best hull cleaner I've ever used. There was another youtuber who did a video on it awhile back and that's how I discovered it.
Thank you for this, have been using Quick. How do you record the video playing on GE with OBS? Is there a button that will record the screen> Can I use Movavi? that is the program I use to edit video. Also this is 4 years later, have you done numbers 2 and 3?
I’ve tried all the home concoctions and toilet bowl cleaner and other products that could damage the gel coat and or fiberglass . My boat sits in the Lahr for about 6 months . I went to the dealer I bought my boat from after nothing worked . They suggested on / off hull and bottom cleaver . Worked Ten times better and easier then anything else . You won’t be sorry .
I’ve used toilet bowl cleaner for about 5 years now and haven’t seen any effects on the fiberglass. It’s an old boat to begin with so I’m not too worried about it.
Thank you so much for providing this information! We were preparing our boat for sale and were appalled when we saw the staining on the hull. Other options didn't touch the stains. We ran right out -- literally -- and tried the Lysol (which we had on hand) and could not BELIEVE our eyes! So refreshing to see something that works as 'advertised' and so effortlessly. We will follow the recommendation to seal the hull afterward to prevent deeper staining in the future. Thank you again for taking the time to post this -- a real lifesaver!
Glad it worked! I’ve been doing this for about 5 years now and it gets a little bit harder each year to get the stains off but it still works. Haven’t noticed any damage to the fiberglass that I can see. Maybe on a microscopic level it’s doing something but nothing that is visible to the eye.
How did you apply lysol to the entire bottom of the boat? Seems tedious. I use the instant hull cleaner on a paint roller with an extension pole. Curious as to how you did it.
I use a long pole with a brush on the end. I put it on the brush then get down under and brush it on. It is tedious but short of lifting the boat off the trailer, it’s the only way I could do it.
I know you don't own this trailer anymore but..on the flush, when you are hooking up the city a water, doesent that leave the fresh water tank kind of bleechy? I know it was drained but is it ok to leave it unflushed so to speak.
In fact, I have 3 chicks wondering around in my parking lot. They were eggs yesterday, and they started to run from day 1. Apparently, they are almost ready to survive upon hatching.
I recently bought a Air Fryer and I thought this product was great and easy. But I feel 190 calories is too little a meal for most active people and $5 is a bit expensive for veggies and little peices of Shrimp. I ended up cooking Frozen Wild Salmon from Costco for 5 minutes in the Air Fryer and dumping this into it and cooking for another 10 minutes. I think I will probably end up getting a stir fry veggie mix at costco and getting my protein separately.
