I work in the coffee machine industry (parts and repairs) interesting seeing a robot do it! It’s latte art is better than mine, however I drink my coffee black so I don’t practice as I probably should haha.
great idea! The actuation mechanism looks much better! I liked the movement and sci-finees of the old one better though. I think it would help the mechanism if the yellow bushings where in a fixed connection. It could also be beneficial to swap the black and Center bushing with one of the small black gears and have a gear rack piece for the movement. It would be less jerky at the beginning and maybe even have a nice place to integrate that banana piece!
I know. It's tragic. It's actually a cool piece, the curve on each side allowing for a cool conversion of lateral reciprocal motion into reciprocal twists. I've seen machines just like that, with a curved lever being pushed and pulled by a slide. But it doesn't work with the force I put on it for this build. Gonna stick the banana in my back pocket for later use 😁
I find a thrill in making do with what I have. Takes a lot of compromise, though. But it helps that I have a lot of parts, and nothing stays together for long, especially sets.
The base looks good as an updated version of the Polaris Space Lab but the added vehicle depot, transfer vehicle and launch base makes this a great playset. Any plans for custom crater baseplates to mimic original set?
No plans, but not a bad idea. I do need to up my game in building landscapes/backgrounds/environments for my Mocs. I mostly build vehicles, but a good backdrop really makes a moc pop on display. For this one in particular, I've moved on to new projects. I rarely go back to revisit. Life is too short 😆
Grazie! The project started with inspiration from getting a bunch of light blue quarter domes, which led to the Luminous Imperator. When that was done I didn't want to stop, wanted a pirate ship, so carried on with what I could make with what windows I had left. I only had one of the blue doors, picked it up randomly, never knew what I would do with just 1... until this ship took shape.
Thank you! It was a mighty challenge, lots of compromises along the way (in my head there was originally another deck and internal shuttle bays and a mech or two. All had to be cut for reality), but I'm pleased with the result. No, I don't have a digital build. All built in the real. One day I'll take it apart, and it'll be nothing but memory and a few photos.
This is the first video i watched of you... and no joke, you are already in my top 5 favourite lego content creators! Keep up the great work. The hover spaceship craft transformation was super cool!
Thanks so much! I love knowing that I'm helping inspire. I'm not the first to re-imagine this old set, but it was a joy to work on, and to work out some new functions. Probably high time I work on some new vids. Got new builds asking for attention...
05:09 totally agree man! Having gotten back into LEGO as an AFOL, I initially only built sets. Then I moved on to building other people’s alternative builds of sets…then I started modifying sets myself and adapting them to what I wanted them to be! Good example is the Batman Mask set. I loved the idea but not the execution. So I modified it. First by adding a mouth so it’s not just a mask. Then I completely modded the set, turning it from a generic looking Batman with a mouth- a sort of disembodied head- to making it into a specific Batman look. I went for the Batman Beyond version, the Terry Mcginnis batman. So the added mouth became black and modified to look more like the Beyond Batman. As well as extending and slimming down the ears! I’m now onto building original MOCs!
Glad you like it. I don't have a parts list, but someone compiled one somewhere in the comments. Or just take the inspiration and run with your own ideas and your own parts. Happy building!
lego is a building system not a display system. these days every body rants at lego products. adults complain about stickers and other stuff. first of all we are talking about toys for kids. kids like to craft new stuff they want a special piece and they can't use it because it's a printed tile. of courese i don't like stickers but how about warhammer? you need to paint them. how about scale modelling? you need to paint them and put some waterslide decal paper stickers to it. so tell me what is the problem?
This is what Lego is really all about. Some people get so carried away thinking they’re just display models you have to put together, but they’re so much more. You can customize them and build upon them and even take them apart completely and build something new. No other model kits allow you to really do that so easily. When you’re willing to experiment and be creative there really are infinite possibilities with Lego, and not many other toys can really achieve that.
Spot on. I encourage everyone to knock their collectibles off the shelf (the individual pieces will survive because Lego is quality [except brittle gold, brown and dark red. Gotta be careful with those]) and invent new things.
I loved the set, but didn’t like that there was nowhere to store the included drone, so I modded to allow connection to the top/rear. Also will definitely be adding landing gear.
Holy Crap, you sir are underrated You really are a good presenter and creator but also to spark some ideas for others to do, keep it up man, you'll go far.
