I'm Taylor, a 28-year-old budgeter using Monarch Money and my own financial planning templates to help me on my journey to financial independence.
MY PHILOSOPHY~ Financial self-care is just as important as any other self-care in life. I believe in building a healthy relationship with money that is centered around intention over circumstance.
Hi Angela! Option A: If both of you spend through your own accounts, go to Reports > Filters > Accounts, and select the bank account you want to review the spending for. Then click “Apply” and view the “Spending” tab to see the category breakdown. Option B: If both of you spend through a joint account, the best way to see spending by person is by using Tags. You can create them by going to Settings > Tags > New tag. After you’ve created a tag each for you and your husband, you can tag each transaction by person when you check-in with Monarch. Then go to Reports > Filters > Tags and select the tag (aka person). Then click “Apply” and view the “Spending” tab to see the category breakdown.
I love this advice on night owl routine being put into a more realistic light instead of just being told not to be so lazy, getting called out for it, etc. Im a natural-born night owl myself & tend to be more productive and happy around 1-5am and love my 7-8am morning naps a lot. I've been trying to set a goal for my schedule fix so i can have enough time to watch a movie at 3:30am, take care of my kid, read/study, etc. So that way i can have a better routine and all too to train myself to have better focus. Im more of rather a grouch when i wake up. Thank you!
Enjoyed this video! I love your outro!!! Very audibly and aesthetically pleasing. Thanks for updating us on what you've been up to. I'm so excited for you to be living alone. As a fellow introvert, the peace living alone brings is priceless. Can't wait to see what this series brings.
Big congratulations on using roughly $6K to eliminate $15K of debt 🎉. Growing the net worth is an engine that really picks up speed if you stick with the grind. I really look forward to your food planning episode. I think that is where a lot of us let money slip through our fingers.
Thank you! I miss my savings, but like you said, I’m picking up momentum now and will get that back in no time. I’m excited to share my meal planning tips soon! 🌮
Great simple video. Me and my wife are using this app and its very intuitive and easy to use but you just made it much more comprehensible. Thank you sis!
I’ve been working on building a meal planner and got so stuck on how to push the ingredients to a shopping list, this solved it! Thank you so much, great video, lots of awesome ideas here
Glad to have you in the community! Just uploaded another Monarch tutorial, so be sure to check it out and let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see.
Sometimes our bodies take longer to adjust to new sleeping schedules, but certain routines can help (ie turning off lights at night and turning on lights in the morning). It took me a few months to adjust to my 9-5, although my situation included family noise as well 😅
What messes me up with my budget is if I pay my rent early (before the 1st) it puts it on the past months budget and messes everything up. Same if I get paid on the 31st. Anyway to fix that?
You can change the date on those transactions to fit your needs! So if you pay your rent early or get paid on the 31st, make the dates of the transaction the 1st of the next month and that spending/income will only show in the next month’s budget. Hope this helps!
@pinnotpaper I didn't know you were able to change the actual transaction date. I will have to look into that. For some reason my "actual" stuff on my budgeting seems off and I think it has to do with dates. I know you can write in your own budget but I like the automation of it all with the real transactions
@@pinnotpaper thank you so much! One last question! Should I be marking when money leaves my account to my savings or investing account as an expense in the budget or just a transfer?
@Vub. Any transaction between accounts in your household (checking, savings, investments, etc.) should be marked as “transfers” because the money is still an asset, it’s just located in a different account. When you count it as an “expense”, Monarch will think it’s a decrease in your assets and will lower your net worth (because it thinks you don’t have the money anymore).
this deserves more views ,IMO. I used your system as reference as I update my Weekly Meal Planner; the only thing I didn't add to mine was the checkbox for your hubby coz I don't have one. lol
@@pinnotpaper Ok I've been testing it for a few weeks, definitely love it, best meal planning notion template I've tried so far, and I've paid for others! I appreciate all the brain power that went into it.
This is so wonderful - thank you so much! 🫂 My whole life I've been fighting time 🙈. Now I'm older, I have more freedom - but I still feel guilty not being able to jump out of bed at 5:30 in the morning - and feeling great at 4 in the night. I wish ppl would take this more seriously and not be so judgemental. Thx so much again 🫂🌅🙏

I utilize Taylor’s services for Monarch Money coaching outside of her videos. Well worth the money if your like me and don’t really have the time or inclination to dig into the programs functionality. The tool is powerful if you know how to use it. I would recommend the coaching.
I’m not with acorns but I assume that there might be a brokerage cost to selling (all) ‘shares’ in acorn. I hope not 🤞🏻 Regardless, closing that account is a sound move; $1 cost per month is exorbitant especially on a proportionally basis (for you).
Thank you so much for this video. I am new to Monarch Money, like 3 days new. I am now going to reorganize my categories to map to Needs, Wants and Wealth. So THANKS for the inspo! Also, I will be watching all of your videos now. LOL.
Hey RU-vid recommended one of your videos, and I must say, you post awesome stuff. I love it, and I want to see you on top! BTW I was wondering if you need a video editor. I'm Mohan, a professional video editor with 3.5 years of experience in creating engaging and high-quality videos for RU-vid. If not, please reply with "NO" and I will remove you from my follow-up list. Keep creating amazing content! Best regards, Mohan
Thanks for this. I was thinking about doing something similar with my Monarch budget but I wasn't sure if there was a better approach. You confirmed it for me.
You can always email me at taylor@pinnotpaper.com! But I just released a new video on rollovers in Monarch Money, so feel free to check that out as well and see if that helps 🤗
I can definitely send them over! I am working on redesigns so I took them off my shop, but send me an email at taylor@pinnotpaper.com and I'll email them to you.
Just switching over to Monarch from Mint this month. Your videos have been tremendously helpful and I also bought your Yearly Goals worksheet! Any tips on how to keep track of spending down your sinking funds? I have a sinking fund for tuition so obviously it goes up and down twice a year. I am thinking of just making two separate sinking funds ( first semester/second semester) and then closing the goal as I use up the funds for that time period. Any other suggestions?
I actually think you only need 1 sinking fund! So it would look something this: 1. You save for spring semester. 2. Once you reach your goal, you withdraw all the money from the sinking fund so it resets back to $0. 3. You save for fall semester. 4. Withdraw all the money from the sinking fund and it resets back to $0. 5. And the cycle repeats! This way you can reduce the amount of sinking funds you have to manage!
Credit Karma doesn't migrate all the data! My transactions got dumped on an Excel 'spreadsheet.', yes on Excel! NOT the Credit K webpage. Lost transactions, many functions, the ability to see categories grouped. etc. Won't let me go back to Mint. Need to prepare taxes and it all wen to the a black hole. You will die trying to by pass the robots that answer the phone "customer service" and auto email replies. Desperately looking for an alternative to start from scratch. Thanks for your video. I wish I had the money to sue Credit Karma. They are playing with people finances and state of mind!******* THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEO!
Great Video! Two questions. How do I change my color theme with the one you had in the video and do you offer video (FaceTime or Zoom) training? I don't mind paying you to help me set up my account
I edited the video colors to make the blue a little less harsh on my viewers, so unfortunately, we don’t have a custom color theme yet! 🙈 As for video training, please reach out to me at taylor@pinnotpaper.com for more info!
