I was born in Wabasha, and lived there from 1962-1969. I recognized some of the places that you drove by. At 0:40 we used to go swimming at this beach, 2:50 the bridge and Eagles on the River condos, former site of the Big Jo flour mill, 3:20 Old City Hall, 3:55 Main St., 4:45 National Eagle Center, 5:00 Lawrence Blvd., 7:55 City Library (I remember when it was new, the old one was upstairs at the city hall, I was a pretentious reader as a kid), 9:05 St. Felix Catholic Church, 10:30 Hiawatha Dr. (Old US Hwy. 61), 11:35 Wabasha County building, 11:50 Old school building, went to Kindergarten and 1st grade here, 12:20 cemetery, 12:35 Faith Lutheran Church (my family was one of its founding members, it started 50 years ago in a store front downtown, Pastor Lee and his family lived upstairs, I was Joseph in its first Christmas pageant).
Glad to hear that these videos bring back lots of memories for you. I was not around from 1962 - 1969 as I was in the service, so there was a lot of changes for me also when I retired from the Army and moved back to Wabasha in 1982. Keep checking back as I am sure there will be more videos in the future!
Jim Warren is a cancer to the Wabasha community. He is president of the "Good Ole Boys" club and if you aren't in his circle, then you are pretty useless. He does a terrible job as Chief of Police and always focuses on the wrong things. He needs to go, Wabasha would be much better off with a new Chief of Police who actually has a decent head on his shoulders.
Glad you liked the video. Now would be a good time to vacation here, lots of snow, so the skiing and snowmobiling is great. Roads are clear for the moment so you should have any problems driving. Check out my other videos from the area.
Great video. I have lived in Arizona since I was 8, but before that lived in Elba and Plainview for short periods. We love Lake City/Wabasha, but have never been there in winter. You don't want Southern Arizonans driving on roads like this. So far, we've had one day since Jan. 1 where I've had to wear a light jacket. Cold? We don't do it well.
