I feel a little “safer” since I’m on MJ, but just heard that Barb had her MJ coverage yanked, so you never know, I guess. Also, since they are literally the same meds, supply is supply is supply, right? Once all the vial folks need bigger doses, there goes the pen supply. If compounds become more difficult, now those folks will need brand name/pens. I’ve vowed not to let myself get too anxious about it, tho. And, your level-headed reporting is always helpful in that respect. 😘

Christopher and Laraine, I'm assuming this svgs card: A, is for new prescriptions only, and B, the new svgs card is for NEW prescriptions I don't think they'd take back the svgs card that we're already using. I really think w.5 months left in the year, that this new svgs card applies to Sept - Dec (5mos) for new scripts.

They'll never release the bigger dose vials. They know people will just get 15mg doses and split them into 2, 3 or 6 doses. This is EL's cash cow. They'll never give up their revenues. They do it in other countries because it's not a crazy price overseas so less incentive for people to split doses.

As usual, great update. Really appreciate the information and your insight. Good, objective insight and observations! I just watched another channel's take and it seemed like he was a Eli Lilly salesperson. :-) You are spot on, this is self-serving for Lilly. Their market share is adversely impacted by the shortage and the ability of 503A pharmacies to provide compounded versions. This is an integrated strategy that relates to the (a) declaration by Lilly that Zepbound is no longer in shortage, and (b) the cease and desist letters sent out by counsel a few weeks ago. Here's my take - the vials will take the injector pen pressure off the higher doses - allowing those pieces of hardware to be shifted to dosages above 5 mg - hence helping the case that those are "commercially available." Then, because the 2.5 and 5 will be available in vials (presumably in higher quantities) and available directly form Lilly, the availability issue is further mitigated on those doses. All will be "commercially available" and then, poof, there goes the justification to compound. Now there's pricing - they needed to come in at a level that was close to compounded tirzepititide - it is around 2x higher, yes, but it is at a level that if they shut down compounding, it is more likely folks will go with Zepbound than shift to compounded semaglutide. (think protection of market share). It is an integrated legal and marketing strategy designed to dismantle compounding pharmacies as competitor and secure the new users via a more affordable on-ramp to Zepbound. Don't like the potential impact on those who use compounds but I get it. Lilly wants to realize more profit from Zepbound and this is a way to do it. This certainly isn't a charitable act to help users. Don't expect to see vials in higher doses because there is more risk of consumers going to higher dosages that could cause physical problems. The key to all of this is for Lilly is to be able to say that all dosage levels are commercially available (appearing on a shortage list is an FDA - created animal - they are setting in place legal arguments to fight with FDA and to set up claims against the compounding pharmacies). They obviously thought long and hard about this. Will be fascinating to see this play out over the rest of the year. Don't expect FDA to take a firm position before the election - yes, politics does play a role in this too. 🙂

Long term the compounders are just an annoyance. Lilly is plotting to own the 120 million obese people in the US and many more globally. They want the entire much larger pie. Before competitors can take share Lilly wants
@paulras01
@paulras01 4 часа назад
But they also raised the coupon price for those with insurance but it's not covered. It went from $550 to $650 and now you can only use it for 5 fills per year instead of 13. Bottom line, they're showing just how greedy they are. Rope in a bunch of new patients with lower cost starting dose vials and then you get screwed worse than before when you need higher doses. Essentially our annual cost doubles! This is pure greed disguised to look like they're being charitable. Money grab!

@@thedownsized that’s not 100% correct. When the drug becomes available compounding should stop by law. Now if you have some kind of allergy and need a different ingredient that’s a different story. A reputable provider wouldn’t say you have an allergy you didn’t have in the past. Would be odd to the FDA all your past patients have an allergy they didn’t have in the past. Also an overloaded of b vitamins are not good for you.

@@jenf836 CD: I suspect the language and the interpretation of the FDA's guidance would end up in court. I am certainly not a lawyer but it does appear compounders could continue to operate to some level under 503A. It appears there is a case for both the compounding side and the Patent holder side. So it sounds like a court battle to me! Conditions of Section 503A Under section 503A of the FD&C Act, a compounded drug product is exempt from sections 501(a)(2)(B), 502(f)(1), and 505 of the FD&C Act if it meets the conditions of section 503A of the FD&C Act. The new patients starting the vials need to seriously think about what they will do when they need to dose up beyond 5mg if they are self pay…and the coupon (only good for the insured) for the pens will now only be good for five months….so many of these people will start and then have to stop or switch to a compound if that’s still available I guess.

I mean they are paying attention which is great , but still haven’t been able to convince their shareholders that prices need to come down to everyday levels for the average person. Large cost for a few individuals and insurance companies who cover or lower cost for a larger pool of the market share. They are shooting themselves in the foot if they keep prices where they are. Most insurance companies do not cover and the average person cannot afford out of pocket costs. If they don’t do something they know it will be a lose lose situation. What good is your drug if no one buys?

While it’s a start for Eli Lilly I have my doubts. I am using a compound and I am almost at my goal. However, I feel it will be a lifelong medication in order for me to maintain my loss while using a lower maintenance dose. I feel them starting at the lower milligram vials is there way to get new customers “ hooked” so to speak knowing they will be lifelong customers. Plus with the lower doses they can attract way more people who have just started their journey. Thanks for your information always appreciated.

I partially like the direction of this move. I don’t however, like the wastefulness of single-dose vials. Also, all vial prices and dosages should be capped at the discount card price. The price increment between 2.5 and 5 is too large. All dosages should be available in a monthly vial and capped at the discount card price or better.
