Thanks for the comparison. Is the OR30 still the brighter amp if the presence and bright switch are off, or bright switch on second brightest setting? So, by adjusting the presence and bright switch of the OR30, the OR30 will be the darker sounding amp of the two? Thanks.
Thanks for the watching. In the middle position, this is the closest to a standard Orange amp gain sound, but the presence needs to be over halfway in my experience.
Really good demo. Well done. I'm kind of interested in the OR15, for studio/home use. The features are different, and power, but I'm starting to get the impression that the core tone is more similar than different. Would buy the Rockerverb, for the reverb and attenuator, but can't afford it. And have a Surfybear Classic and Captor 16 I can use for that anyway. The OR15 only has a 15w & 7w mode, though that's pretty useful anyway. At least it does have a send/return. Good volume for studio recording, and is probably loud enough for rehearsal room, with a good sized cab close by.
15 watts will be absolutely fine. If you’re hoping for pristine cleans though, it might not deliver that. That being said, I prefer clean tones with a little bit of hair. 👍 Thanks for watching. Studio use, 100%!
@@DannyBeardsley Yes, I'm in the same came. I have a Victory V40 & Vox AC30 for different shares of the high-headroom loud clean amp to slightly gritty thing. And a Marshall JTM for that clean with hair/fuzz. So more interested in the OR15 for drive tones, but it's nice it can do a fuller deeper clean without as much of a blown out bass response as the JTM, which you have to dial the bass back on, or it gets blown out.
did you know that capacitors have a preferred direction? If you use them in reverse you will have a higher noise floor, eating away some harmonics in the pickups. To test for the correct direction before you install, you can use a high gain amp, use the guitar cable and touch the lugs of the cap to the tip and the ground both ways. Listen for hum...where the hum is lower, that's the way you want it installed. So install it with that direction to follow the signal flow.
Thanks very much for watching. Oh my! That’s a difficult question. I think once I’ve used the OR30 in a live setting, I’ll be able to answer this question better. I have a feeling the amp will be immensely loud on stage, and the sound engineer will kick off 🤣 The great thing about the Rockerverb is the attenuator, it’s helped me out loads when sorting stage volume. I think I prefer the gain tone and feel of the OR30 though. Very satisfying playing experience 👍
Wow, I first saw this and I thought you were Steve Wilson sitting there playing Govan’s lead! I thought ‘I didn’t know Steven could play like that’s???
Thanks for watching. I think it varies, depending on the passage/line. For the most part, a firm grip with the pick and I try to let the pick and string work together. Sometimes this is a slight calibration process. What I mean by this is that sometimes the amount of gain on the amp affects how hard I pick. I prefer to pick lightly, but too much gain impacts that. I use Hawk Picks, when I run out of those, Dunlop Ultex Jazz iii. 👍
Hi, Excellent Playing, and Thanks so much for this comparison. I purchased a Fender USA Standard Tele recently where the previous owner had routed it for ‘The Mule’ humbucker, and had reversed it too. Watching this video, means I’m not going to change it. Also, in a much lower priced Tele, I changed its neck humbucker to ‘The Mule’ too - but, it sounded too flubby. I’m grateful to BK for discussing it (great advice), & so now fitted with BK 550K Pots, it sounds really great. I recommend BK for their Customer Service whom will help you with any installation issues - NO I do not work for them - just a very happy Customer.
Thanks for watching and sharing your story! I hope you have many years of enjoyment with your guitar. Another great mod is to swap out the capacitor in the neck position for a 015uF. Removes some of the low end 👍
Played a rockerverb 50 in the studio. With my fuzzes. Tried to find a sound I liked. Found one. Didn't make the slightest impression to me, I prefer my Laney all the way man
Is this amp as open as the MK ultra amp? Both seem epic for 30W of tube power! This does seem to compress a bit more! Awesome playing and thanks for the effort.
Plenty of headroom, but this is more ‘Plexi’ inspired I think. A Orange/Mashall hybrid maybe.. I prefer the OR30 because I generally play more overdriven guitar. Plus it has an FX loop unlike the MK Ultra. Thanks for watching 👍
It feels like this amp kicks you in the chest when turned up. Somehow through the YT compression you can still feel it. Is this amp as open and wild as it sounds?
First of all, thanks for watching. It absolutely slays! So much punch and very open. There’s no way I could have ran this amp at this setting with a speaker cabinet though. Very loud, but works well with pedals to be able to push the amp more. A wonderful amp. One of my favourites. 👍
Awesome demo! I hear so many of my mates say they don't like the TS808 because it seems to muffle the sound, but I find keeping that tone knob at around 1-3 o'clock really retains the top end clarity, while still adding in that mid-hump smoothness
Thanks, Alex. At first I wasn’t sure how to use the pedal. I was underwhelmed at first, but it really shines when pushing an already broken up tone. I’m glad I finally managed to try one out. I’m assuming you have a TS808?
I had some Mules in a PRS Singlecut. It’s by far the best neck PAF pickup I’ve ever heard. The bridge pickup is good too but some like a little more or less output or a different magnet.
Thanks for watching. I think the video would be 4 hours long if everything was showcased between them. I will be sure to bear it mind for any future comparison videos though. Thanks again. All the best 👍
I was about to get a RVIII and then the OR30 came out. There's just something more Orange about the OR30 than the RV. I don't know how to explain it; not only is the amp a bit more open sounding but the notes sit more forward of the fizzle than they do on the Rockerverb. It is much more pleasant to hear. I actually ended up getting the OR30 over the RVIII because of demos like this one.
I love the gain structure and compression of the OR30. It’s a lot more vintage in character and lots of fun to play through. Thanks for watching and have fun with your new amp 👍
Hey. Cool Vid. I've had this guitar for half a year now and I love it. Three issues though: 1. The guitar is poorly balanced. The neck falls towards the floor when not supported by the player's left hand. 2. The body edges are pretty sharp, so the inside of your forearm won't love you after a gig. The edges could be a bit more rounded. 3. The fret ends sprout from the edges of the fingerboard. The neck edges are nicely rolled, but the fret ends sprouting from the edges messes that up. I've had to smooth mine, because it wasn't pleasant. If this gets sorted, then the guitar would be the best out there.🔥🔥🔥
Yeah it’s a rock solid guitar. It’s generally very easy to play, although the neck is thinner than I’d usually go for. I tend to opt for chunky necks because of my shovel sized hands. It does flare up an old thumb injury tbh, so I have to be careful. It is true about the neck dive. I think it must be to do with the weight of the maple neck vs the thin and compact body shape. No issues with frets on the one in this video though. The build quality is extremely good. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks very much! The differences are relatively small, especially when closing your eyes. The more I experiment with gear, the more I realise it’s more about how we react as players to different equipment. It can often guide us to play differently or inspire us to find new ideas. Thanks for watching.
I had the OR30 for about two weeks, then I decided to return it. Not because I didn't like it, but because putting a little extra money to get the RV mk3's versatility looked like the logical solution, as it's my main amp now. I have an OR50 too, so I didn't feel too bad letting the OR30 go. The OR50 is my favourite amp ever, it just sounds like everything I've ever wanted to hear from an amp!
Oh, wow! Welcome to the Rockerverb Club! The RV50 Mk iii has been my main amp for the last 7 years. I do love the OR30 though, the presence and bright switch are so powerful. I’m just still developing the guitar volume control technique for achieving clean tones. It can be challenging performing songs that I didn’t accommodate for this method of tonal shift. Orange Amps are an integral part of my sound now though. Everything else doesn’t seem quite right to me. Each to their own, I guess. Thanks for watching!
Awesome shootout and playing, I actually preferred the OR30 a bit. I play an Orange Dual Terror live and was thinking of getting an OR15 to pair with it on the other side of the stage, I've heard they're incredibly loud for a 15 watt amp.
Thanks very much. Cheers for watching. The Dual Terror is awesome. The OR15 would be very loud still. Very misleading with wattage rating. I remember when I first got a tube amp, it had to be a 100 watts! Big mistake! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
