Sam Houston said to Andy Jackson one day on the Creek Campaign If we drive 'em out of middle Florida, they'll just come back again Ole Hickory smiled up at his Indian scout, his eyes were a twinklin' clear Said, "Talk a little louder, Sam, your words fade out when they get down to here" He stood six-foot-six, six-foot-six He knew all the Creek and the Cherokee tricks But he wouldn't settle and he couldn't mix Sam Houston was a mighty big man Yeah, Sam was a mighty big man Well, he read his Bible and he feared his god But he heard the Frontier call They made him Governor of Tennessee but he couldn't stand four walls He packed his gear and he saddled his horse I said, "Sam, where ya goin' to?" "Well, I'm goin' out to Texas, 'cause in Tennessee I've done all, about all I can do!" Well, he stood six-foot-six, six-foot-six He knew all the Creek and the Cherokee tricks But he wouldn't settle and he couldn't mix Sam Houston was a mighty big man Yeah, Sam was a mighty big man Well, at Goliad and the Alamo Santa Anna gained a victory
Sam said "Santa, I'll give you a Christmas gift If you just keep a-follerin' me!" Well, he follered 'im across the San Jacinto River Deaf Smith cut the bridge in two Sam said, "Santa Anna, here's a treaty you better keep Or I'll annex ole Mexico, too!" Well, he stood six-foot-six, six-foot-six He knew all the Creek and the Cherokee tricks But he wouldn't settle and he couldn't mix Sam Houston was a mighty big man Yeah, Sam was a mighty big man

I bought this in 1964 for the other side which I think was the A side…”A Little South Of Memphis,” but ended up playing this more and regularly during the last sixty years.

Don’t believe it! This actual LP was the musical track to our Christmases in the 60s and 70s in Edinburgh. Guess my dad bought it for a laugh and grandmother took it in good part ( she was always doing the dishes dear woman). Pretty sure it’s still in a pile of old records in the family home, only mam there now😢

I was a kid and popped a balloon with a dart at the county fair and won this 45. I didn’t really “get it” then and wondered what an ocarina was. 😁

Hmmm, anybody else perceive the melodic sameness here of the verses with that of Elvis's recording of "Don't Leave Me Now" , featured in the 1957 movie, Jailhouse Rock ? Jimmy's great song above was presumably written before the Elvis replication . Probably mere coincidence , but it does arouse curiosity .

Can someone write down the lyrics? I tried but there are things I might have got wrong and others I can't quite understand Am I Still Your Baby by Goldie Hill was i ? or am i still your baby i loved you so, got to know, i don’t mean maybe my heart cries out for a love it ain’t seen lately was I ??? or am i still your baby there’s no regret, right when we met you said 'for surely' there'd never be no other one, you love me truly though not so long when you are gone…??? still within my heart my love is for you only was i ?? or am i still your baby my heart cries out for a love it ain’t seen lately was i ? or am i still your baby? instrumental - so say you’re mine or say you ain’t, and make it clearly don’t lie to me oh can’t you see i love you dearly could it be a new love you are seeking and if it is, this trusting heart of mine you’re breaking was i ? or am i still your your baby? i loved you so, got to know, i don’t mean maybe my heart cries out for a love it ain’t seen lately was i ? or am i still your baby
