I'm Luis, a student at the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health in the Philippines pursuing my MD and MBA degree. I make RU-vid videos to help students perform better in school as well as inspire those who want to pursue a career in medicine.
My videos will focus on education, productivity, and tech with some day-in-life vlogs to show my life as a medical student. I'll give tips on how to ace your school exams and major standardized tests like the NMAT.
I hope you find these videos entertaining and helpful to you in any way.
Waste of time effort and money.
Based on studies kc they factor that the “burn out” phase of the students really affects their overall health and leads to early drop-out. I think ang mali lang sa system sa Med school ng Pinas ay kung ano ba tlga ang pre-med na dpat kuhain. Pero kc the Ph medical curriculum is patterned after the US curriculum kaya din maraming foreign students na nag aaral sa Pinas bec of that. Also not all students ay decided to pursue med agad. Others tend to realized it later in their life. Kaya nga mga accelerated program para naman sa mga decided na tlga. Kaso un nga lang, 3 schools lang nag-ooffer nito.
Hello, can ASMPH grads still take the USMLE given that the school is not yet accredited and the USMLE guidelines on who are eligible to take it changed? Will this also affect the opportunity to do electives abroad?
It has always been my dream to be a doctor but since I'm the breadwinner, I cannot afford to enrol in med school.. right now I am 30 and still wanting to pursue my dream.. since M
The only time I got to experience the traditional curriculum was studying for boards and comparing it to my time with OSI as a student, I personally did not find one harder than the other. I think it will come down to the student and how much they're willing to put in the work to fulfill the requirements regardless of which system their school does
Can you specialize in radiology if ever, while doing the return of service? For example you will work at a government hospital under DOH , can you become a resident Doctor at Radiology Department?
It's hard to say since these programs self-select for the best among applicants so their being smart can make up for any shortcomings one school may have compared to others. I would suggest looking at the factors outside the school's curriculum that best suit your needs (ex. scholarships, location, career plans after graduation, etc.)
I think if we will just based it on the acceptance rate. It would be Intarmed. Bec among the thousands of applicants only the top 50 (before it was 40) students got to be accepted. Esp among Girls. The competition to be accepted in Intarmed is extremely competitive. That is why they were termed as “cream of the crop”.
I'm a Fil Am nurse also in Northeast. If any students have interest in surgical residency, may be consider applying to RWJB New Brunswick, NJ. I've seen foreign graduates match there. It's a tertiary hospital Trauma, Cancer hospital with it's own medical school. Stateside Fil Am's are underrepresented in the medical ranks. The interviewee is on point, the commitment and intentions must be something Fil Am's need to face and be encouraged early on and supported. We should push it, our heritage comes from Jose Rizal MD. As for learning Tagalog I'm California born myself and I'm learning. I think practicing with Rosetta Stone, may be watching films with subtitles, and TFC might help bridge the gap. My accent is shaky, I sound like a white person trying to speak Tagalog. I believe a Filipino Business student adapting in Boston to English had an interesting approach. He learned to start thinking in English to improve his verbal response time at Harvard. The rigor of that place has got to be like UP Dilliman in RP. So, I would imagine doing this in Tagalog for med school in RP might help in the clinics. As for accent, I guess practice and coaching might polish it up. Lea Salonga was coached so well she sounded like a Fil Am local born last I heard her. Good luck brah.
Hi po, thank you for this very informative video. Can I ask din po if I decided to take a one year off after graduating from my undergrad degree before moving to med school and I want to get the scholarship, will I still be eligible? Your response will be much appreciated ❤
Yes since DLSU provides scholarships for its undergraduate programs such as the STAR scholarship. I suggest you check out the school's website to find the specific details ☺️
Hello!! I am taking Bs Psych in UPD as well! Does ASMPH require more units than the one included in UP’s curriculum? Also, if you don’t mind may I ask for your stats?
As far as I know, they've changed the requirements since the time I applied so best to check the ASMPH website to be sure. Stats (I think i mentioned these in a video): Cum laude, 99 nmat, 3 orgs with leadership positions
I hope more Filipino students go into medicine more than just nursing. PHils don't have enough doctors and have too many nurses. And also more Pinoy doctors in the US instead of just nurses.
My son really want to go in medicine but I cant afford it as a single parent. But Im proud hes taking nursing and tell me after he finish it he want to work and pursue medicine 😁
Hi. I would just like to clarify if one can do residency training as part of their return service? Additionally, is an incoming 1st year med student eligible for this scholarship, or one has to be a 2nd year medical student before one can apply? I'll appreciate the response. Thanks
I just recently passed the PNLE. And I always have this battle in my mind if I deserve to enter med school. I want to pursue medicine but I feel like I'm unworthy to even try entering medicine. I feel like nobody really believes in me and people will judge me for even trying. And one of my insecurities is not being able to speak in english fluently. I really don't know what to do :(
